I used it on really awful chigger bites once. I learned to things that day. 1. Clear nail polish and its uses know no bounds. 2. When going to a garden party at a New Orleans plantation and wearing a sundress, wear bug spray.

CarolineK already said what I was going to-- clear polish works on chiggers. I've never heard anything on ringworm though. Since that's a fungal infection I'm kind of doubtful that nail polish has any affect.

First thing I learned when I started to wear pantyhose : Clear nail polish is your friend. Actually, when I was student and perpetually broke, I even learn that when you're talking of a small snag at a not to visible place, don't throw the pantyhose again, just wash it (with the nail polish) and it's still wearable ... I saved some bucks only with that tip.

If you paint your costume jewellery with clear varnish it won't turn your skin green. I first did this 5 years ago to a silver-coloured necklace - still wear it!

OK clear nail polish also works on jewelry. If you buy the cheap stuff that could turn your skin green just slick on a coat of clear nail polish & you will never get to the green skin stage.

Also for runs in pantyhose try hairspray. Its not as good as clear nail polish but if does the trick. Just spray a little on area of the run/snag & you are good to go.

well tights, pantyhose, whatever. i learned the trick back when i was a ballerina- i still use it! i also used my clear nail polish to smooth out a rough surface on the zipper of my boot that kept catching. i just put a glob of clear polish over it and it helped. never tried it on skin though lol

You can put a dab on the screws of your glasses/sunglasses to keep them from coming out.

I have this pair of BCBG Max Azria shoes... they are leather with a crocheted trim... well I noticed the yarn on the crochet trim was fraying so I simply placed a little clear polish on the fray and my $400 shoes are still looking brand new!! YAy!

Ringworm is fungal, but the polish might keep it from spreading until you can get proper medication.

Yup, started working as a lawyer this year and even though i keep a few new pairs of pantyhose in my office drawer, i don't always get the time to change into them. the clear nail polish thing doesn't always look great (if you look closely), but it definitely stops the run or tear from getting bigger, which is a plus. having said that, when it comes to pantyhose, clear nail polich still can't preserve them for too long; maybe fab can post something about a good brand of pantyhose that isn't too costly or is the most 'enduring' (without being ugly!).
To lilmisssmartypants: i HATE wearing pantyhose, but if you work day-to-day in a super conservative office environment, you can't not, unfortunately. no matter how smooth and tanned your bare legs are, there are still clients or other lawyers/bankers that will be prejudiced against your clients if you turn up without pantyhose. sad, huh? =(

i love pantyhose. they feel old fashioned and glamorous. I rarely wear them anymore, but I have about a thousand pairs. And my mom taught me that trick too.
downside: when you get older and a little more plump, your thighs rub together and you get swish swish swish.

I was told about this as soon as I started wearing tights when I was young. I am still just as prone to snags and tears. I still wear nylons to special occasions when I am wearing formal dresses. I just feel to I don't know, underdressed without them although now I go with the sexier, thigh high option. VS has great ones! p.S: When I was in a more office enviornment at work, we were required to wear some form of nylons under pants even if we were going without socks- I still have a bag full of nasty granny knee highs from that reason alone.

Clear Nailpolish doesnt kill chiggers, contrary to popular belief they do not burrow into the skin.
The larvae actually crawl on you, INJECT a powerful enzyme onto your skin that digests cellular contest and they eat that. nasty isnt it? the Red mark that itches is the spot they buffet on. The clear nailpolish will help with the itching because of the alchol content.

I was going to say what someone else already did about hairspray. I sometimes work in wardrobe backstage and someone's always reaching for the Aqua Net to stop a run. (That's who still wears pantyhose - performers! I see that a ballerina already chimed in..)
Also, as far as preventing runs, snags, etc. in the first place, make sure to take off any rings or wrist jewelry before putting on or taking off hose (see Amy Sedaris' book I Like You for detailed instructions on putting on pantyhose - and, um, do as she says, not as she does in the pictures!). I've even learned to leave my rings off while in dance class, as I've gotten many a snag that way.

I will have to agree on the nail polish trick. I wear pantyhose daily and I use it quite frequently to stop snags from getting worse or to keeps small runners from spreading. I haven't tried the hairspray trick but I just don't see how it would work as well as the nail polish.

I recently gave my neighbor clear nail polish to use on his dog, got the tick right off. Was crazy to watch.

I personally haven't tried it but parents have commented on how good clear nailpolish is on ringworm and also bleach, but thats a more severe removal system you apply it to skin and of course it burns it off and your skin....looks like sunburn
