Bear with me a moment while we talk about something a little unusual. A couple of years ago, I decided to make the switch from antiperspirant to deodorant. At the time, I was suffering from some pretty gross breakouts, and I had a crazy theory that antiperspirant, by blocking my sweat glands, was sending toxins to my face and turning them into pimples. (Like I said, it was a crazy theory.)
Anyway, when I went shopping for aluminum-free deodorants, I wasn't too excited by the, er, natural selection. Tom's of Maine left a slimy trail in my underarms, and the "crystal" deodorant irritated my skin. Then I tried Stella McCartney's deodorant (well, not hers—but you know what I mean). To find out how it works, read more
I love Stella eau de parfum because it's soft but complex, and the deodorant is just as pleasing. It's a roll-on, and the formula itself is a milky, watery liquid that takes about 30 seconds to dry. By design, a deodorant doesn't stop you from sweating, but after about a week I realized that I just don't sweat that much in the first place. Having softly scented underarms that match the fragrance on my wrists made me feel luxurious—or at least as luxurious as one can feel when we're talking about perspiration.
Stella Soft Deodorant is $19, and I've found it only at Nordstrom. As a sweat-blocker goes, it's pricey, but the cost is completely justified if you love the scent (which I do) and you treat it as part of your "fragrance wardrobe." Have you tried it? What do you think?

$19?! I'll stick to the crap I but at Target for $3.49.
1That sounds wonderful, bella.
2If it smells good, doesn't leave marks, and is longlasting, then its worth the price!
3Addidas makes an aluminum free deodorant, but apparently aluminum free doesn't work on me....
4Target had a special last week- 3 sticks of Degree (or Secret) for $5! I'm gonna stick to my cheapy cheap deodorant!
Nice theory by the way, Bella.
5Does it really help with the breakouts? If so, it's worth a shot!
6I have often worried about the chemicals in other deodorants but also don't like Tom's of Maine. This one sounds worth a try. Thanks!
7BELLA:
8Did the change in theory stop the zits??
Cravintheory: I tried the Adidas stuff, too! It didn't do much for me either.
As far as the zits are concerned, I don't think the switch in sweat-stoppers was the main reason my pimples cleared up, and I don't think my theory has any basis in reality. With that said, though, my breakouts did go down a little. Then again, I also started using an amazing face mask that I promise to write about soon. My guess is that the face mask did the trick, but I like to joke that deodorant is the key to a prettier complexion!
9I have to use an antiperspirant, and there are only two brands that work for me. But I'm with you about the roll on. It feels gross putting it on, but it's the best invisible pit stick out there.
10I started using Tom's of Maine because I was getting an allergic reaction to certain deodorants... turns out I'm also allergic to the stuff they use as perfumes in the Tom's of Maine as well! In fact, that reaction was much worse! Dove Ultimate Clear is good though.
11the best one i ever tried was the Soft & Dri with the power stripe. i swear, when i use it i don't sweat AT ALL. too bad they don't make it any more
now i'm back to Secret.........i guess. can't justify paying more than $5.
12I only wear deodorant or anti per. when I think about it. I'm lucky in that I don't stink when I sweat. I just don't like to when I know I am going to go to a power meeting, which triggers me to sweat. Even living in Florida, on average, I barely sweat. But some of them smell very good!
13Wow, I gotta get some of this. i LOVE stella mccartney!
14mmm Sounds like another new product to try!
15I use dove cool cucumber invisable anti-perspirant and it works great and smells
16OH MY GOD. i have to have this. i use stella perfume.
17that would never work in my hot, humid, southern climate. Anybody would sweat.
I back the Dove invisible - though before that I used Mitchum hydraclear.
18I love Soft & Dri and Ban.
I keep telling myself to look into the aluminum-free stuff, but I've never actually done it yet.
19I heart Stella! Must try, though it is a little pricey...
I use a WONDERFUL natural deo that works better than normal antiperspirant for me. It's called Funk Butter and I get it from oyinhandmade.com ($4.50). All of the other natural ones never worked on me, but FB is great and the Black Cedar Fig smell is divine.
20aww i dont think i can get it here in canada =[
21thanks for the tip, Chatoyante. I just bought some funk butter and cant wait to try it from all of the rave reviews.
22I hate all her scents so I doubt I'll like this one.
23$19 for a deodorant is a bit much for me - I like Mitchum Shower sent clear gel - never done me wrong!
