Since it's Beach Week here at BellaSugar, I thought I'd give you a chance to test your knowledge about sunscreen. We all know that we should wear it every day, but there are a lot of myths surrounding the stuff. So slather on your zinc oxide, sharpen your pencils (or, well, your mouse-clicking skills) and take the quiz!

Bella- thanks for the quiz, but here is another question posed before in a different post that I don't think got answered (?)
1I understand reapplying every few hours- but do we reapply because the lotion/sunscreen has actually physically worn off over time, sweat, water, etc... OR does the actual protection have a 'half-life' and is no longer active inside the lotion???
Hope that is clear.
One more thing... what about facial moisturizers? Are you supposed to reapply them after a few hours as well? Wouldn't that mean a whole reapplication of makeup as well? I've never seen that stated so that's why I bring up the other questions. Inquiring mind(s?) want to know....
thanks
I did 4 correct ....I though UVS, UVB and UBS are the same
25 out of 6, not bad..
3I got them all right! I'm surprised...
4Hey Sofi,
That's a good question. Oddly enough, I just came from interviewing a dermatologist. You'll love the interview — should be up in a week or two.
Anyway, from what I understand, the re-application is because sweat and water can lessen the efficacy of sunscreen. So you should definitely re-apply after that. Otherwise, it's more a matter of how much sun exposure you have. For instance, if you are wearing SPF 30 and just commuting to work, I don't think you need to reapply in your workplace. You won't be exposed to a lot of sun. But if you'll be outside all day, your total exposure is increased — so more rays will reach you, and you'll need to keep reapplying to keep your SPF up.
Hope this helps! BTW, the dermatologist guessed I was seven years younger than I really am... so wearing sunblock will definitely help your skin stay young!
5Wow Bella! 7 years younger...I am glad that I always wear sunscreen, now only if I could get my husband too!
6Oh, I know. I keep telling Mr. Bella to wear it, but I suspect he thinks it's foofy. "You just wait until we're in our 60s," I tell him. "People will think you have a trophy wife!" Of course, he thinks this is wonderful and doesn't see the flip side—that I will be holding hands with the picture of Dorian Gray! Ha ha ha.
7I got 4 out 6; I got the first two wrong. Whenever I go out I wear SPF 50; If I'm in a rush I put on at least SPF 15. I'm not going to risk getting skin cancer if I know I can help prevent it in less than 5 minutes.
8Hey Bella-
9Thanks! 7 years younger is fantastic!! I am sure the hubby always thought he had a trophy wife. Mine will not wear it either and even gets annoyed sometimes if I get obsessive about the kiddies wearing and reapplying. Men, one day they'll get what all the fuss is about (hopefully soon).
whew ... considering I'm an esthetician, I'm glad I got all of them right!
10Hum... for some reason, I can't get to the quiz. Bummer!

11Yeah, five out of six for me, which is pretty good. Can never have too much sun protection. Tans are ugly, wrinkle and mole/spot free skin is beautiful!
