I know we're all grown-ups here, but how adorable is this children's book? Beauty Day ($15.95) is perfect for little girls who are interested in "playing makeup." It follows the story of Rosie, who's dismayed to find out that she has to spend the day at the beauty parlor where her grandmother works. But as Rosie discovers more about manicures and lipsticks—and helps solve the case of a missing wig—she decides that this beauty stuff isn't so bad!
The book is written and illustrated by award-winning children's author Judith Caseley, who approaches makeup on an age-appropriate level (in other words, little girls won't be demanding highlights and brow arches after reading it). Young readers will love the chance to choose their own hairstyles and nail polish colors, and the story of Rosie bonding with her grandma is very sweet indeed. If you know any budding glamour girl with a birthday coming up, you can't go wrong with Beauty Day.
