This month, Lancôme is launching its biggest skin care product of the year. Génifique ($78) is a "youth activating concentrate" with ten years of research backing up its anti-aging claims. It promises to rouse genes, making them produce more proteins associated with young skin.
The whole "gene-awakening" thing sounded vague to me, which automatically made me a bit skeptical. (So many beauty products promise to transform skin into perfection, but — as you probably have experienced — that doesn't happen very often.) Lancôme gave me an advance sample of Génifique, and I have been using it for the past six weeks. To find out whether my lazy-ass genes are now up and at 'em, read more.
Lancôme insists that Génifique is not a serum, but that's a bit of a tomato-tomahto thing to me; the lightweight liquid comes out in a dropper and feels like most serums I've tried. (I'm just sayin'.) Using it is easy, which is great if you're busy/lazy like me. I spread two drops of Génifique on my face every morning and evening; it sinks into skin almost immediately, so then I follow with my normal moisturizer. There's no tingling or stinging or stickiness, which is nice.
About a week into my Génifique trial, I noticed that my skin tone was a little bit brighter. And then I plotzed because the little frown line in between my brows wasn't quite as deep as it had been. I kept an eye on that stinker for the following month, and while it hasn't disappeared completely, it's definitely not as noticeable as it used to be. I'm not a scientist, nor do I play one on TV, but whatever's in that bottle of Génifique has indeed had a positive effect on my skin. Color this skeptic pleasantly surprised.

Own it, and I"m not a serum girl nor do I need to turn back the clock I have great genes and no wrinkles to look forward too ( my aunts 70 and she has the skin of a 20 year old and my great aunt is 101 and looks 80 tops). Any-who the one thing about my skin is recently I have been peeling around my nose and my chin and this product stopped that in 2 days of use!
1Isn't it wonderful? I love it.
2Hmmm I'm still a skeptic. How does it do on the small fine lines close to the eye?
3Hmm. Interesting. But I already pile so much crap onto my face every day! I probably don't need to add yet another product.
4Now I'm really interested in this product... thanks Bella!
5I don't think counters are giving away take-home samples, but it's worth stopping by to check it out. I was surprised by how much it minimized the look of my frown line, especially because they're still smaller even when I don't have the serum on. Go figure.
Aimeeb, I don't really have too many fine lines around the eyes (don't hate me) so I can't speak to that. The skin is smooth, but when I smile, I still get the crinklies. I think that will always happen, and I'd rather have smile lines than not.
6Damn you Bella! Well I guess a few fine lines under my bottom lid isn't so bad considering that's my only issue area. I was thinking of my smile lines I get too, I mean I like them but then again I don't think having them there even when I'm not smiling is really up my alley.
Would it be okay to use very close to the eye I wonder...
7Hey bella, I have a Q! I won that coach planner giveaway from sugar networks, am I still able to win any of your giveaways?? Please please reply!
8O oops, I didn't press "post and subscribe"! If you could, reply to this comment
9Bella, you need Retin A Micro for your brown line. I use it on mine. And by my eyes too, Aimeeb.
10xemail heather — yes. If you have any other questions please feel free to use the "contact" form. KimBurnett, good idea, but Retin A Micro and I totally do not get along. I tried it years ago and it was a big ol' FAIL for me.
11I have been using the product, as well and I am so happy with the results. There is a definite change for the better in the look and feel of my skin. The product is not greasy, absorbs quickly and does not make my face shiny. The only thing that I do not like is that glass dropper. It is fragile and if its dropped, it is sure to break. The product is really worth trying.
12ITS A BIT PRICY FOR ME BUT WOULD LOVE TO FINALLY FIND A PRODUCT THAT HELPS THE FROWN LINE AND SQUINT LINES DIMINISH
13Interesting! I don't mind my smile lines, but I could do without the frown line (esp. since it reminds me of rather unhappy times!).
14I'm with you, Advah. I like my smile lines, but frown lines bum me out a bit.
15oh my god! that sounds great! thanks for sharing!
16I couldn't stand this stuff! It was nice at 1st, but then an hour later it felt like a greasy film on top of my skin that never really sunk in. It made me break out, too! Ughhhh I usually like Lancome creams, too (the whole Primordiale collection is amazing). I think it's specifically their gel consistency products that suck and react so badly with my skin type.
