Have you ever woken up and your eyes are practically swollen shut? They are puffy and tender and you're not sure why. Could it be an allergic reaction to something—or perhaps it was just that big bag of salty popcorn you downed on your movie date last night? Here's a quick fix for you:
Take out your tube of Preparation H Hemorrhoid Ointment and dot a little bit around your orbital eye area. Pat gently using your ring finger, and in no time at all the puffiness will dissipate and you can wave your baggy eyes goodbye! This is an age-old remedy that models have been using for years. In fact, in Diane Iron's book, The World’s Best Kept Beauty Secrets, she claims that supermodels swear by hemorrhoid cream to maintain taught and youthful-looking eyes.

The active ingredient in Preparation H is phenylephrine, which is believed to tighten skin by temporarily constricting blood vessels and shrinking its tissue. Please note: This is not recommended for those of you with sensitive skin, as it can irritate the gentle and thin area around your eyes. Unfortunately this will only work really well in other countries; in the US, we don't have the active ingredient that majorly reduces swelling anymore, it got taken out a few years ago if I remember correctly. I think it will work a little bit still, but not as well as the old formulas.
1Um -- I'm not keen on using something meant for my booty on my eye area. Doesn't seem kosher.
2Yea this is my trick . And after that, I dab on my Benefit Oh La Lift. It works
3I've actually heard of the Prep H trick before.
4I guess Bobby Brown WAS onto something... LOL
5I'm going to try this.
Isn't hydrocortisone supposed to do this as well? I checked out the ingredients and therre is 0.25% phenyephrine. Does anyone know how much is allowed overseas and are we really getting a "watered-down" version?
6I've heard of this however I haven't tried it yet. I want to though, it seems like a great beauty trick.
7A dermatologist once told me to NEVER do this! He said that Prep H, if used often, will actually thin the skin around one's eyes, so that as one ages the skin will darken and wrinkle more than if Prep H had not been used. I opted to use Benefit Depuffing Action Eye Gel. It costs more but since I am older and more concerned about my skin, I'd rather be safe than sorry!
8this tip makes me hands itch to try!
9myownworstcritic is right... If a product has steroids in it, usually it's cortisone or hydro-cortisone, they WILL thin the skin with prolonged use, ESPECIALLY on delicate areas like the eyes. Be cautious...
10Yup - myownworstcritic and xlove33 are right. It's a quick fix for the baggy eyes, but in the long run, you're going to have older, darker, saggier skin to take care of.
11i was told that - it doesn't de-puff anymore. US version is "watered down". I tried it before my engagement party - didn't do anything for me or my friends.
12it doesn't sound like it would be that good to use every day.
13I've heard so much about using this...maybe I should give it a try.
14I've heard this trick tons of times, never tried it though, I don't have any on hand and it's a little expensive to buy just for this reason (I'm cheap like that though)
15heard of this before but forgot! thanks... i always look like a zombie first few hours of the day (aka NOW)
16It will work for about ten minutes top. I've worked backstage doing makeup and the models do use it... but it has to be reapplied to continue to work
17um, sounds wrong.
18While I have never tried this, I have heard of the whole hemorrhoidal products for eye puffiness. Different products may contain different ingredients, but most tend to try out areas or constrict blood vessels. If you're going to try it, be sure it doesn't get into your eye! Ointments get really messy especially.
As a side note: phenylephrine constricts blood vessels and is often found in over-the-counter oral decongestants. It helps constrict the vessels in the nose, which helps alleviate congestion. Hydrocortisone is a steroid used topically for inflammation--itching and redness mostly. With prolonged use, it will cause the skin to get thinner or atrophy.
