Oprah Winfrey's fans were excited when she began Twittering earlier this month, and — unsurprisingly — they had a multitude of questions for the superstar. One of the most popular: is that your natural hair, or is that a weave? Through a quick tweet and a fast mention on Friday's show, she answered the question. "Everybody’s like, 'Oprah, we love your weave,'" she said. "This is not a weave, this is my hair."

Here's the proof: A photo of Oprah pre-makeup and prestyling. For years, Oprah's hair has been coiffed by her personal stylist, Andre Walker. And while not everyone can have someone like Andre on call like Oprah can, here's the next best thing: Andre Talks Hair, a 1997 guide to styling hair types of all ethnicities, can be had for just one cent.

I can believe it. You never know what a celebrity hair looks like because they do always wear weave to protect their hair and they have people taking care of their hair everyday. You get what you pay for.
1its hardcover for 1 cent!! wow, i need a personal stylist like that too!!
2I also like that Oprah is cool with showing the world her face and hair before makeup and styling. She looks cute, and if memory serves, she also did something similar in an issue of O back in the day.
3I'm baffled as to why people would think that Oprah wears a weave when Andre specified in his book exactly how he does her hair. He washes it every morning, deep conditions it, and then rolls her hair with rollers. There's no way that hair could not possibly grow without that kind of constant care. Besides, she's natural. I can attest that if your hair is natural and its getting that kind of treatment, it will grow like weeds. I hardly do anything to mine and I've been natural for almost 6 months. My stylist is even surprised at the quick growth and I think I might reach my goal of SL in less than a year.
4I actually think she looks much better on that picture than with all the makeup!
5yea sure its your hair
6...cause u bought it
BS! The curly style is a weave!!
7It's her only good quality.
8I should have dated my hair stylist like My mom wanted me to. LOL
9He is a straight man by the way.
10I remember people talking about this and it amazes me how many people don't think an African American woman's hair can grow past their shoulders. She has the benefit of having a stylist nourish and care for her hair everyday. Any woman could have longer have if they are genetically predisposed and most of all, take care of it.
I cut my hair down to about an inch back in November of 2007 and stopped relaxing it. When I started locing my hair about a month and a half ago, it was past my shoulders when wet. Excessive heat styling, too much tension, not properly moisturizing, and harsh chemicals lead to breakage. Oprah has a fabulous stylist on her side to help her natural hair look fabulous. Don't hate on that. Take a lesson from it.
11Oh and Bella, thanks for the tip on the book. It has been on my must buy list for about a year now.
12i never though she was wearing a wig...
13I never really gave it a thought. I do remember when she did pretty much the same thing in O magazine. I think she looks younger pre-makeup and hair.
14Yes, she looks amazingly young without makeup. I love her regular "show" style as well, but dang, Oprah, good genes much?
15umm Bella I'm sorry she does not look Amazingly young without makeup... And it is possible for our textured hair to grow... with the right care it can be down to your waist...
16My hair is past my shoulders, though I'm though I'm the oppposite. My hair grows longer and faster when permed. My natural curl is too tight for my fine hair, so it breaks just from hair to hair contact and combing. When it's relaxed it's less stressed. I don't let other people over process my hair or burn it with irons and I don't have any problems with it growing. I'm aiming for mid back by the end of the year.
17JessieBanana, with all due respect, your statements make no more sense than a banana. I respect your decision to not grow natural, but i believe its the care you give your natural hair that causes it to grow. There's no way humanly possibly that relaxed hair can grow better, faster or longer than natural. Its an oxymoron of terms. The reason why your hair breaks so easily is because the relaxed hair is so fragile and the natural hair is so strong that the stress from everyday styling will cause breakage along the line of demarcation.
Once you are completely natural, you will have much less problems.
This is not a ploy to bait you into going natural, but you allowed yourself to fall right into the stereotype of "nappy hair does not grow."
18OH NO!!!don't wake her up...
19I love that she wears her own hair...TAKE THAT TYRA! ahahahaha!
20come on, If that hot mess in the picture (behind the head band) were pressed...Beyonce would slash were wrists!! The end results do not reflect that fullness or length.
21Well that certainly looks like Oprah's hair to me in the picture. While my hair is certainly not as thick as Op's, it's pretty darn healthy!
22It thins with age...
23GKitty, Oprah's hair is just fine. Stop with the negativity.
24Excuse me leanneluvsu, but I've worn my hair natural from birth to 18, my mom wouldn't let me straighten and I didn't necessarily care to. So please don't tell me what works for my hair. I have naturally fine curly hair.
I didn't grow up with the belief my hair had to be permed and until I moved into a black neighborhood as a child I didn't really know what that meant.
25OMG,ugly,ugly,ugly!!!
26I can"t belive it!!!!
poor oprah!!!!!! so sorry!!
she looks great
27I definitely think that some of her styles are weaves but not all weave. Her bigger, curly styles have added pieces. But, I can believe she is all natural. I've been natural for almost 3 years and my hair is growing back to the ridiculous lengths it was when I was little. I've always had long hair even with a relaxer but being natural is worlds better. Besides, she has a hair stylist! I don't care who the stylist is, if they know what they are doing then yeah, your hair is going to be long and healthy. Oprah, rock it out in that pic!
28not all hers,do you realize how long her hair would be if that hair was all pressed out...fusion...
