Judging by the name, you might expect 5th Avenue Bath Co. to hail from Manhattan's tony Upper East Side. Instead, the bath- and body-product company comes from suburban Columbus. I've been using its Exfoliating Body Polish with Shea Butter ($17.95) for about a month.
First, the good: I love the scent, Black Vetiver Cafe. 5th Avenue Bath Co. describes it as "a woody and ambery blend with a hint of citrus followed by notes of red cedar, sandalwood and musks." My nose isn't sophisticated enough to parse these notes, but lemme tell you, it has the "expensive and fancy, but natural" thing going on. Another plus is that because of the shea butter, coconut oil and jojoba oil, this scrub leaves a soft protective, moisturizing barrier on skin well after the shower. If you have dry skin, this stuff is a lifesaver!

The only thing that I don't love about this polish is that it's really not a heavy-duty exfoliant. While I can feel the sugar crystals on my skin, they're not dense enough to give a large-scale sloughing. I like using this stuff right now, when my skin isn't flaky and overly dry—but during the winter months, I'll need a more serious scrub.

Ooh... I think I'd like this. I don't like to exfoliate TOO much because I have sensitive skin, but it also gets really dry so it can be tricky. I get a good amount of gentle exfoliation through dry brushing though... so I think the little crystals in this would be good for me, just enough to polish off the extra dead skin the dry brush didn't get..
I think I'll have to try this when my salt scrub runs out.
1Thank you for the great review!
2Thank you for reviewing exfoliants, please post when you find one that works good - I am on the same hunt!
3I have been using the 5th Ave. Bath products for years and love them! I have extremely sensitive skin and these are wonderful products! I really like the scrubs, they are gentle enough to not irritate skin, but also do a great job of exfoliating! I highly recommend the 5th Ave. products!
4I read the review and ordered MANY of their products. I bought the SCRUB SAMPLER, the MOISTURIZER SAMPLER, the SOAP SLIVERS, and the SAMPLER PACK. I was so pleased when I received everything! 5th Avenue Bath Co. makes GREAT products. The two scrubs I tried which were 'rough' - exfoliantly speaking - were their COFFEE SCRUB and TOOTSIE TUNE UP! I literally loved every second of it. I then used a body balm (which I got as a free sample -- WOW)on my knees, ankles, FEET, and elbows. With the tootsie tune up and the body balm, I didn't even need to use a foot file! THAT IS HUGE in my book. The moisturizer sampler was fabulous. I loved all the moisturizers, but my fav was the HAND & BODY CREAM! It was thick and rick and yummmy, AND it glided right on my skin (and into my skin), and it wasn't greasy at all!! I got bunches of other goodies in the sampler pack; my favorite was the pillow and linen spray. WOW WOW WOW! I got stress relief, and it helped me to relax and fall right asleep! I am a bath junkie, and this company definitely has a new customer! I highly recommend trying them out as well!
