I'm a doodler by nature, and a dabbler in whatever unique beauty product I can get my hands on. It seems like nail pens are all the rage in the nail polish industry as of late, so when I heard about Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen, I had to give it a try.
There are eight shades in total, and because I wanted to give myself some glitzy black nails à la Paris Hilton's black French manicure, I purchased the white shade. The fine-tip pen is easy to use, and the polish dried pretty quickly. You don't have to have an advanced degree in art to create great shapes, but it was harder for me to finagle with my opposite, less-dextrous hand. The pros? Because it's water-based, it's more environmentally friendly, and mistakes are easily fixed with a cotton swab and water.
The cons? The polish has a tendency to drag unless your nails are completely dry, and since it's water-based, it rubs off rather easily. I'd highly recommend applying a top coat if you're looking for a stay-put finish. While I don't see myself drawing shapes on my nails all that often and the results weren't totally perfect, all-in-all, these nail art pens are meant to be fun, and fun is what they are.

Does that mean if you do the dishes you'll get the marble effect? (I'm only partially joking)
1it's about time you did a post with photos
i missed them, as i miss bloopers and other sections that you don't do anymore
2Thanks Allytta! Feel free to send me a private message with anything else you'd like to see
3nice... i've been waiting for
4something like this for a long
time....
i'm good painting my nails but
the french manicure is always a
disaster, Thanks Bella!!!
The pens are a great idea, but after letting the dry for 2 hours and applying a top coat the nail art color will crack. Which is very annoying. Just wanted to be honest.
5blah anything from sally hansen sucks!
6Yeah, Pillowtalkk, I agree that the polish isn't the best quality, but this looks pretty neat. I'm going to try it.
7I like the idea - especially if it makes a french manicure easier!
8Do they smell bad, like normal nail polish? I'd guess no, but...
I think these'd be fun for use on the bus or whatever, and then I could slap on a topcoat when I got to an appropriately isolated place.
9I just bought the silver one. Rachelsmith when i used them i didn't smell anything. They're easy to use and its easy to fix mistakes.
10It says right on the package you need a top coat in order to seal it or it rubs off the first time you wash your hands. And you dont need to let it dry for 2 hours, I put on a top coat only about one minute later and it doesnt streak. It does look a little cracky but only if you put your fingers right up to your eyes, so the average view people will get it will look okay. I dont think they are worth $8 though, maybe if they were priced at $5.99 or something so then the sale prices would be 3 something.
11Do you know of anything likes this product but to use on hair to design a shape on say shaven heads etc.???
12how much does it cost
13these things look like those products that commercials and magazine ads make look really cool, easy and effective, but theres some big screw up there either hiding or just not mentioning. (good advertising i guess)
like have any of you tried that smoothaway thing? the hair remover? i thought it looked really cool on tv, so i bought it, and it SUCKED. I mean it was really easy and i have never had such smooth legs, but each leg uses up a whole scrub pad! and thats with 2-day-old hair!
and those bra hook things? you know, the flexible things you hook your bra straps on to make them a push-up/razor back. well let me tell you there basically just plastic shapes. there so unflexible and uncomfortable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ITHER OF THESE!!
anyway, my point was that these look like one of those products that end up being a huge rip off.
can anyone confirm this? or is it actually a good product??
14Well,I have the kind were you sqeeze andnail polish comes out which is impossible to design with. These are some much better. So what if it cracks....you cant see it unless you get realy close.
15i just bought these nail pens and they work great! i love them they are so easy to use and for all those who say it cracks i dont get any....maybe its because we are using diffrent top coats?i am using the sally hansens strengthening topcoat.from a scale of 1-10 i wouls give these a 9!
