When I'm paying, I would ask the front desk/receptionist if I could quickly speak to a manager. I'm paying for their time and services, not for them to be on the phone with their buddies.

Luckily my stylist is wonderful so I've never had to be in that situation. I'm so not above telling everyone I know who and where I received the awful service from either!

Tacky, but I have to say the worst I've experienced was when a stylist stepped out for a cigarette then came back to stick her smelly hands all in my hair. Gross.

My hairdresser answers her phone while doing my hair. I don't have a problem w/it because it doesn't affect her work. I've been with her for 10 years now and she's done my hair the best it's ever been done, so it's minor to me.

When I used to go to a small shop with 3 stylists, whoever was least busy at that moment would answer the phone to book appointments. I understood because they were just starting out and couldn't afford a receptionist yet and they never sat on the phone and chatted.

Now I go to a major salon that has multiple receptionists so I would be very unhappy if my stylist answered her phone during my cut...especially if it was a personal call (unless it was her son's sitter with an emergency or something similar)!

My old hairdresser used to do this all the time. I'd usually go on Saturdays, and her kids would call her 2 or 3 times an hour every time I was there. It always pissed me off, but I didn't complain because it was her kids. They never called for emergencies, though, just to complain about each other or to ask her where something was.

Eh, as long as it isn't affecting their work. I'm not paying to talk to them. They can talk to other stylist or whatever, I'd plug in my head phones and zone out...but then I'm a bit antisocial like that.

Yes! To her on again off again boyfriend, no less. While they were off, and fighting. She spent the entire cut/color on the phone fighting with him. I forgave her at the time because she was going through a rough patch [she owned a salon that had to close] but now I think it was very rude.

Of course, she then moved 6 states away without telling any of her clients. Including the ones she already had established appointments with.

My sister is my stylist, she owns a salon. She answers the phone for her business, when she does my hair, for free, so I am cool with it.

My hairdresser answers the phone while doing my hair. I don't have a problem w. it because she is making an appt. for another client and it doesn't affect her attention to my hair at all. The phone calls are also brief. I have been going to my stylist for 13 years now so we are close.

My stylist owns her own shop and is the only stylist in her shop. She's her own boss. She answers her phone to book appointments while she is doing my hair. Most of the time she stops working on my hair to answer the calls. I'm cool with it since she's the only one in the shop and she always does an awesome job.

Since my stylist, I have been with her for more than a decade, and before she answers a call (always on vibrate when working) she would always ask me before she answers, and that was rare. Unlike the woman I went to when my stylist was on leave. While she was doing my hair she answered once, I ignored it, but when she did it the again I thought to myself, if I paid less that the charged amount I am sure she would speak her mind, so I asked her to let go of my hair, stood up, explained to her my point of view and asked her if she could do the job with out talking then she could continue, oh and i expect a good job, if not then theres no problem I will walk out.
She apologized and went to work.
I dont mind so much as long as the person shows respect, this woman was laughing, giggling and saying things like, I can't talk but you understand. She made me uncomfortable when I am paying for the damn thing!

Oh my Gosh, this happened to me when I was getting my eyebrows waxed and it ended terribly. At that place, I get small burns every other time, I blamed it on my topical acne medication. I was getting it done by this new guy, and he was texting and talking on the phone the entire time, while waxing my eyebrow and lip. He was obviously infuriated by the text message, and he kept going over the same places OVER AND OVER AND OVER again, each time getting harder. Then when he was wiping off the wax, what felt like sandpaper was pressed down onto my skin and rubbed back and forth. It was the most painful thing I've ever had happened to my eyebrows. Then what felt like alcohol was poured onto my eyebrows and lip, and it stung like a b*tch, I started sobbing. For the next week my entire eyebrows and upper lip were completely raw and burnt red. Worst experience ever.
My hairdresser does it, but she usually answers quickly to see what it is and then tells them she's working and has to go. I don't blame her because her nail salon is in her home.

I think it is rude because when I go for a hair cut or manicure, etc. I want to relax.. I don’t want to hear the phone ringing, or kids screaming or playing around, I think that is so annoying!!

Yes, my former hair stylist did this all the time. One more reason I don't go to her anymore and do my own. I was paying for her time!

Never has a hairstylist, massage therapist, or waxer done this to me at a high end salon. However, almost ALWAYS when I am getting my nails done at my little hole in the wall. Gotta say though, they do an amazing job anyway so who am I to complain?

I've never had that, but when I was getting my nails done the woman doing them was talking in Korean to her co-worker. I just think it's really rude especially when for all you know they are saying something about you.

they usually went away for just a sec to answer the phone, so i didn't really mind.

I have had this happen, but only when the stylist was the only person in the salon and it was a small salon (and I was the only client) oh...and the stylist was my friend...

My stylist knows I'd smack him one if he did this to me.
I NEVER have my phone on me when I'm at work (I work as a waitress and in retail) and my family and friends know to never call unless its an emergency, so if my stylist chatted with friends I'd probably give him an earful.

When I go get my hair done, my stylist will excuse herself if a call comes in specifically for her. Never long, never right at the station.

When I had fake nails, the guy that did my nails would take calls, but he was the manager. He had to handle appointments, because some of the staff had abused the work phone. I didn't mind, because it was quick. He'd also get calls from his wife, but that was ok because most of the time it was about their baby daughter.

One time he wasn't available, and I got another tech at the salon, who is deaf. She'd stop every few minutes to text. THAT got irritating!

Yes I have and I do have a problem with it. I'm paying for her/his time and services and I'm not paying for them to be talking on the phone.
I waitress at night as a second job and if I suddenly just answered my phone while serving a table I think they would get pretty annoyed - same principle.
Don't answer your phone while at work, whatever ley way you have.

The only time it has happened to me is when my stylist's mother was in the hospital. I don't have that much of a problem with it because it never seems to impact her work.

yea, i've had hairdressers talk on the phone while doing my hair, but it never bothered me. plus, they kept working on my hair as they spoke on the phone and the final product was still very good, so no worries here.

Only in nail salons, never with a hair stylist!

I had a massage therapist that constantly text messaged during my appointment. It was definitely a distraction to my relaxing! I haven't spoken up to the manager (I know, I should), but I have stated that I specifically don't want that masseuse again.
