Picnik is a cool program for editing and aggregating photos online, especially if you don't have a copy of Photoshop handy. But recently, they introduced a lady-geared suite of features called Touch Up that has options like Sunless Tan, Highlights, Teeth Whitener, Blemish Fix, and my least favorite, Insta-Thin. (Because, you know, we girls always want to be thin.)
I decided to try it because I find the whole photo-editing thing dubious; I understand that this stuff's an accepted part of our culture, but I'm just saying that I don't think it's so great for our psyches to worry about "perfection." To find out what my experience was like, just read more.
Here's the long and short of it: Touch Up was fun to play with, but more in a "What would I look like with bright pink lipstick and blond highlights?" kind of way than a "OMG, I need to look hotttt on Facebook now" kind of way, which actually makes me like it more. And the Insta-Thin feature, which I can't stand in principle, is just goofy in practice.
I also value a good Blemish Fix, and I have to admit that the Sunless Tan is pretty fun. I don't think the brave volunteer whose picture I used looks prettier per se, but she does look different in an entertaining way. So my verdict on this one is that it's harmless fun, but that perhaps its makers need to re-evaluate the terms and ideas they use to sell women on their product.

you know whats weird and really messed up? the company that takes school pictures is offering teeth whitening, even skin tone, blemish remover, scar remover, and can take away fly aways from your hair from your yearbook picture for 12 extra dollars.
1That is so weird. I look super dorky in my school photos, but looking back, I wouldn't have it any other way. There's something really endearing about those awkward, gawky years; I look back as an adult and think, "Aw, poor nerdy baby Bella. How endearingly awkward." It's a nice reminder to be less hard on myself.
2Your brave volunteer is stunning, both before and after! I'm jealous!
3I agree with The Italian Jem.
I REALLY adore the porcelain skin 'before'.
4so looking yellow is better than looking rosy? I'd much rather be a rosy person than look like I have anemia
5About first comment, yup that's definitely true. If you look at the picture her right arm is like scarily thin in the right one.
6She looks much more radiant and beautiful without the spray tan! I wish this trend would go away.
7my senior year pics in highschool were touched up- but really just skin- removing blemishes, which i was all for. there were no options to tan, whiten, shrink or anything else
8thanks for the website, might use in a rush if I want to upload some pics online and don't have to worry about opening up photoshop and making a thousand layers.
