If you pay attention to the hype, you might think that Dior's DiorShow Mascara can do no wrong. Indeed, the original DiorShow is a pretty amazing mascara. So when the limited-edition Dior DiorShow Black Out Mascara ($23) hit stores, I rushed out to get a tube. The mascara promised to be darker and more dramatic than the original, as well as to curl, lengthen, and add shine and volume to lashes.
Until now, I had never considered the possibility that a mascara could be too dramatic. But honestly, Black Out is too dark for me, so read more
From the moment I put it on until the moment I took it off, I felt like a hooker. So while I give it kudos for fulfilling all of its claims, this mascara is just over the top.
It's great for a night on the town when you're doing the whole fake lashes or mod look, but for an everyday mascara, you better watch out. If you're wearing a mini and heels, be prepared for some unsolicited attention.

I love this mascara!
Then again I love big black fake eyelashes!
I rather have great big perfect lashes... a little eyeliner... and a very neutral eyeshadow. I love the whole dramatic eye look.
1Does this mascara wash off with water? or is it really difficult to remove? I'm looking for a mascara that stays on but can easily be washed off with regular water. Any suggestions?
2I tried every mascara under the sun before my wedding in Mexico last year, & the one I now cannot live without is NOT the DiorShow - but the Givenchy Eye Fly.
BEST.STUFF.EVER.
3I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE THIS MASCARA...IT IS QUITE DARK, BUT IT REALLY DEFINES MY EYELASHES AND GIVES THE 'DOE-EYED' LOOK...HOWEVER IT IS QUITE A TASK TO GET IT ALL OFF AT NIGHT!!
4I must be the only one who uses a little bit of baby oil to take off mascara. I dab a little on my finger tips and run them over my lashes. Then I wash with my entire face with my Ponds cleanser. It takes off all my eye makeup with out issue's. I never liked any of the so call eye-makeup removers. I always found them annoying and they never really removed all my mascara. And they are incredibly pricey.
5i bought the original diorshow recently and luv it. I've heard horror story about the limited edition so it wasn't even on my list of possibilities.
6I can't imagine a mascara being too black, that's the point. And also, I didn't know you could remove mascara with only water.... I don't think you can.
7hey crystalblue and ikitty i currently use the imju fiberlash mascara (it's available at sephora for $23) and i absolutely love it! it's fantastic for day to day use and yes, it's waterproof but comes off so easily with warm water, you gotta love that japanese innovation! it doesnt really volumnise lashes but it lenghtens them as the fibers in the mascara stick on to your own lashes to give you that fake-lashes effect. i think bella did a review on it a few months ago before it came out? hope this helps
8I have tried DiorShow and wasn't very satisfied at all. It was too heavy for me I learned a trick from my mother in law to wash off eye makeup including mascara. Take a tissue or square cotton pad dab it with water then put Johnson's baby shampoo (a dab too) and wash your eyes with it. It doesn't not sting your eyes at all it works wonders if u run out of your favorite eye makeup remover.
9That's a good tip liza. I was debating between Diorshow and Benefit's Big Lash mascara, I ended up going with Benefit. I think it was a few bucks cheaper. Anyway, I really like it, it defines my lashes really well and surprisingly looks pretty natural. My only complaint, when I wear it on my lower lashes it tends to smudge more easily than the other stuff I used before.
10Crystalblue, the Diorshow is not easily to be washed off. Best result I could get when mixing my mascara'd lashes with water when wearing the Diorshow was a certain similarity with panda bears.
11I honestly still want to try out the Black Out Ltd edition. Although I really should keep my money : I have a pale skin à la Snow White and blue eyes. And I have no intention at all to see big black cars stop in the street and ask "How much?".
i loved it when i tried it at sephora....lovely lashes, made my eyes pop even though i was wearing my glasses that day!
12dior show is the best mascarra ever
13the blacker the lashes the better!!!
