Getting pampered at the salon is one of life's little pleasures, from the massage at the shampoo bowl to the precision cut down to the final blow-dry and style. Recently, a co-worker and I were chatting about our salon visits, particularly the "style" portion of the service.
Both of us agreed that while we might love the results of our actual haircut and/or color, neither one of us are ever really all that excited about the way the look was finished. This often results in some immediate restyling upon exiting the salon's door. (Once we're out of sight from the stylist's view, of course.) Call us picky or creatures of habit, I suppose. What about you? Do you leave the salon with a bounce in your step, happy with the way your hair was styled, or do you end up doing a little makeshift salon action the minute you leave?

The only time my hair is ever styled is after I leave the salon!
P.S. She does a great job!
My hair usually looks great when I leave the salon, I can never do it the same way.
The blowout is always way better that what I can hope to do myself - I usually try not touching my hair until absolutely necessary (usually when I go to bed
)
Not anymore, because my new stylist always styles my hair very well. But my old stylist always used to make my hair look too "pretty." Big waves, swoopy bangs, etc. I prefer a shaggier look and I'd always have to redo it when I left.
Usually I leave it but last time I did. I got home, washed it and gave it a blowout that looked better than before.
I'm a low maintenance girl so I leave the salon with wet hair..
Yes. They always insist on blow-drying it with a round brush and curling the ends under. I really don't know why they do that. It looks terrible! And I go to a fairly high end salon. . .only one stylist has ever asked me how I usually style it at the end of the cut.
they usually get the part wrong, thats the biggest issue for me!
i've only done that with one stylist. her approach was very old school (think no blow dryers, flat irons) and i liked that. i always got a roller set to give me tons of volume. but she would style it as a bouffant. so once i left the salon and was in my car. i would just run my fingers through my hair a bit to release the curl.
My stylist know me well, so he always styles it perfectly. I wish I could style it as well as him!
i used to do that every single time, but then i switched stylists and she always does it how i like it.
My old stylist made my hair too poofy and parted it funny, so I always restyled it. But my new guy that I've been using this summer is fantastic and styles it so well- I love it every time.
I don't get this. If you don't like how your stylist styled your hair, how about telling her so she can get it right?
I am not a great hair stylist at all so when it is styled I leave it!
my stylist does a great job with it,so i enjoyed it as long as i'm able to
I'm mostly ok with how my stylist cuts my hair (I'm picky about this), but the styling part is so wrong. She doesn't really understand my hair and I think she just styles it how she would style her own hair, in the 80s!! -- BAD IDEA considering her hair is naturally wavy and frizzy and mine is naturally fine, non-frizzy, but I have a Japanese perm. So basically, I have to leave the salon looking like I came out of the 80s because she likes to style out my permed hair into a giant poof. Awful!! And I've tried to explain to her how to properly style it but she doesn't get it.
im with pink2022, i just have to fix the part--everything else is so much better then i could ever do!
I usually love how my stylist does my hair. Every now and then the bangs may be pulled too far forward that they become a distraction when trying to work - not that they didn't look great, just weren't practical once I got to work.
I've become friends with my stylist over the past 7 years of going to her, and she and I meet for lunch on Sundays sometimes. I get so nervous that that will be the one day I have a bad hair day and that it will be styled bad and that I'll be letting her down on all the effort she puts into my hair (it takes her two hours to color/highlight and cut). I've finally come to realize that she knows and respects that I may style it slightly different from how she did it, especially as it grows out inbetween visits.
I love the way my stylist cuts and blow drys my hair. But he also likes to straighten my hair so if there's time, I let him. I love how soft it is after he straightens it but not the flatness. I like a little volume and movement so I usually add just a touch of texturizing cream.
my old stylist i used a few years ago would always end up curling the ends, making me look about 5 years younger (and when you are 16, that's not what you are going for!). but now that i found a great place [aveda institute!] i never have to fix the end result!
Yesss! Always takes me a few days to be adjusted to the haircut, but it makes me so sad when I think the cut turned out ugly cause the styling is so bad. This happens to me at every salon.
My hair guy always want to spike me straight up in the front and I just don't do that.. so I more judge the length on top and not the spikes, color of course, and then when I get to the car, mash it down and re-pump it up.
Yes. Pretty much every time. I usually bring in a pic from a magazine to show what sort of layers, etc, I want, and they attempt to copy the picture exactly with no regard to my style/face shape/etc. Usually this involves backcombing my hair at the crown, attacking the whole thing with hairspray, drastically changing the part, and other ridiculousness, even though I tell them I'm a wash-and-wear sort of girl. Then they try to sell me all 10 products that they used. I always get home and wash everything out immediately. Frankly, I prefer my hair as it grows out; over the years, I've come to hate going to salons. And I have fine, long, straight hair...it's not especially complicated. Sigh. :/
I go every week for a wash and set. I just let them do what they want & in the car, I fix it the way I want. Why they insist on bangs & oddly placed parts is beyond me, since I never come in with my hair like that. But I like the owner & all the ladies there. Been going there for over 15 years.
Ialways have to re-style it, no matter what salon or the stylist. For one i'm half arab half white, so my hair came out to this weird segregated type hair, part kinky, party curly and part straight. The stylists can't ever get it right, i end up with frizzy fluff for hair everytime i leave so i just tell them to leave it wet now and ill style it on my own.
My old stylist (back in NJ) did it perfectly every time. However, ever since I moved away I haven't been able to find anyone who knows how to style it. So I immediately freak out once my hair is done, go home, wash it, and restyle to find it's okay ;]
PHEW!
All I pretty much have my stylist do is straighten it pin-straight which I completely love. As someone mentioned, I try not to touch it because I can never get that again after I leave!
I don't even like them to dry my hair. I let my hair air dry and the way the straighten my hair is terrible. Thanks, but no thanks.
I've been to salon today and I left absolutely happy with my final look. Like Leila07 I do not always like this "curling the ends under" thing, so after it's done I ask to straighten the ends, if needed. But it depends on the haircut - sometimes curled ends look great.
If I didn't like my hair style, I would ask the stylist to redo it before leaving.
No, I like to run home and wash it. I like how a new haircut looks after the first hair wash. My hair settles into the new haircut better (after the first wash).
I usually like it EXCEPT for the bangs. He poofs them up every time, and I have to clip them to the side until I wash it.
when i leave the salon, my hair FEELS amazing, but she puts so many styling products in it that it weighs my hair down. i like volume in my hair, normal, clean hair volume.
I don't quite get the love most stylists seem to have for styling my bangs down into my eyes. Drives me bonkers. The girl I go to now gets it for the most part, but I can tell the eye-sweep thing is ingrained...she starts out styling it that way, then you can almost see the moment when she remembers that that drives me loony and adjusts the sweep. She's mah guuuurl
I guess I'm the only one that can't stand hair all over me? I rush home immediately and shower, then I style it how I want it, which is wash and go...
My hair is very wavy/frizzy, and I've yet to meet a stylist who can do a blow-out/flat ironing and get it as smooth as I do at home. They even let me leave the salon with my roots still damp, and guess what happens. A mess. So I ALWAYS have to go home right after and smooth out several spots myself. Frustrating!
