I have a strange affinity for the mullet. It may be all "business in the front, party in the back," but when styled just right, this oft-mocked hairstyle can actually have a fresh, chic appearance. And during some recent red carpet events, this shaggy cut was out in full force: Sharon Stone wore her signature short locks in a side-swept mullet-like fashion at the amfAR benefit; Taraji P. Henson, who gained much recognition for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button sported a shorter, wispier style than from her versatile bob; and Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl fame, rocked her bold blond mane at a CW network event in NYC. Would you be OK with the mullet making a return, or would you like to see it stay in the past?

It's more of a layered shag that a mullet.
1In general, me no likey.
2I'm just not a fan
3ew i dont rly like mullets
4Ew, never.
5i don't see the mullet connection at all with taylor momsen's cut... am i crazy?
6I agree with cloroxcowgirl. They seem more like versions of a layered shag to me and those can be flattering.
7I agree with cloroxcowgirl. They seem more like versions of a layered shag to me and those can be flattering.
8I have one of those haircuts! I totally love it. I get my short look when I put my hair up ... and my mom is happy that I have some length in the back.
I agree with other commenters though ... it's more a shag than a mullet.
9Yeah, it's a shag.
Btw, "mullet" was a fun and fresh reference back in 2000.
10I agree that it's a shag cut, not a "mullet"...but I still don't like it much.
11please god NO!
12I really do not like Taylor Momsen's hair. Her old hairstyle was much better. Also, I hope mullets never come back.
13Dear g*d no.
The mullet is such an awful hair "style".
Also, I believe the cuts shown are a variation of the shag; there is still quite a it of length on the front & sides. Still, I do not care for those three cuts.
14The only thing I can appreciate about the mullet is its comedic value.
15Sharon's hair is more of a mullet/comb over.
16How is Taylor's hair a mullet?
17Ooh, you're young! A mullet is short and boyish on the top and the sides, can easily look like a normal man's haircut, until you see behind the ears where the hair is all one length. Think Billy Ray Cyrus circa Achy Breaky Heart. What you've got with Taylor is just bangs, and the other two have what was known as a Shag haircut. Shags were popular in the 70s. Taraji's haircut is exactly like Mrs. Brady's shag!
18Please, no...Just no.
19Taylor's really doesn't seem like a mullet to me - at all.
20in that pic taylor's doesn't look too mullet-y, but there have been quite a few times on gg where her layers get a bit of a fubar thing going on... but it's more business on top party down under, the short layers go all the way around her head not just the front... it reminds me of a woman that worked at the grocery store when i was a kid that we used to call "peanut hair" hahaha
21i agree with keiran - taraji has mrs. brady's haircut!!
22Mullets... Where I come from only people who aren't in touch with fashion since 1984 would wear this.
Sorry. I find this haristyle horroful and dated.
23Call it what you want but these definitely look like business in the front party in the back to me. Layers indeed...
Except Momsen. She just looks like a wh0re all the time.
All of you people with "shags" have mullets and are too unstylish to even know it. I pity you fools.
24Lord no...
25No, the shag came first. The mullet is an abomination of shag. Shags are gradual layers, the mullet has a severe difference between shorter and the longer layers. Almost all layered long haircuts, no matter how tasteful, have shorter layer in the front and longer layers in the back. We don't say those people have mullets. We used to joke about mullets back in 2000, but it isn't as kitchy, insightful or as funny to make fun of them as it used to be.
It is like "mom jeans." Mom jeans were funny and descriptive once upon a time, but now it is just not creative or insightful to point out someone is wearing mom jeans. Once SNL brings it to the masses, it isn't that brilliant to use. Besides, all the uncool moms have already started wearing bootcut jeans thanks to Oprah.
26I had the exact haircut that taylor has when I was in college. It was more of a rockish look -- extra choppy and random layers. so...more shag than mullet, but yea, i did hate it after a while because it just seemed to be a bit like a mullet to me. I guess they're ok, but i can't stand them on anyone long term.
27I agree, this is more of a modified shag look. I do not like mullets, and in particular men should never, never, never again wear mullet hairstyles.
28the mullet continues to live on in Europe where it relocated permanently after the 80s. True story.
29I went in for a "shape up" and walked out with this! Hate it! It's like 3 cuts- one in the back, one on the top and another on the sides. Thank goodness, my hair grows fast!
