Like it or not, it's bikini season, and that can mean red bumps around the bikini line after waxing or shaving. I've given you tips for combating inflammation, and after further research — along with your tips and tricks — I've gathered together some of the more unconventional remedies that can be applied post-hair removal.
I can't say I've tested them all out, and I can't even say that they're all effective, but most are simple and cheap — not to mention readily available in your home. Find out these DIY treatments after the jump.
- Clear deodorant
- Hydrocortisone cream
- Paste of turmeric powder and rose water or plain water
- Coconut oil
- Desitin ($5)
- Apple cider vinegar
- Paste of aspirin and warm water
- Strawberry and sour cream mask
- Men's aftershave, like Aveda Men After-Shave Balm ($15).
- Cucumber mash. According to Chootoo, a blend of three ice cubes, a peeled cucumber, and three tablespoons of witch hazel applied to this tender area will provide soothing results.

I can second the hydrocortisone cream. I always have it around for problems with eczema. It's also great when you're taking care of nasty ingrowns anywhere on your body. Just wash the area with an acne or antibacterial wash and then apply a bit of hydrocortisone.
1The aspirin thing works, same thing as tend skin only cheaper and a bit messier. Would apply to ingrown hairs rather than freshly waxed skin.
2I just use Bikini Zone... but I wonder if the bump preventers for guys works.
3I use bikini zone, but sometimes it's too late and I need to remedy a bad bump. I'll try these other methods
4Bikini Zone is effective, but the smell is just so awful! It's like the Buckley's dilemma.
5I always have the urge to buy the products for men but I get too shy at the drugstore, I feel like the cashier will look at me weird, like I'm some diseased hairy person. oh well guess I'll have to try it.
6bikini zone doesn't work for me. the clear deodorant, is true.... i learned it from a dancer at a gentleman's club
7Crystal "deoderant" works great. Just apply right after a shave to underarms and bikini area and you won't get any bumps. The roll-on is easiest to use
8Tend Skin. I swear by it.
There's something weird to me about putting deodorant on my bikini line....
9Good tips!
10My cousin did the deodorant thing and I looked at her like she was crazy. I put bag balm on mine and they're are still bumps but at least it's not hurting.
11deodorant works. bikini zone smells disgusting! i also use aloe vera gel for the irritation.
12Tend Skin works well for me.
13cortisone cream is a goody. also, try lotions and creams with oat/oat meal extracts.
