I love browsing Japanese fashion and beauty magazines like Cutie and Non-No for inspiration. Even though I'm functionally illiterate in Japanese, it's fun to look at the various hairstyles and makeup. Among the trends I'm spotting is something you might wear already: mussed-up hair. The look is a little different from bedhead or the unwashed look, mostly because hair still looks clean and somewhat styled. I think it's a cute weekend look, since it doesn't seem calculated at all. Since a lot of style trends start in Japan, it's likely only a matter of time until it migrates to the States. Would you do your hair like this?

lol, I've been doing my hair like that for years. Does that mean I'm a trendsetter? Sweet!
I'm a "natural" woman. Like shiny hair, rosy cheeks and smelling fresh and sweet. My husband likes me that way.
I don't think I can pull of a "messy" hair look. I think I would look tired and sleepy
Heck yeah...my hair cooperates best when it's textured and a little messy. I'm wearing something fairly close to the one magazine pic right now, as a matter of fact. Look at me be cutting edge!
I'm absolutely in LOVCE with that type of hair, it's SO japanese and SO cute
I love the Non-no magazine! JJ is another great Japanese magazine that shows trends for young women. I definitely saw this trend when I was in Japan recently. I don't think my fine longer hair would look great like this tho. But it looks great on the women that can pull it off! ^_^*
i feel like if i put product in my hair....it just gets all greasy and nasty. that messed up hair look doesnt look greasy at all =) duno if my hair could pull it off
I love messy hair!
I've had messy hair for years, just because I hate taking time to style my hair...maybe now I'll finally be trendy with it!
EGG is another awesome Japanese fashion magazines if you get a chance to check it out. It's definitely geared to trendy young women (as you can tell from the clothes they feature, which are great), but they have HUGE sections on makeup and hair techniques. It's my favorite part! =D esp the hair techniques...always new and interesting and VERY pretty styles.
HA! My hair looks like that all the time! But only because I'm just too dang tired in the morning. I put most of my efforts into a decent outfit and simple makeup. Some pomade, mousse or hairspray and I'm out the door.
Thank God! Because my hair is always a mess!! haha. My boyfriend says it's sexy, cool.
Whoa, I'm in style without even trying. Sweet!
I think it does look calculated, though... There are some Japanese people with wavy hair, but for the most part the default is straight and black, and so the perception of what "styled hair" looks like is different than in other countries. Straight hairstyles that look "sleek and polished" elsewhere can feel a little lazy here, because it's nothing more than what many people have when they roll out of bed. In contrast, a mussed hairdo like this is conspicuously styled, especially with that expensive-looking non-brassy brown color. She had to use 3 different products to get this look so nobody is going to mistake it for bed head.
where does one find these magazines? are they on-line?
I would never be able to pull that look off. I'm one of those people who looks a whole lot better after a bath-and-blowdry.
Great, this is perfect for those mornings when I oversleep and don't feel like blowing it out.
That is my hair, but curly! I have messy imperfect hair all the time, but it works for my personality and style.
i love the look
I think most girls look really good with messy hair.
I'e tried to put my hair like this a lot of times, but I just can't, it always ends up all sticky. I'm terrible with hair products
love the cutelook, but in Tokyo LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of people have this hairstyle, its a trend...just like fashion, hairstyle is a huge thing in Japan...so I'm thinking it will go out of trend soon when the new season hits.
Lol I've been doing this for YEARS.
I'm awesome x]
first of all, japanese fashion mags are CRACK to me. i bought about fifteen when i was over there two years ago, and they are still fun to look at. and they predicted the unfortunate arrival of leggings and bubble skirts well before they reached the states.
and bed head is what it's all about, baby! i just discovered the joy of dry shampoo on mornings when i'm running late in rhw morning. leave it to the japanese to totally perfect the look...
I love the messy hair look.. if only I knew how to do it properly... I always make it end up looking like the hair of the bird lady =/
i love messy hair! i dont like it when mine is straight. check out cancam magazine. that ones my fav!
Ok I am always behind the time in style. I always wore the messy hair too. This summer though I started straighting my hair and started really liking it straight. Now I have to go back to the messy hair? I just can't keep up with what's in and what's out.
Ever since I cut my hair, the messy look has been my choice of hairstyle on most days. Yay messy hair!
Love it. ANd yes, I love Non-no as well, even though I don't read any japenese either.
I love Cutie and Non-no. Even though I can only read hiragana and like 10 kanji (chinese characters), I still love looking at them. Sushi-cat is my number one source for J-magscans.
I just hope some of what I see at Style Arena, a site for Japanese street fashion snapshots which is updated weekly, doesn't come true here in the states.
As for the messy hair, I tried it a week or two ago when I saw those scans posted. It didn't work so well because my ends are split. I looked like a big frizzy monster. I'm in dire need of a haircut.
my hair is always like that haha.. messy sexy, i even use the special japanese wax to create the look
