A few weeks ago, I ran out of toothpaste. I'm not sure how it happened, but when I went to grab a new box from my toothpaste stash, it turned up empty. (I'll blame it all on Mr. Bella.)
Whatever the case, I didn't have time to go out and buy a new tube right then and there, and I had already cut it open to squeeze out the last remnants the night before. I ended up making a homemade paste from basic ingredients in the kitchen. Find out what I used, along with some more ideas for cleaning and freshening sans paste, when you read more.
Do what I did: Blend two parts of baking soda with one part salt and sprinkle over a toothbrush that's been moistened with water. This mixture helps whiten teeth and freshen breath. The flavor takes some getting used to, but it's pretty effective and super easy.
Raid the fridge: Chewing on mint or parsley will help neutralize odors until you can make your way to the store to restock on the toothpaste. FitSugar has more foods that help freshen breath, like carrots and yogurt. Apples act as great natural teeth cleansers, too.
Hit up the pantry: Chew on anise, dill, sesame, or fennel seeds; cardamom pods; cloves; or cinnamon sticks, which all help clean and polish teeth.
Peroxide: In a jam, you can also tip your toothbrush in germ-fighting hydrogen peroxide and brush your teeth like "normal."
Scrape your tongue: Using a spoon, scrape your tongue to help remove bacteria. I do this trick even when I have a supply of toothpaste readily available. It works amazingly well to keep bad breath at bay.

Good tips, but I always stock up on extra when I see I'm running low
1My husband, roomie and I all have different toothpaste so hopefully we won't all run out on the same day.
2OMG, we have all been there Bella. I some times have a travel toothpaste in my bag that I use when this has happened.
3Luckily I've never had this happen.
4Funny, I also do this with my concealer and benzoyl-peroxide tubes. You can get about 3 more uses out of the product!!
I've never done this w/toothpaste, though.
5I ran out one morning, and didn't have any travel sizes with me... didn't know about the baking soda alternative, so drank my coffee, rushed to the office, and grabbed my desk stash of toothbrush & paste. I refused to talk to anyone in the building until I'd brushed my teeth!
6I am the kind of person who has a back-up for all my essential products. I just keep them in my linen closet.
7i love to stock up too, but ive def used the baking soda thing when i needed some extra whitening on my pearlies lol
8I open a new one! lol
9Baking soda and peroxide. I try to use this at least every two weeks anyway ... it's the next best thing to a dentist cleaning!
10Ibirk has it right on--straight baking soda and peroxide is like using all of the tooth-whitening stuff in toothpaste without the stuff that waters it down!
11you can also make a "paste" of baking soda with a spprinkle of mouth wash in your hand for a tab bit better flavour.
12Cut open the Tube.. there is tons left over!
13Never happen but I think that I will use month wash and run to the store as soon as I can!
14I'm sorry to tell you Bella, but parsley actually doesn't work. It's been rumoured for ages that it does keep away odor. However, I was watching that show on food network last night.. something about food labs where they test some stuff...
15they were doing a segment on things that are supposed to freshen ur breath.. parsley actually brought out the food worst. you could smell everythung and even differentaiate.. :S
