As the warmer months approach, perhaps you're thinking of heading to the salon for a bikini wax — or maybe even a Brazilian, if you dare. And if you're living in New Jersey, you can rest assured, knowing that a possible ban on Brazilian waxing has been lifted. Last week, officials in the Garden State threatened to prohibit the risqué service due to concern about hair removal safety around the oh-so-sensitive intimate areas, particularly after two women were sent to the hospital with infections following the bare-down-there treatment. In a letter to the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling, the state's director of consumer affairs, David Szuchman, noted that the procedure in fact can be safely carried out.
New Jersey officials agreed. So salon owners win, and the Brazilians will stay. What do you think about this hairy situation? As long as the proper safety precautions are taken, are you pro-Brazilian? Or do you think they're just too risky?

I am definitely pro-brazilian. I have been getting brazilian waxes for years and never had a problem.
The only way it could be dangerous is if you go to a shady place for a waxing, or the esthetician isn't trained properly, I work at a nice salon & spa and there have never been any issues.

2I don't have anything against a Brazillian, but there's NO WAY I would ever go to get one!!! I'm just too inhibited to let anyone do that!
3I am brazilian and have been living in US for the past 10 years. It was a surprise to me when I discover what you guys call a brazilian wax, as in Brazil that is not the common practice!
We sure do some radical bikini wax jobs, but it is more usual to leave a "landing strip" and not go for totally nude!
When people want something playful they can do shapes( heart, diamond or even apply some enhancements like fake diamons!)
I do my bikini waxing myself because where I live there are too few options and so far I did not find a place that match my standards but if done with the proper care there is no health risks involved in what americans call a brazilian wax!
4Well I just had a Brazilian this past weekend and now I am covered in bumps that seem to be infected, not to mention a bruise! I will NEVER get one again. It costs too much money to look so bad and be so painful.

6Oh no, Micha22! Sounds like you had an inexperienced esthetician. Try using some Tend Skin or a DIY aspirin mask to keep the ingrowns from coming. Some "chicken skin" might happen but you shouldn't have to deal with bruising or infection. I'll be sending you get-well thoughts!
7I've been getting Brazilians for years, too, and have only had one instance of bruising/excessive redness -- I had an inexperienced technician using wax that wasn't warm enough and was having to pull too hard to get the strips to lift the wax. OUCH!
I've since switched to a place here in Atlanta, which only uses hard wax (no muslin strips), which has minimized the pain/discomfort, and they only charge $35! Not a shady place, either - the entire staff is from Brazil, where they were trained (and where they source the wax), and it's a nice place right in Buckhead!

9I know that brailians can be risky....it is even more so when ppl are unaware of the precautions to take following one,research is necessary and also speak to the person who is doing the service,if u see something looking dirty SPEAK it is ur HEALTH AND MONEY.Shaving can be somewhat risky except u may be using tools that u know is clean.As a precaution even after shaving I rub with an ice cube to close my pores.
10I'm indifferent. I had them before. I probably wouldn't pay to have them again. I prefer simple bikini waxes now.
11I have nothing against brazillian waxes. But I probably wouldn't get one myself, my legs are really sensitive to wax so I don't want to find out how my privates would react.

13^ Actually to that end, let me share this: DO NOT use razors you've used on your armpits or legs in your bikini region.

of course it couldn't get banned thats a ridiculous thing to ban in the first place. please. thats like banning getting your nails done. with tools not cleaned properly, you can get an infection. or banning tanning beds. i dont like any of this stuff but banning something like this is just silly.
