Last night at the New York premiere of Hairspray, Liza Minnelli showed up to support her showbiz friends and to catch a viewing. Something I hadn't noticed before is that her eyebrows barely have any hair—perhaps the result of over-waxing, or just a style statement? What are your thoughts on drawn-in brows?

Did anyone see her sheer pants....http://www.tmz.com/2007/07/17/liza-minnelli-sheer-terror/
things that make you go ughhh
1I think it's awful. Why do so many women keep overplucking their eyebrows??
2Yeah it is bad. It reminds me of women in their 70's who are losing their hair, so they draw them on. Maybe that's the case with Liza.
3My friend does it and i just want to erase it off
4of her it looks horrible. The pencil is too dark too..arrghhhh!!!!!
I fill mine in sometimes for nights out, to define my brows - not with a pencil though, with my Benefit eyebrow kit. xo
5yes fab, thats AOK but man I just want to do so many eyebrow makeovers!!! walking down the street, on the train ect. lol
6Filling in your brows is ok - but completely waxing/shaving them off and then drawing them in is NOT! I once sat down to speak with a woman who had drawn in eyebrows that looked almost clownish, they were so overdone - she looked permanently surprised. I was so distracted, I couldn't focus on what she was saying!
7drawing in your eyebrows is an art form. you have to do it just right so it looks natural. i have really light eyebrows so i have to draw them in so it looks i have some. i've tried the brow shadow but i actually prefer the pencil. so i think it only works when you can barely tell.
8That doesn't look natural.
I've seen some drawn in ones that were more natural. It was a necessity since the girl overplucked.
9Only if you have thin brows, and as long as it's natural looking.
10I had a friend who had tattood eyebrows and she drew them in over that. I talked shizz about it with another friend and wondered why she thought that was attractive. Then, the friend happened to mention one day in a conversation that her eyebrows had fallen out due to her lupus or the treatment of her lupus (I can't remember which) and so she had them tattooed. And I realized then and there I was going to hell and I've never again judged someone with drawn on eyebrows.
So, my lips are zipped on this pic.
11There's nothing wrong with filling in eyebrows... I have sparse patches in my eyebrows, and if I do nothing to them, it looks very unnatural. Then again, I am not drawing myself eyebrows, just filling in what I already have. I've had the best luck with Anastasia brow powder or Smashbox powder... pencils always look waxy and rub off on anything that touches your face!
12I think it looks terrible and everyone can definitely tell.
13horrible... if you have to do it make sure you get it done right, and always ask a good friend for their opinion before you step out in public!!!!
14Looks terrible, I suppose if you've got thin brows and just do something simple and light it's fine but that is WAY over the top. She looks like a cartoon character.
15i HATE these!! unfortunately my mum always seem to hang around old women who draw in their eyebrows, so im always around it =[
16fill in vs drawn in is so completely different. fill in is a light shading and drawn in makes you look like a clown with all the thick penciling in. it reminds me of how kids color all thick and dark and repeatedly over the same area.
17If you have very thin/sparse brows *naturally* (including disease), then drawing them on makes sense. The ladies I know in this boat have usually learned how to do it well and have all the right tools and such--as well as patience--for it.
However, in my opinion, if someone shaves them off because she thinks it will be "easier" to draw 'em on, she probably isn't the sort to take the time to draw them properly.
18For the most part I think shaved off/drawn on brows look awful, but I think it is because the women using (abusing?) this trend women just have no idea what a natural brow should look like. I have seen ONE WOMAN master the art of drawing on her brow, but the rest of her make up is always impeccable, too. I don't really understand the trend, frankly.. how hard is it to groom and fill? Seriously?
19Once, when I was in third grade I went through a phase where I was over consious about my eybrows. One day during lunch break (I used to go home for lunch) I was staring at the mirror and decided if I didn't do something my brows would grow bushy and looks like a mans, so I took my mom's razor blade, and shaved both of my eyebrows off. My nanny saw me and had a fit and every morining she would draw in eyebrows before school this went on until slowly my eyebrows grew back. But she made the drawn on eyebrows look comepletly natural. Needless to say, Liza Minelli with those eybrows looks like a wax figure of herself.
20*overly concious
21I think it looks especially silly on younger women but I do know that some women age their hair gets thinner and more sparse, when you take into consideration all of the waxing and tweezing that happens over time....so I wouldn't be too hard on Liza
22one of my girlfriends, who is possibly one of the most physically and mentally beautiful people you will ever meet, draws on her DARK BROWN eyebrows. when people talk about her, they refer to her (if they can't remember her name) as "the girl with the eyebrows". we're working on it -- she likes mine so i am showing her how to tweeze correctly and shade with powder.
23At my school, there are these girls called "chongas" which are like ghetto-fabulous tacky girls who think their "sexy" (watch the "chongalicious" video on YouTube to get a better idea.) Anyway...all of them either shave off their eyebrows and draw them on or put concealer over their real ones and draw over. It's really gross.
