I'm wiggin' out today. First, I saw Britney the cover of next month's (generously Photoshopped) Allure, and was entranced by her hair. Of course, it's a wig—but it looks natural and luxurious, and quite beautiful. On the other end of the spectrum are these hilarious dog wigs, which—well, you just have to see for yourself.
This got me thinking about wigs in general. I've only worn them for Halloween (Supergirl, Tippi Hedren in The Birds), so they've been ten-dollar cheapies that looked obviously fake. But high-quality wigs, which are often made of human hair, are convincing and cool. I think it would be fun to try out a Louise Brooks bob one day, then try a Farrah Fawcett feathered 'do the next. And of course, for women who've lost their hair because of cancer treatments, wigs can provide comfort and confidence (just ask Beautiful Lengths spokesperson Hilary Swank, who's growing out her hair for a wig right now). So I want to know: Would you wear a wig outside of a costume? And if so, what would you wear?

Wow, you are right--that is amazing photoshopping. I'd love to see the before and after
1I'll see you and raise you... I would *pay* to see the before and after.
2No wigs unless I had alopecia or cancer -- maybe not even then. Bald chicks can be hot.
3And oh yeah, Allure? Nobody believes she looked like that. Save the cover for a model and not for nutbags who walk out of the photo shoot.
4i'd wear a wig if i lost my hair due to chemo. otherwise, no thanks. i think they look too fake. plus, i doubt i could get all of my hair under a wig anyway.
5Maybe for fun...try something different for one night when I go out, but in general, nah.
I can't wait for the day when a magazine opts to NOT photoshop the model/actress/singer on the cover.
6I love wigs! I have worn them out and about before, to clubs, to class, to the store. It just depended on my mood. It was a lot of fun. I have been thinking about buying one and wearing it again. My husband just thinks it's funny.
7I've never worn one, but I'm not apposed to it at all. I think they seem fun, I feel hair is like fashion and should be changed constantly. I think wig wearing would be fun.
8If I could get a wig that looked like the Allure one, heck yeah!!
9I'd love to try some wigs that look realistic
10I don't think so.
11Only for a costume party or on Halloween.
Wow, remember when Britney did look like that??
Sheesh, those days are long gone for her!
12I think wearing a wig once in a while could be fun (as long as it looked real)!
13i would totally wear a wig.. if i could make it look good! but i love to change my hair.. so what better way.. this way no damage!
14I like that Vegas commercials where the girls go into the bathroom at a club and switch wigs... then walk out.....
that's how I'll do it!
15Only on 2 occasions---1) an event that requires me to wear a costume , 2) when I am bald
16I think it will be fun to wear a wig. No more bad hair days! lol
17I would wear one if it looked real. I think it would be fun to be able to change your hair dramatically for the evening or a special occasion.
18Yup but I can't afford one THAT nice.
19I would definately wear a wig! I get bored with my hair and don't like using more chemicals that I have to or doing drastic cuts. Wigs are a great option to change your look without the permanency. I am actually looking for a wig that I can sport right now! They also have half wigs where half your hair is out and you belnd it with the wig hair - I have one and you can't even tell.
20Speaking of Photoshopping.... http://www.iwanexstudio.com/ this site makes me happy. If you go to "portfolio" and put your cursor over the picture, it shows you the "before" picture.
21I guess I should add that it has some celebrities on there.. not this particular magazine cover. :/
22no wig 4 me
23yup. if it's good enough for tyra, oprah and beyonce, it's good enough for me!! now all i need is a $6000 lace wig fund, and i'll be ALL set!!
24I would definitely like to try wearing a wig! I've always wanted to try going blonde, but I've been too nervous to dye my whole head that way--After all, what if it looks bad? (plus, dyeing ruins your hair after...)
But wigs are expensive, and well, as much fun as they can be, I don't think that you really need one. Why wear fake, synthetic fibers on your head when you can style your own gorgeous, /natural/ hair?
ALSO, Britney Spears killed wigs for me.
25Never worn a wig except in theater.
She's nutso and I can't imagine how much photoshopping it took to make her look like that.
Last year a teacher and some of the little girls in my daughter's elementary school all grew and cut their hair to donate to Locks of Love.... I was SHOCKED to see how expensive wigs (especially good child sized ones) are.
26This wig on the cover does NOT look natural at all to me.
