I'd probably whine about it to myself later, but it's their job and it'd be my fault for not planning better and keeping the toiletries in my checked bags!

if it came down to it, i'd just check my bag instead. a couple of times i went through security, they let me pass even though not all my "liquids" (ummm...lipgloss is NOT a liquid) didn't fit in my baggie. i offered to put the stuff in my husband's baggie, if there was room, but they said it was OK.

I know its their job and all - but my la mer concentrate is expensive! I think a hissy fit is the less mature and sane thing to do, but I doubt I would do that. I probably would just cry

I would just buy some new makeup at my destination. My only carry-ons would be lipbalm, compact, and eyelash curler. The rest I'd keep in my luggage.

I'd ask "can I just take it back to my car?" Some of that stuff is too expensive just to trash. I know they have picky rules, and that's fine, but some people do not fly all the time and are not abreast on the rules. And sometimes, you might think something is ok but they tell you it's not.

Oh, and I guess if I had Jess's money, I would be calm about it (I'd just buy new stuff whenever I got to where I was going) but some of us don't have that luxury.

I remember when the rule first came out you were not allowed to bring any liquids on board whatsoever. Of course I tried to sneak 2 mac lipglasses in my handbag and a security lady thoroughly searched my bag, found them and threw them away and went on to tell me "tisk tisk." Yeah lip gloss isn't that expensive, I shouldn't have had them, you can feel free to throw my lip gloss away but to scold me like I'm 5 year-old irked me!

I flew 16 times in 11 months. You get used to knowing what to pack and what not to pack. They are just doing their job. They trust you as far as they can throw you. It is sad if you throw a hissy fit over your shampoo. You can always buy it when you land at your destination.

Airport security isn't a joke. If it's the rule, you have to comply or just don't fly.

I've had security take stuff from me that was under 3oz. and I think the woman just added it to the new Chanel perfume she wiped because she liked the color of the lipgloss, too. Seriously. Putting it in the secret stash. I mean what do they do with all of that stuff?

Uh, read the regulations and follow them. Just cause you want to bring your lipgloss on the plane doesn't make you special. Arguing with security makes you look pathetic, and it holds up the rest of us that manage to follow the rules.

My last flight was during the major liquid restrictions. I had to surrender my chapstick trying to get fly back to the US from England. The FAA regulations allowed it, but the European authorities did not. It made me sad (because my lips were super, super dry and cracked), but the security lady was only trying to do her job. Blame the people who make the rules and the bombers who were the cause of them.

I actually decided to check a bag instead of giving up my makeup. I had to go back to the counter check the bag and then redo security. It was a pain but I didn't have to throw anything away.

It so would not be worth being denied boarding on the flight! Those security guys can make your life very, very miserable so just hand over the goods and call it a day!

I actually threw a fit because I forgot all about it on my way back to LA from San Francisco (security didn't care on my way to SF). My boyfriend ended up calming me down by suggesting we check our bags instead. Best idea ever!

I agree with redegg, sometimes the security people confiscate items they want for themselves. So on another trip from overseas when I knew the lady wanted to keep my perfume, before she could put it on the "toss" pile, I opened my perfume and dumped it in the trash can next to her. Ha! Spiteful little me...

Jessica's bag isn't even compliant-- I'm a frequent flier and almost certain that you can only have a quart bag and that's definitely a gallon. I made that mistake right after the regulations were put in place and I had a limited edition Bobbi Brown lip gloss (that color was all sold out everywhere-- damn!) and a mascara swiped from me. If you're really desperate and your lip gloss is in a plastic container you could always just put it in your pocket and make sure you're not wearing any metal so you don't set off the metal detector and have to get patted down. That's what the lady sitting next to me did.

I'd throw a fit. I'm so glad my flying days are over!! It was bad enough having to make adjustments after 9/11, having to take off your shoes and whatnot, but this whole makeup thing is really out of hand. These people really have no idea what they're doing. Airport security is BS.

What's BS is the reason they had to up security. Don't blame TSA.
Besides, if you follow rules, then there's no trouble.

At WalMart, they have these great little things called travel bottles. That way if you have anything in a bottle larger than 3 oz, you can put it in the bottle. Also in that department (near the trial size products in health and beauty), they have new travel baggies. They're one quart like regulation, but they're longer and built to fit those bottles.

It's your own fault if you get your stuff confiscated for not following rules. The TSA agents are real people that are not out to get you. Sometimes they're actually pretty lenient and looking to help.
There are only a handful that make the rest look bad.

And Peony, I noticed that first thing. I was all, "aw no she didn't."

I just took a trip to the Phils. and instead of tossing my pricey lotions and creams, I had them checked-in instead.