24Well it can be scary unless it is done right.
25uuuugh, i hate drawn in brows! i think they look awful..one of my very good friends had they lasered off and now she draws them in everyday, i think it looks so bad, but i mean..what's she going to do about it now? She seems to think it looks good..and i tell her not to, she'll have no eyebrows! what kind of an option is that?! i do despise this look though.
26not a fan, it irritates me when people have such obviously drawn in lines..lightly filling in them is ok-although i dont-but drawn on...no no
27It just looks too fake and many times too harsh!
28In Liza Minelli's case, it's a definite YUK! I think it can be done artfully and made to look natural, if done right. My mom went through chemo last year and had to do it, but hers never looked bad! It's just like any other makeup - it can look freakishly overdone, or pretty and natural.
29I don't like it.I think it looks scary.
30eek
31horrific.
32HIDEOUS! She must've gone in with Michael and the rest of the bankrupt, whacked-out Jackson clan for a group discount on Eyebrow tattooing! You know how that turned out for LaToya and company....
33You never know why people draw in their eyebrows. Due to a health problem when I was younger, I haven't had any eyebrows in a long time. I have dark brown hair, so my brows have to be somewhat dark. I am good with makeup so mine look pretty good, though I am still very self conscious about them. It took me a long time to feel attractive with drawn-on brows.
I am constantly amazed at how many people feel they have the right to comment on them: from "Do you shave your brows off?- why would you do that??" to "Why don't you have any brows- that's weird" and a million other comments that they probably never thought about saying. They affected me, and my self esteem and it took a long time to be able to blow people off with those sort of things. So PLEASE just be thoughtful about what you say to people. Think whatever you want, but asking questions and openly commenting about someone's face... take a little time to think it through first.
34I fill mine in a little because I naturally have some slightly bare spots, but completley drawn on brows make me cringe, I've never seen someone make it look good.
35wasn't this like so early 90's?
36Simply Awful.
37Awful and then you run the rish of traumatizing those around you when you have a rough morning and forget to draw them. Humans don't look right with out eyebrows.
38I say only if you NEED to- if for some reason you don't have eyebrow hair (like Jennifer 76 mentioned of someone she knows) then a little defining is acceptable.
39I fill mine in a bit with a pencil but make sure to avoid the "drawn" effect.
I had a bad waxing incident that literally stunted the ends of my brows from growing back in. They look "okay" but not enough where I feel confident enough to go out of the house without trying to fill them in with my MAC brow pencil a bit.
I think shaving them off to draw them on is a little much but there are plenty of people in the world with just sparse or light brows who I think filling them in with pencil is perfectly acceptable.
40If you're using a brow kit and extra care, they shouldn't look drawn in. I remember seeing this lady who had them shaved off and tatooed on her face. It was not cute at all!
41Ewwwwwwwww I hate them they look so unnatural!!!
42I don't think shaving off your eyebrows and replacing them with drawn-on ones is a good look for anyone, besides drag queens and amanda palmer: http://www.auralminority.com/Resources/dresden2a.jpeg
I think her eyebrows are totally fabulous, and would totally try it, if I thought I could pull it off.
43It is only fine when you are old and don't have any left.
44i knew girls in highschool who would shave their eyebrows and replace it with a cartoonish line. i always want to smudge them...
45My eyes brows have bare spots and so I fill them in with a pencil and give them a nice natural shape that follows my natural arch. Sometimes I accidently go overboard but I try to keep it simple. I want Rogaine for them so they are just naturally thick. I'd kil for thick eyebrows, I bet by the time I am 30 they all will have fallen out. It sucks, but I am good with a pencil.
46A friend of mine lost all her eyebrows when she was pregnant and they never grew back. It's really a shame because it looks so awful. I have very light hair on my brows so I need to darken it, but if my face looks different when I'm done it's too dark.
47eyebrows are such a curious thing... i had a friend in hs who had terrible (natural) eyebrows. they looked.. really bad. so she had them waxed and tattooed on, which at first, looked ridiculous because they were so dark, but eventually, they lightened up and looked a lot better on her face than her natural ones. in fact.. i think a lot of asian women have tattooed eyebrows. looks good from far away, but up close, really.. weird and bald looking.
i've played with a bunch of different eyebrow shapes on my own face, and as much as i wish i could tweeze and shade my eyebrows to match those glamorous arch stencils that come with the anastasia kits... they look ridiculous on me!
completely drawn on eyebrows? a definite no if they come out too obvious, dark, and waxy. i definitely prefer filling in with a brow powder.
48Wow. I'm sort of amazed that there are so many people comments from people that don't realize how potentially rude it is to bash people whose eyebrows are "shaved off." They're not always shaved. There's a such thing as a DISEASE.
49Would you make fun of a woman who had a breast removed due to cancer?
Same thing.
oops. *so many comments from people
Where is my head?
