Whenever I meet a makeup artist, I'm always intrigued by her version of the "five-minute face" or other similarly swift application techniques. Last year, Bruce Grayson gave me the lowdown on a six-minute face, and now Dell Ashley of Yves Saint Laurent is sharing his advice on a five- and seven-minute face.
If you only have five minutes:
- Dell recommends using a primer/moisturizer duo on the skin as a prepping agent. Next, apply a complexion-boosting foundation, such as Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation ($55) and highlighter on these six areas of your face.
If you only have two more minutes:
- Apply lipstick and mascara. It's as simple as that.
Find out some tips for making these simple techniques work for you, along with some lower-priced recommendations right here.
Tips for creating the five- and seven-minute face:
- Don't skimp on skin care. You might even find that you can skip the foundation step altogether.
- While spending upwards of $150 on products might not be a reality, might I recommend some more affordable finds? Prep with Professionnel Perfection Makeup Base ($12); Apply foundation using CoverGirl Advanced Radiance SPF 10 ($10.50); and highlight with Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer ($13).

I have learned to be quicker with my makeup application while still being neat about it. I can do foundation/powder, liner, shadow and gloss is 5 minutes. It's a skill that took me from 45 minutes in HS (being overly meticulous, starting and re-doing, etc) to now. I am proud!
1My hurry face is tinted moisturizer, a quick bit of concealer under the eyes, quick sweep of shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. It sounds like a bunch, but it's not.
If I have extra time, I moisturize and give my dry spots a quick buff with a washcloth, then the whole primer-foundation-concealer dance. Then again my time-intensive face only takes about 10 minutes.

3Tips are nice and all but I hate when make-up "artists" recommend products, such as the Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer, which comes in only about two shades. I'M SORRY BUT NOT EVERYONE IS FAIR SKINNED. That really angers me. Is't the point of being a makeup artist to be versatile and cater to all?!!
4TallDiva — Sorry about the confusion. I offered up those suggestions, not Dell, who works for YSL. Have you ever tried Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector? It's one of my favorites! http://www.harmondiscount.com/searchresult.html?catalog=yhst-29523360387...
5AH I love five minute tips! I definitely agree skincare is important. I've been getting lucky lately with good skin, so I can get away with just the concealer and some SPF bronzing powder! But curling my lashes is a must still.. I'm considering Eyelash perm to skip that altogether.. Is that to extreme?!
