Although this week's Bella Donna is a striking beauty with high-cheekbones, Katharine Hepburn was not an enormous trendsetter during her heyday. Unlike many of her Hollywood contemporaries, she refused to bleach her hair and don elaborate makeup; instead, she preferred a more natural, even tomboyish appearance. She had little love for the demands of fame, and her fierce independent streak—plus a string of failed movies in the '30s—earned her the title of "box office poison."
So why is she a Bella Donna? Well, after a string of film successes such as The Philadelphia Story and Bringing Up Baby, she was well on her way to becoming one of cinema's most respected actresses. Now, decades after her height of fame and only a few years after her death, it's easy to see that her attitude and her appearance were far ahead of their time. "Plain women know more about men than beautiful ones do," she once said. Her contemporaries may have thought she was the former, but history places her among the screen's great beauties. she is definitely the epitome of simplistic beauty.
I've always looked to her for inspiration. She is such a gorgeous icon yet you always feel like somehow who can relate to her. Great choice for Bella Donna!
love the quote
she is so gorgeous
She is all of that.
I always admire her and her name "Grace" lives up to her legenc
I adore Katharine. The Philadelphia Story, The Rainmaker, The African Queen, and On Golden Pond are some of my favorites. I just watched her as Jo in Little Women earlier today. She cracks me up! I've always been a little bit tomboy, so I appreciate that she made it fashionable.
I always think of her as a strong, glamorous woman with so much class. This first thing I think of is her wearing slacks rather than skirts and dresses before it was trendy. She didn't fit the typical Hollywood Siren mold- and that was just fine!
i agree with sofi - classy, strong, glamorous are words that come to mind when i think of Katherine Hepburn. And she has aged really beautifully, too. An actress in Hollywood with that much integrity? What a lovely role model for the young'uns of today =)
She's a classic beauty. Her strong will and intelligence set her apart from her contemporaries and I think she's wonderful!!
oh she's so great! love her - i love that she wore "masculine" clothing.
Oh I just realize that I made a bad. It's not Grace Kelly...I was thinking of Grace Kelly whom I admire the most. Hahahaha...PARDON MY BAD!
I love her! I just finished reading a book about her and Spencer Tracy and I even posted a quiz on here about them! I've been tivoing all her movies and I'm so excited!
she's so classy. i feel like most of the starlets during her time were so much classier than that of the starlets today. i know that there are still classy stars now but none of them compare to the ones from an earlier age
I'd love to be picked for a flower I'm named for. thanks.

i always thought that she was beautiful. she made some great movies.
She's one of my alltime favorite beauty icons ... she had the most incredible features, with cheekbones that could cut glass. Such a stunning, handsome woman.
oh i love her!! great choice bella. she was a trendsetter in a my book, a feisty and talented one too.
Nice write up Bella. A fab Bella for sure!
katharine was definitely a woman ahead of her time. i've appreciated her timeless beauty and classic style. she often gets overlooked by her famous niece (i think?) Audrey, but Katharine's legacy is one of poise and confidence. even if her contemporaries didn't find her beautiful, she was comfortable and confident enough to continue her own style.
she is my idol!
I love her style and Desk Set is one of my favorie movies
she was a icon of beauty and class
I'm embarrassed to say that I hardly know anything about her, especially since my mom decided on my name because Katherine Hepburn was her favorite actress! She is very pretty though.
I had never heard of her until I watched Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. She is an amazing actress. I couldn't believe what I was missing.
I know who she is, I know she's a legend, yet...well, I've just never rented one of her films. But I admire your choice for her as a Bella Donna.
One of my absolute favorites! She was a perfect Eleanor of Aquataine (another ferone of mine) in Lion in Winter, and the perfect foil to the Mighty O'Toole! Plus she's gorgeous and goofy in Bringing up Baby!
