Fashionista is reporting that beloved beauty brand Stila is declaring bankruptcy:
We hear that Stila has gone bankrupt. ... We hear employees were given little advance notice, and arrived to offices that were shut yesterday morning. Several attempts to contact Stila via e-mail and phone calls went unanswered.
The site also points out that Stila's e-commerce site is down for maintenance, with a note saying that some already-placed orders may be canceled. I'm taking this news with a grain of salt until the rumor is confirmed, especially because I don't want to imagine the loss of Kitten eye shadow. Let's hope that Stila isn't filing for bankruptcy — and if it does, that this won't be the end of this cute, clever makeup line.
Update: Stila reps say that the company is refinancing and not bankrupt. More details to come.

Oh - I hope it's not true!
1Stila has sucked ever since Jeanine Lobell left, and maybe even a little before that. Such a shame, because the packaging was soooo cute. I loved the compact with the Stila girl on the front.
2Nooooo! This is my favorite makeup brand, and they have such a strong cult following. I just don't see them going under.
3Wow. First Jane Cosmetics (or so I hear) and now Stila. Some of my favorite high and low end lines are suffering in these times. Big bummer!

11I didn't realize Jeanne Lobell had left Stila, but that explains why is isn't as good as it used to be. The eyeshadows just haven't been as finely milled or blendable.
12I loved stila for about 6 months - bought a bunch of palettes, brushes and product. But never repurchase. I love the packaging but the product doesn't hold up for me. Sad though - wouldn't want that to happen to anyone - showing up to a locked bldg. wow.

22I will cry...seriously. They are probably my favorite cosmetics line! I've been using their products for so long, and the quality is so nice...what a bummer.
23I went to fashionista.com and they updated the story...Stila finally just got back to us, and they say that they’re “not going bankrupt” but “refinancing”. We asked what that means, and they said it means that they’re “reassessing their funds”…
24That's good news. I have never used Stila, but I am weary of buying anything and getting attached to it only to have it yanked away shortly! hopefully we will get another report that they are doing better, thanks to the refinancing.