I wouldn't wear a wig just for fun personally
27I don't even own a wig so I want to say No. However, never say never... who knows maybe someday i'll want to go incognito or something and try it for fun.
28Wigs seem too uncomfortable for me to wear them except with a costume. Having said that, I do wear costumes pretty frequently when going out at night and it would be nice to have a couple of high-quality wigs in different colors. I've gone window shopping for wigs a number of times but so far haven't been satisfied with the quality of anything I can afford.
29I always wanted to try a nice quality human hair wig. I've been blonde for my whole life, i would be red-haired for a couple of hours
30hmmm...wigs get my attention.
i would try 1..but a nice
longer version cuz i hav medium..soon 2 b short hair..sooo yea i think it would b cool 2 see me wit long nice hair.
and of course the color black...cuz tats the color of my hair. idk i think its interesting.
..... ANOTHER COOL THING BOUT WIGS..THAT I JUST THOUGHT OF...its
PERFECT 4 BAD HAIR DAYS!! having a bad hair day just put on the wig 2 hide the bad hair.
but then i guess u can go 4 extensions instead of the wig...idk...as i always say..WATEVER FLOATS UR ASS!
31ooo and yea brit look good ter..at frst i didint kno it was her..but i kno its retouched 4 sure!!
32I remember wearing my aunt's wigs when I was 10 or 11 ... and I hated it ... it itched and bugged the crap out of me. I can't really even wear hats nowadays, so I think I'd have to say no.
And at least she's wearing something decent on her head instead of those stupid locks glued into some sort of hat or headband. =P
33Only if my hair fell out, or for a costume, or if I was on the lam. Too hot and uncomfortable.
34I probably wouldn't wear a wig unless I had a medical condition that required me to.
35I have only worn them for plays. I am not opposed to it, my grandma has worn one for as long as I can remember. I think it would be fun for a night out just to try something new.
36of course the wig would look fab on her now, too bad it doen't look like that everytime she wears one! bleah!
37Maybe..but it would have to be high quality and look good!
38WOW THEY MADE HER LOOK GOOD
39I heard that the cover was barely photoshopped, though... I kinda wish she really could look this good.
40If it were a great quality wig and I had just shaved my head bald in a psychotic meltdown I would wear it. Otherwise they make my head itch and that bothers me.
41Not digging Brit on the cover of allure. She doesn't deserve it at all. She's probably wearing 10lbs of makeup and there was a lot of photoshopping on top of that.
42I don't think that I would ever wear a wig. Obviously everyone would know it's a wig when you have different hair everyday. My hair is pretty nice when I do something with it.
I think it would be fun to wear a wig for colours that normally dyeing would kill the hair for. Apart from that, if I ever decided to get a short hair style and really wanted a long one the next day. Never ever tried one before though, so I am not sure how comfortable or not it would feel.
43They definitely cleaned this shot up a lot. It barely looks like her. Meanwhile, I would wear a wig if it didn't feel uncomfrtable and it looked natural on me. I think it would be fun to have a whole new head of hair for a night.
44As someone who had to (well not had to, but opted to) wear a wig for a few years due to alopecia areata, I think wearing a wig is a pain in the butt. I attached my wig to my head with velcro (sticky-tape velcro on my head, other part sewn onto the cap of the wig), and it would still shift around sometimes, especially when it was hot and I got sweaty. I am so glad that my alopecia regressed and I have my hair back. I will say that many people were surprised when I told them that I wore a wig; I had mine hand-made for me, and it was EXPENSIVE.
45All that being said, I think it would be fun to wear a wig as part of a costume... as long as I have to option to go without.
i OWN ONE AND YES ON BAD HAIR DAYS I DO, IT LOOKS NATURAL
46When I was a sophmore in college, I donated my hair to a charity that provides wigs for pediatric cancer patients. It was one of the best, most rewarding experiences I have ever participated in, and i would definitely do it again.
P.S. I wore a wig for like, the first month or two until I grew out of the Chimpanzee-phase, then I had a cute pixie-cut!
47I was actually just thinking about this...
48I recently chopped off all my hair because it wasn't healthy from all the coloring, blow drying, ect. I would totally wear one because I really miss my long hair (unfort my hubby won't let me buy one because he thinks it's weird). As long as it didn't look fake, I say go for it! Plus it would be awesome for cutting down time getting around in the morning!