One more thing:
If you're planning on checking your liquids, you should still put them in a plastic bag. When you're up in the air, there's a lot of pressure and may cause items to pop and leak. It's no fun to have shampoo or hairspray all over your clothes.

how about turning around and not getting on the flight? I kid, I kid.

Sorry if that came off nasty. I fly a LOT. During the school year, it's twice a month or more... I just get annoyed when people make security "me me me"

It totally depends what I would have to throw away but very little comes between me and my makeup.....(I think I have a problem is there a makeup lovers anonymous?)

i would just check my stuff...but I have never had a problem when I travel--half the time people show up with out ziplock bags and they havent said anything. They just dump there stuff in those plastic containers and go through the metal detector...I mean I have seen a few things that have been thrown away like water bottles--shaving gel etc etc...but come on! If you dont know by now, then you need to read up on stuff going on today!

uhhh...the hissy fit (and the humiliation and embarrassment from getting your items confiscated as well as for your reaction) would've been easily prevented if youd done your research BEFORE going on the plane!

I'd make sure to pack travel sizes -- no way I'm throwing out perfectly good makeup.

Check them in... that is what I do. Nothing more annoying that having to wait in luggage claim but all for beauty....

I've taken to checking my makeup, except a few essentials in my checked luggage, risky, I know, but now way in hell am I throwing out my cosmetics, security risks or not, somethings are just wrong!

I would definitely leave any makeup that was 3 oz or over in my checked bags. However, I have recently brought things through security (on about 3 or 4 occasions) that were over 3 oz (like 3.1 or 3.5) such as a little bottle of contact solution (the only one I could find in the store) and they didn't confiscate it - although I am ALWAYS completely ready to throw it away if asked to. I usually need my contact solution for the plane, and the bottle is usually half empty anyways since I use that one for travelling, so I dont' care if they want me to throw it away. It's what Vogue was talking about earlier though, when they scold you or are patronising or condescending - that's super annoying. That happened to me when I was going through security, they have this checkpoint right before where they check your boarding pass and passport. I was preparing by taking out my laptop so I wouldn't have to fuss when I got up to the machine and the woman started yelling, "ONLY 2 CARRY ON ITEMS PER PERSON!" and I looked at her calmly and said, "I'm just taking out my laptop to put in the tray" and she flipped out and said I couldn't go past her if I had my laptop in my hands so I put my laptop back in my bag, she checked my passport, I walked two feet in front of her and took it out again. Since I had to! Jeeez. Oh well, TSA is not exactly trained for customer service, as it's not their first priority, it's safety of other passengers blah blah blah ...

Girls i wanna ask you something since i didn't fly after the regulations were put in place.

-Can we put full size liquids (like toniques, eye makeup removers...) in our luggage? So i mean the bag which is not staying with us during the flight.

I won't need shampoos, toniques before i land, so i think i can put them in my luggage if there won't be any problem...

Yes, Chiquita. Anything that is bigger than 3 oz should go in your checked luggage (the one that goes under the plane), and they won't confiscate it.

check it in, it's just not worth the hassle.

i did say calmly hand them over because 1, its for everyones safty and thats the main thing, 2. they're only doing theyre job and 3. i would rather they b safe than sorry, i wouldnt want to get blown up just so everyone can wear make up. but i know id b pissed off. i dont want my makeup taken away, but can u take mascara or a eye pencil or smthing? and also can u still buy makeup on the plane?

o and also if the makeup can b just put in ur suitcase to go under the plane cant terrorists still blow up the plane? they dont need the bomb right with them to detinate it, and they do it with liquids now dont they?

haha, when i was going through security in Puerto Rico, a girl was standing at the end, with 3 bottles of liqour, make up, shampoo, perfume, toiletries, etc....and they were throwing IT ALL away. she was so pissed and kept grbbing for it, and the security lady kept swatting her hand away haha. sucks.

yeah i throw a hissy fit. i had my christian dior lipgloss taken away. WTF? since when can you take down a plane with lipgloss? give me a break..

I went to california and I had some tressemme hair styling products in my suitcase. They were checked before they went on the plane. When I got to cali, my suitcase was leaking. I opened it up, and the damn security people didn't even close the liquids!!! Most things were soaked. At least tressemme is cheap.

i read up on the regs. generally don't care except when traveling to europe, etc. the longer the flight the more you miss lotion, lip balm, toothpaste and face moisturizer. due to connections, i prefer to travel with my bag - there's nothing worse than traveling for hours and then arriving at your hotel with no bag. those are the times when it's hard for me to edit my make up for carry on.

Calmly hand over your products and understand that security is just doing its job.

They'd all be travel size anyway.

Absolutely do NOT throw a hissy fit!! The last thing you need it to be dragged away by security guards over a bottle of shampoo.

I would die if I had to toss out my make up! I'm sure I would give in because I wouldn't want to be arrested or miss my flight but it'd be a sad sad day.
