Being a sunscreen devotee, I haven't had a tan since I was about ten. Self-tanners usually made me look more Sunkist than sun-kissed, so I gave up on the idea of looking tanned. And then I tried GlowFusion AirGlow ($175), billed as the world's first and only airbrush self-tanning system. Essentially, it uses the same technology as the spray tanners you'd find at the spa, but you do the work yourself. To find out whether it delivers the tan, read more
I was worried about making a giant mess with this thing, but AirGlow is surprisingly easy to use. You just let it charge for eight hours, pour in the tanning juice (it's called Micro-Nutrient Tinted Protein Tan Mist) and pull the trigger. A cool, cocoa-scented mist goes straight on your body, not on the shower wall—no mess! Because the mist is tinted, it's easy to see where you've sprayed; the only problem is learning how to evenly control the mist. I wound up lingering on my forearms too long, and completely missing the backs of my calves.
The morning after I AirGlowed, I looked more like Malibu Barbie than Casper for a change. The "tan" was nicely natural, not orangey or visibly fake. Sure, it was a little blotchy due to my user error, and my sheets were a little stained (note to self: next time, let this stuff thoroughly dry!). But for the most part, I looked as though I'd just spent two weeks lounging in Ibiza. I'm curious, though: Would you pay $175 for a great at-home system? Or would you rather stick with cheaper lotion self-tanners?

Huh, I am intrigued and impressed that you got non-orange results, but I can't ever see myself spending the $ on this. If I need to look tan I'll use the lotions, otherwise I will just embrace my pale (and sometimes pasty) skin.
1I don't know if I could spend that kind of money for a spray-on. I'd rather use a tinted lotion like I am now, for A LOT less. Or I'll go pay for a Mystic Tan, which is still cheaper.
2I have always thought about trying this product but I am such a spastic I was scared that I would turn out with crazy orange spots. If you say it's pretty easy and the tan was natural looking I might give it a try. I am very pale skinned and have freckles so I am always obsessed about sunscreen. Thanks Bella! If anyone else has tried this please let me know how it worked!
3wow that seams cool... i know it sounds expensive but if you knew what i spent on mystic tans... that would sadly pay for iself pretty quickly.
4Aveeno lotion for this pale girl! It takes away the blue glow I get in the sun without looking obviously fake.
5Ugh- Its like good jeans. Are you willing to make the investment for something you love?
I am dying to try this to- but I think I might just stick to my tantowels.
6How do the tan towels work? I have seen them but haven't tried them yet.
7i'm curious - how long does this tan last? and how long did it take to apply?
8also does the spray only come in 1 color? or are there several options?
9Very interesting. But I don't know if I'd spend $175.
10I know that the tint allows you to see where you have sprayed, but I prefer to use a clear solution because of the rub off factor. Even if you allow it to dry, it still comes off with the slightest amount of moisture.
11The tan lasted a little over a week, and it took me about 15 minutes to apply. But the first time I did it, I made some mistakes and wound up with some blotches. I think if you can find a friend (or a "special friend") who can spray you, it would be a lot easier!
12I want to get this for my best friend. Seems she's tried ever sunless tanner under the sun and GlowFusion is her fav but she doesn't have the gun.
13i am thinking that this could be a great gift for my friend who is getting married in the fall, she is pretty pale and maybe all the bridesmaids could have a tanning party before the big day

15Intriguing. Special friends are hard to come by
16this is fabulous! Where do I buy one?
I too am a sunscreen devotee who hasn't had a tan in years. I love the spray tan but hate having to go there, pay for it, take my clothes off, let it dry, go home. It would be so much easier if I could take this task on myself.
17i wish one of my friends would buy it and let me try it out lol cause i'm not coordinated at all when it comes to stuff like that! i'd end up looking like a tiger or cheetah or something! i barely can use normal lotions with out streaks!
18It's good to know it has a good smell. My friend did the mystic tan and was convinced she smelled like waffles after. Strange, but they went to the store afterward and the cashier said it smelled like breakfast. So I've been hesitant ever since.
19Jergen's works for me unless I apply too much. If I had the $ to spare I might try it though
20I would definitely pay $175 for this tool. I don't splurge on beauty all the time (just a few classics, like Lancome), but I do always have a nice fake tan. Maybe this will make me an official pro at self tanning.
21Im not one to spend that much money! However, if you have someone you trust to help you brush it on it would be worth a try! I have a teenage daughter that wants to go to tanning salons, this would be a much better altternative I think.
22mystic tan has an odor because the chemical that is sprayed from the booth reacts with your skin to give you a tan and also releases an odor... mystic tan makes a 'refresher spray' that is supposed to make the smell go away, but i've never tried it, even though i mystic pretty often...
i also love neutrogena tanning mist... my brother actually introduced me to it, and i've been addicted ever since!
23I would definitely try this. My mom and I have been searching for a good sunless tanner for a long time. If this really doesn't turn you orange in I'm.
24maybe the people at sunset tan should have used this for that little girl that turned oompa loompa orange.
25It's interesting, but I don't know if i could spend the money on it. I've been using Dove Energising Glow and I love it!! I like it better then Jergens too, there isn't really a smell and you can see a difference in a couple days
26looks pretty cool
27I avoid the sun like the plague, so this might be interesting, esp if I don't look like an Oompa Loompa afterward. Always a plus. $175 is a bit stiff, though!
28This sounds cool, but I don't think I'd hand over that much money to use it.
29If I could affors it, I would buy it - it seems worth it.
30thank you, bella, for this review! i have been contemplating buying this (and sent you an email about it), and i think my decision is made! one quick question, though: how many tans do you get from one of the canisters of protein tan? thank you!!!
31I saw this the other day at the store and was wondering about it. I like spray tanning, the only problem is that the place I go to has this weird system were you stand in front of it and it sprays you, it comes out all blotchy
I might need to try this, since it seems like you can
have more control. Thanks for the reviw!
32Nevermind the back of your calves... how on earth do you get the back of your thighs, your bum, or back? The thing seems pretty large and bulky... or is it really user-friendly, for lack of a better term?
I use Saint Tropez sunless tanning system from sephora. It's heaven-sent, a great product, very subtle and natural.
33Haha no way would I manage to look nice from this...I wish though!
34i bought this a week ago and tried it last night. the thing sucks! wouldn't spray at all. got it all over my hands (luckily i washed it off in time). the parts of my legs i did get are in stripes. literally stripes! horrible! returning immediately!!!
35Looks awesome!!
36How many tans/applications can you get from the 8oz tanning juice?
37I only used the AirGlow sprayer on Friday and it died quickly after less than 2 minutes. I figured it just might need to charge more then charged it again and tried on Saturday. This time I was only about to get about 45 seconds out of the sprayer, whats more is the the paint started to come off where the part where the tanning fluid is held. Today, I tried to use the sprayer and now the part that holds the fluid only bubbles and the fluid will not travel up inside the sprayer. This is absolute piece of junk! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
