It's a new season, so why not consider changing your hair color? Whether you head to a salon or pick out a box color to use at home, a new hue might be just the thing to lighten your mood. Robert James, a San Francisco-based colorist who's worked with stars such as Alyssa Milano, Carmen Electra, and Gwen Stefani, offers these tips for having beautiful and healthy hair for spring.
Don't overdo it.
Instead of all-over highlights, add a few well-positioned lighter pieces. "People are going for a more beachy look," James says. "Think of Sarah Jessica Parker. She's doing mostly brown with a few lighter pieces around her face and her ends."

Do put down the bottle.
"Don't shampoo every day," James advises. "But do condition as often as possible, because the sun depletes moisture."
Do keep your costs under control.
Partial highlights can still brighten your face while keeping your budget in check. "Only highlight around your hairline, or highlight only down the parting as opposed to having a full set," says James.
Don't think that dye is the only option.
"Glazes are good for in between services," James explains. "Shine treatments condition hair, and they're far less expensive."

My hair always turns a rusty auburn color no matter how i dye it.. i get gloss treatments every month to every other month because dying it is a hassle... i haven't dyed it since january, and i'm trying to let it be natural until august or so. I live in florida, so dying it dark in the spring/summer is impossible...
1Great advice!
2Good tips. These are things I always keep in mind.
3I can't not wash my hair everyday... my hair is fine and gets greasy overnight, ew!
4I need to go to the salon- I tried a new brand at the drugstore, and my roots took the color differently then my previously processed hair. So now I have two toned hair..
5I definitely have to wash my hair everyday. The only exception is if I get someone to do it for them - then I can, maybe, last a day without washing.
6I'm another girl who has to wash everyday--although I use a shampoo without sulfates, which doesn't suds as much and is a little gentler.
7I'm also someone who needs to wash her hair everyday. I have fine hair. If I go a day without washing, I always feel like OPEC is going to come knocking on my front door to claim my scalp as an oil reserve. It doesn't matter what shampoo I use, I still have end up with Oil Reserve Hair if I go without washing. I will keep the rest in mind though.
