The biggest makeup trend of the season may be the no-makeup look — at least in France. The latest edition of ELLE France features Scarlett Johansson with a minimally made-up face. Sure, it's not like she's going makeup-free, and any photo spread will have retouching done, but it's fun to see such a glamorous girl look more low-key than she does on the red carpet. Based on this photo shoot and others you've seen, would you like to see more stars lean toward a bare-faced look, or do you like to see people gussied up?

I like in between. Like, not overly made up with dark liner, heavy lipstick or whatever. But going bare-faced is not my thing, either. I say a little foundation, some eyeliner, mascara and gloss is fine. Casual, nothing over the top, but you still look put together.
I think she would have looked better blonde, the dark hair and barely there makeup makes her look tired.
She looks scary, like how I look when I wake up! I don't think she has that "little" minimal make-up, I think she's just wearing nudes, and no color in her cheeks, she looks ill. Like the comment ^ I think mascara opens eyes, and a little color makes you look alive/awake. Some ppl are lucky to have natural flush, my friend wears no blush or anything and always has the cutest, natural pink cheeks- in her case minimal make-up is okay.
I think she looks so adorable and I love the dark hair it looks more natural to me. Also I would love it if minimal makeup was done more on magazine covers because it would make it more attainable and also I would like to see models that look like they have a life that doesnt involve being on the treadmill as your full time job. Make women feel better about themselves, not worse. That's my motto.
I think it's the lack of color in her cheeks, and I totally agree that she looks tired. I appreciate not having on heavy makeup or dark lipstick, but this just looks bad.
whats with the glassy-eyed look? she looks drugged out. and the open-mouth thing does not suit her.
She young, so it kind of works on her, but I prefer the blonde hair on her. I think minimal make up works well on women with healthy complexions. Like Kate Winslet, and some of the Latina actresses who have great coloring
Her hair looks nice...she doesn't look tired, just subdued and much more subtle. Blonde is easy and brunette you have to look at Scarlett, really really look at her and she doesn't looks bad.
Though I will say that I agree, the open mouth pose is a no no.
I think she looks good, I think this set of pics is a nice contrast to the ad's and such she's been in lately.
OMG i didnt even realize who that was. haha
she looks the same to me. airbrushing is all the same.
i like in between too,not too much makeup, and scarlett does look tired in those pics, but still good
Y'all are crazy! I love this minimal look on her! The dark hair is really pretty too. Normally her face is so caked with makeup. She's young with beautiful skin and doesn't need to hide behind layers of makeup and bleached out hair.
She looks like Selma Blair in that last photo.
She looks very french and fabulous, but I prefer a little more coloring. Some pink on the cheeks would be nice. Especially with darker hair. I change back and forth between black and dark blonde hair myself all the time and I really need to adjust my make-up every time.
In these photo's she reminds me of her character in "The girl with the pearl earring".
I'm so anti-heavy makeup. I don't know what the purpose is, and frankly if people have to wear so much to look put together then maybe they should be taking better care of themselves.
I think she's looks great and I love the dark hair on her. Blond can be a bit bimbo looking on her, with the dark hair you can really appreciate her features and beauty.
bare is beautiful...the prettiest moments for me are right after I've washed my face and out on moisturizer...my husband likes me better that way too...and I think celebs should ease up b/c they can look very clownish
She looks great. Adopt the french "négligé"
She looks amazing but not like herself. I actually like glamorous makeup for magazines, it's a source of inspiration. I already know how to do minimal makeup.
No. I like makeup and as long as they don't go over makeup is awesome.
Yes. While it is fun to see stars with glam looks, I enjoy seeing them "stripped" down and more like themselves (not some airbrushed barbie.) I find it more inspirational and relatable. Also, IMO, Scarlett looks much more stunning wearing less makeup.
i don't really like this one,
but i love seeing stars more natural.
I don't understand why just because the cover is meant to be "natural" and "make-up less" that the lighting of the cover has to be so dull and boring
I think Scarjo actually looks pretty good here. I like her better toned down a bit - she is so sensual looking that the blonde bombshell look is overkill IMO. I like her best with red hair but I think this is an interesting look for her.
I prefer her with makeup
"She's young with beautiful skin and doesn't need to hide behind layers of makeup and bleached out hair." So true! I love her in those pictures, she looks fantastic and finally her age. She's a very pretty girl but she normally looks older with the over the top make up.
I would love to see more stars with minimal make up. Most of the time I don't wear any make up, I like myself better that way.
sure, why not? on a side note - she's a terrible brunette, and if it were not for the magic of make up, i doubt she'd be regarded as a sex symbol.
Minimal make-up is OK, good even. Grey backgrounds are depressing. (Same as the no make-up covers.) Seriously, I don't think it helps.
yeah, but scary. i was at premier of The Hangover and Heather Graham had sooo much make up on it was terrifying. it looked like the pieces of it are going to fall into her drink
i think it depends on who the star is, but for scarlett i'd have to say i prefer her done up