14I wasn't impressed with regular DiorShow mascara. It flaked onto my cheeks by the middle of the day. I love Fresh Supernova mascara.
15I'd like to give this one a try, but Imji Fiberwig is a keeper for now. Mind you, it's awful at volume, but my short lashes thank the length it gives them. If I want more volume, I apply some BE brushless mascara over it.
16I worship ALL Dior makeup....
17i love dior mascara! especially waterproof
18i might have to try this.
19Yeah i would like to try it too!
20Are you honestly giving a product a lower review for delivering as promised?
21It was just toooo good?
For us toe headed honeys with not such thick lashes this is like manna from heaven.
Ive had it for a week and I wonder what took me so long.
The review should be based on if the product delivers, not what your taste in mascara style is; its called Diorshow Blackout for a reason.
I read about all the hype over Diorshow mascara, bought it and found it wasn't what I expected. I prefer Benefit Badgal mascara. Black Out interests me too still though.
22Hautie! No, you're not the only one! I use baby oil to remove my eye makeup too. I love it. It's great. Sometimes I get a little in my eye and it makes things a little blurry for a minute but other than that I LOVE IT. It's so practical and inexpensive and it def. does the job. It doesn't pull or tug my skin or lashes. LOOOOOVE ITT.
23I am willing to try any beauty product, so I may have to go out and buy this.
But as far as DiorShow original - I wasn't impressed.
24i bought it and thought it was going to be great, but it wasn't. throughout the day, it left a black smudgy thing under my eyes, making me look like a raccoon. the best mascara i've used it chanel's inimitable with a shu uemra eye lash curler
25I was going to get Black out after I read all of the rav reviews, but after trying it at the Dior counter, I decided not to purchase. I agree -- its just too much for everyday unless you are in Vogue. I ended up going with Chanel Extracils and at the same price as Dior, it was perfect. I get perfectly curled, lengthened black lashes every time and it never streaks or smudges. It can go from day to night easily with another coat. GREAT stuff
26i'm curious.. but then i get racoon eyed (or panda-eyed
?)
wearing normal mascaras.. but then it's a fancy dior "black-out".. maybe i'll go and try it at sephora
27love this stuff!
28Ohhhh, I'm up to replace my Dior Show. I wasn't fond of Benefit's equivalent, can't remember which one.
But for night, I'm going to grab a tube of this as well. If I don't like it, I'll just give it to my boyfriend's daughter. She loves my make up castoffs!
29I love mascara. It is the one thing I cannot live without being fair skin and a red head. I love Dior products and I am sure this mascara is wonderful as well. I cannot wait to try it.
30This is one of the best mascara's around...love it and live it till the end!
Cheers!
31happy to hear all your comments cause i considered buying it. almay makes a wonderful mascara for an even better price! the mascara in their eye color line for hazels is called "black pearl" and it's by far the best i've ever used. no matter what your eye color, it makes your lashes look beautiful and far from fake and tacky! try it!
32This is my Holy Grail mascara. I have dark dark brown/black-is hair, so for me a mascara can never be too black.
Until about a week ago, I never used any expensive department store brand of mascara, only drugstore brands like Maybelline. As soon as I put Dior ShowBlack on my lashes, holy cow, it's like my lashes came alive!!! You can SO tell between department store and drugstore brands.
So even though $23 may be a lot to spend, do yourself a favor and invest in this or either the regular Diorshow...you'll be glad you did!
33I bought this mascara and it was a monumental letdown! It was clumpy and made me look hooker-esque! NO BETTER than a cheap drug store mascara. I brought it back to Sephora right away and got 'Bad gal lash' from Benefit instead... which was cheaper than the Dior and far superior.
34I've found a new favorite!
I LOVE THE DIORSHOW MASCARA....IT MAKES MY EYE LASHES SO LONG AND FULL...I LOVE THE WHOLE FAKE EYE LASH LOOK...WOOOOO =D...X
