Extreme Beauty: 16 Supersized Hairstyles
There's long hair, and then there's long hair — the kind of flowing locks that reach to the waist, knees, or lower. Growing that much hair takes dedication and a lot of shampoo. I've uncovered 16 modern-day Rapunzels who've gone to great lengths for their hairstyles. Check them out.

:vomit: long hair actually grosses me out ... it makes me think of Cousin It.
1I'm not a fan of very long hair...I think it loses a lot of body and bounce once it gets past the lower back.
2Yeah, I tend to agree with the above. I think there was only one picture I actually liked. Most of the others would've looked better with shorter hair. I'm not sure what the fascination with super-long hair is.
3My hair skimmed the tops of my hips for a while, but I had to get it cut due to damage. It now reaches my waist, which feels much too short.
While I do understand peoples' attachment to their super-long hair, I do agree that there are limits. It does start to look awkward once you pass the hips, no matter how healthy it is.
4I have to give it to them for the dedication and the resistance to haircut needs! It's hard for me to go a month without wanting a trim or a different hairstyle. However, I wonder how those hairstyles hold for them in the hot weather, and whether they are able to keep the entire lengths shiny!
5Haircut is not a "need". Millions of women in South East Asia wear their hair below their waistlines all their life, and they take great pride in the length and quality of their hair. From that view point, it is western women with short hair who look awkward, freakish and unfeminine. In fact, it is curious that barely a century ago, bobbed heads were considered rebellious and offensive and long tresses were socially acceptable. Times may have changed but approbation for not following the "acceptable norm" certainly hasn't.
6I agree with you Anonymous!
7Last time checked, men can grow their hair as long as women, so to associate long hair with femininity is silly to me. There are so many great things that make women women.
Beautiful hair is an asset, like pretty eyes. If you got it flaunt it, if you don't cut it to a style that flatters your other facial features.
8I also agree with anonymous...Haters! Lol.
9I love my long hair
I cut it really short once and it just wasn't me, so I grew it out again and I don't plan on cutting it any time soon. There are definitely times when I see cute short cuts, but I just know I wouldn't be happy without my long locks.
To each her own!
10I hate long hair (when the hair is REALLY long). It is disgusting. I like long hair, but when it is very long, it looks so ugly. I always think about those religious women who can't cut their hair. I think you must keep the hair one hand above the butt.
11The only girl with beautiful hair is the first one (the girl in Italy) and the girl number 9.
I firmly believe that longer hair ( even if it is medium length or longer ) is a sign of feminity and there is no doubt about that. For centuries women had longer hair. It is modern for women to have short hair such as the 'pixie' cut. It is rebellious. Regardless of opinion, History does support this fact.
12I like long hair as long as the ends are trimmed and not all split and thin like some of these pics
13I like long hair when it looks healthy & not super thin on the ends. That lady with the braid, looked like she definitely needed a haircut, but I loved the first girl with red hair.
14I just gotta wonder how often these women have to call their plumbers with all of that hair stuck down their shower drains.
15For a few years I was wearing my curly hair as long as #2 (but not with not a blunt cut like that). However when I hit 30 I decided that it was time to shorten it and since then I have been wearing it at bra back-strap length. I think that hair is meant to compliment your face and your style, and I find that after a certain point it's very difficult to achieve such a thing. I would like to have my hair a bit longer (like #9) but most of all I want it to be healthy and beautiful so this comes first.
It's not easy cutting your hair short, or even shorter, when you've had it so long - you feel like Samson!
16I love long hair, and want to grow mine to about the small of my back (I don't think I'd look good with hair longer than that).
I know women with short hair, and I know women with super long hair. People look beautiful with either if they suit the look, IMO.
17My hair is knee length and auburn. It is quite thick and shiny, and I always get compliments on how healthy it looks.
18Mine is a little past my waist and I love it and I get alot of compliments as well! It is super thick and honestly the longer it is the more weighed down it is....when it is short it is just "poofy"...Anyway just thought I would add....
