Ever get completely freaked out by all of the hair in your drain at the end of a shower? Or how about the excessive amount of strands that are left in your brush each day? Here's the scoop on that will hopefully shed some light onto the subject of thinning hair.
Glamour magazine reports that about 43 million American women in their 20s and 30s suffer from substantial hair loss. Due to all of the over-processing, (i.e., coloring, ironing, straightening, blow drying), people are putting way too much stress on their strands.
Oh and extensions? Fuggetaboutit—those are the enemy if your hair is thinning. They can cause serious breakage at the roots where regrowth occurs.
The average person should lose about 100 strands of hair per day. Stress, going off of birth control, wearing tight ponytails and having a baby can all cause hair loss, as can poor nutrition. Since there is such a strong desire to be thin, many young women aren't eating a well-balanced diet. But don't panic. Here's what to do.
Remember that hair is fragile, so if you can, skip using hot tools. Only when necessary, dry hair on a warm setting and don't tug on your hair with a harsh brush. Eat more foods that contain iron, protein, zinc and biotin, and take the necessary measures to reduce your stress level.
If these tactics aren't helping, I suggest consulting a dermatologist. Ask for a hair and scalp analysis when you make your appointment. Also, please keep in mind that while thinning hair is not the end of the world, it could be a symptom of a more serious health condition. Please listen to your body and take care of your hair.

Great post!
1I shed SO bad, but I think it's mostly due to stress. The only part that bothers me is the hair ALL over my bathroom floor. I'm always having to vacuum, and it's such a pain.
2I shed bad too hahaha. But, I talked to my stylist, and he recommended that I take a daily muilt-vitamin. And you know what, my hair has never been healthier! It honestly works!
3I'm glad I'm not alone here.. I used to have really coarse, thick hair.. and when I reached 13 or 14.. my hair started shedding like crazy... and my hair has been so fine and soft.. people compliment me a lot for it.. but I have no volume and hair is everywhere... Phytophanere is great.. EXPENSIVE though.. I went on a regimen of at least 7 hours of sleep, a lot of protein, and a lot of vitamins.. and I still shed but my hair looks better.. i think.
4i shed soooo much hair its starting to get embarrassing..but i dont think i have anything to worry about yet(im only 20) and my father still has a full set of VERY VERY thick hair that ive inherited from him.so hopefully ive got his hair genes
5Yah I shed a lot too, but I think it's still a normal amount. Great post!
6thanks for posting this- i will try to use some of these tips.
7FB1977, I hate when I see that hair on the bathroom floor. I feel like I'm going to be bald soon. lol! *knocks on wood*
8eat less sugar
9i want my hair back : (
my hair doesn't shed at all, but it's baby-fine and slowly thinning... : ( boo hoo!
10I'm a constant shedder, but my hair is thick so I have a lot more hair to lose to begin with. I also tend to wear my hair in loose ponytails, so I know I am causing additional breakage and probably pulling a few hairs out of my crown too.
