Heavily lined eyes have been a part of beauty for decades. The trend began in the 60's mod era, and we can see it recreated by Sienna Miller playing Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. Since then, it's made appearances in the 70's, in bright colors in the 80's and again in black in the 90's. Now in 2007, stars are wearing this look on the red carpet.
Lined eyes make a strong statement and are usually seen in shades of black, gray and slate. You can either create a cat eye with a winged tip, a smoky eye, a smudged rocker look or even create a dramatic and dark lower line with a hint of metallic like we saw for the Fall 2007 Luca Luca Show. Nowadays you can't go wrong with a sexy, heavy eye—and that's the bottom line.

1I think it works for fancy occasions, like New Year's or a night at the club. For the day, I like to go simpler.

4I've always loved lining my eyes ever since I even first began putting on makeup! I love how the liner can really make one's eye pop and stand out. Gotta love the smokey eye look!
5I like it, I haven't lined my eyes like that for some time, I think I'll give it a run again. I don't like Amy's liner though, it's... cartoonish? I mean it's kinda cool, but if you're not a singer/entertainer/ect, it might not fly, ya know?

7I think dark liner works at night or for a special occasion.It shouldn't be an everyday thing.

14lies, lies, lies! the heavy liner look does not always look good. case in point- trendy as hell "hot topic" kids. those kids walk around with such heavy liner on that makes them look like they're on drugs( even if they might be).
15i still take part in some pretty eye lining- but not too heavy.
i think it depends on the person if they can pull it off or not. it just wish people didn't cover their whole eye or just the bottom lid- yes i've heard women who say they look hot when they do that. no, they didn't.

17eee! I love eyeliner. not on that first chick though. its all about how you work the lok. its great with pale lips and simple hair, really makes your eyes *pop* very retro

23The best how-to is practice practice practice! Play around with thin lines, thick lines, or lines that get thicker as they pass to the outside of the eye. Also, you can smudge up the eyeliner line with a little bit of a sharpened kohl pencil if the line is too harsh for your taste. I love wearing eyeliner during the day, but I do play down other aspects of my makeup...
24I love liquid liner with kitty cat kicks at the side, it's my Saturday night regular... you won't see me dancing round my handbag without my eyes laiden with liquid liner! Bring on the Pin up fashion trend!!!
25MAC's dress khaki metallic liner is the perfect partner to classic black liquid liner.
26I wear this on a daily basis- my personal tip is that if you go heavy on the eyes, skip the lips. A nice gloss will be fine, but stay away from reds and plums- if you try to 'balance' the heavy eyes with heavy lip colour it generally is overkill.
27im big on thick eye liner, when i dont wear it my eyes look boring, and the only "hot topic kids" who look stupid with thick eyeliner are ones who think they're brandon lee in "The Crow"
28I can't wear heavy eyeliner because my eyes are already too round, and liner would just add too much. It doesnt look good upclose. I like light lined eyes.
29I love a smokey eye, but there's a limit. Angelina looks great, Amy looks like she's trying too hard, like always. Keira Knightley is another one whose basic smokey eye and pale lip I love, but who takes it too far sometimes. There are times she looks like she was in a brawl and got socked in both sockets. It's a matter of where you put it. I have closed-in eyes, so you can't see most of the shadow so I can get away with more, but when your dark eyeshadow reaches the browbone and all the way down to your undereye circles, it's time to pare it back.
30I love 60's winged liner, but I think Amy Winehouse takes it waaayyy to far.
31I use eyeliner everyday, but just a light line. The dramatic heavy look is great for people in the spotlight, but I think it would look a little silly one someone just out doing errands or whatever.
32I cannot apply it equally on both eyes. This would require professional help in my case.
33I luvvv angies look of the sexy dark eyes and nude lip, whereas gwens look seems too bold in the eyes and lips, even if the red lips are her signature style.

39I love the look, but I feel like it isn't very "daytime summer." But I'm in California, and it's hot and sweaty and sunny... too much makeup is just too much makeup in the summer time. Great for evenings, clubbing, and fancy affairs!
40love, love, love. i recommend liquid eyeliner because normal eyeliner is just too fiddly as the night wears on.
