If you go to the mall, chances are you've seen Glamour Shots. The photo studio seems to have toned down the cheese factor in the last few years—a glance at its website reveals no sign of feathered boas or cuddly-wuddly teddy bears. That's progress! Tell me, have you ever been a "model" at Glamour Shots?

I've had three experiences at Glamour Shots, actually. The first was pretty good. So, not bad enough that I went back a second time.
The second time was the best. I actually ended up with some of my favorite pictures - the pictures look like ME and the makeup isn't overdone nor is the hair Texas-sized or anything crazy. I loved it.
The third time, we went there for our engagement pictures and they pretty much botched 'em. My makeup was dreadful. It didn't help that I was exhausted the night before; but, call me paranoid, I'm now almost convinced that whatever the powder it is they put under your eyes to 'reflect' lights actually makes your circles look darker so that you will purchase their ridiculously priced Glamour Touch service.
I have but I was like 11.
NO!! Eveyone who did that in my elementary school was a loser and would get ripped on to no end.
I havn't but I wouldn't mind doing it.
i loved it when i went...but i was also 11.
not sure i'd go anywhere near a glamour shots now.
I thought that Glamour Shots went out of business a long time ago. Talk about a blast from the past!!
And no, I wouldn't get my picture taken there. To me Glamour Shots is synonymou with explosion bangs and tons of airbrushing.
I did, only because I somehow won a contest to get free Glamour Shots. I was in my early 20's.
I made them do my hair and makeup like I usually do it - no big hair, no glitter, etc. I insisted upon wearing my own clothes, because I wanted nice, NORMAL photos that I could give to my mother and grandparents.
Well, I looked okay, but the girl who took the photos made me do all these stupid poses. Even when I BEGGED her to let me just sit there, she wouldn't. And the only photo where I didn't have a stupid pose had a stupid backdrop of a city skyline.
looks so cheesyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
but i have done asian ones ^^ lol
Glamour Shots still exists? I really wanted to go when I was about 12, but way over that now.
No but has anyone noticed that realtors must do it? Every realtor I've dealt with hands you a photo business card and you look up and you swear someone else is standing there!
nope.
My 2 girls entered one of their contests and we got 9 wallet sized for 9 bucks, and theirs turned out very nice. They did try to weasle more $$$$ from me but I was just very firm. I myself would like to go do a set for my hubby for an anneversary present. Something to hand down through the family someday. I do not know if it will be glamour shots, or just a nice photo, but I would not mind trying something.
Glam Sugar — yes! In Chicago there is a running joke about this. There's an agent named Chaz Walters, who promoted his business by running billboards with his hunky picture and the phrase HOT PROPERTY. Hilarious. Well, the years went by and Chaz aged, but his picture still stayed youthful. I think because of all the ribbing, he finally got some new photos done. Hot property!
I went 16 years ago right after I had my first baby. Although I wouldn't go now, it really was nice to feel pretty and to know there was some hope after being pregnant and just having a baby!
No i never have......
i've been twice, once when i was little and was pretty much just like the details described with tons of makeup and feather boas.
the most recent was for engagement pictures. first off, i didn't like the way they did my hair at all, and i didn't like the way they angled some of the pictures and i ended up looking fat (i'm not!). then thier first quote for the picture packages was like $5000. my husband almost got up and walked out, he was mad! we ended up paying like $500 and i still don't really love them. blah.
I went in 1988. Back when it was new - and since I was a FL girl the big hair with the feather boa was sooooo in. LOL
I might go with a fiance or something, but I wouldn't go with just me. I'd feel kind of weird having a bunch of wallet-sized mes to pass out to friends, lol.
Never even heard of it!
My mom took me when I was 11 or 12, and going through my "awkward phase", to try to help me feel better about my looks. I guess it worked at the time, I felt beautiful for the night. I bet if I could find the pictures now, I would laugh so hard at the big hair, way overdone make-up, and feather boas.
I was 16 and my mom forced me to go (but it was actually kind of fun and the camera guy was cute).
I went when I was in college. Loved the pics then; now I think they're cheesy. But I'd love to get new (uncheesy) ones!
Hello this was so cool when I was 13 years old. Everyone went. I went and it was fun.
Someone got me a package for a gift one year. It was embarassing but als fun. But they made me wear a gols lame jacket! ewww. I have no idea where the pictures are today.
*gold lame
LOL, that's hilarious Bella!
*sigh* in my defense, it was the early 90's and my Mom had a coupon. One of the pics actually came out really nice and very natural. The others were a BAD SCENE.
Hot in junior high but I never gave in myself. I thought it was so cheesey and then everyone passed around these photos that didn't even look like themselves!
Why do realtors always have pictures of themselves on their business cards? I always thought that was so bizarre. Hi, it's me!
i think for chinese girls it's almost a right of passage to go to taiwan/china when they're in their late teens/early 20s and take these AMAZING glam shots. they've got hair and makeup artists waiting on you hand and foot and the packages are extremely cheap compared to what you'd get in the states.
most people do glam shots and then go back for bridal pics ^.^ (they're so awesome with airbrushing too hahaha)
to cindee_rella; quite a few of my friends have gone to china nad taken these GORGEOUS pictures and i've always been pretty jealous. i'd love to see myself all glammed up.
My cousin got some done many years ago and they looked horrible! That's really what turned me off the whole idea, but I actually don't think I've ever seen a Glamour Shots studio.
i actually just walked by a glamour shots in the mall the other day (i thought they'd gone out of business, too) and there were pictures of babies all glammed up in the windows! it was weird!
Yes, I've gone and I liked it... I was also probably like 10 years old.
No and I never would.
My aunt treated me to a birthday gift of glamour shots when I was turning 14. I dunno it was awhile back, say 1993...anyways it was of course located at the mall and I remember going in and the "hair/makeup artist" looked lke she just started Barbizon...but I remember her hairspraying my hair back and making me up like a trashier version of a pageant gal. Then they gave me a black tube top and I had to try on bizarre clothes that I hated but my aunt loved. So I still have the pictures of me with a denim studded jacket and flower hat posing against the wall. You know, the classic Glamour Shot pose. Anyways it was a cheesy experience but I appreciated my aunt taking me and thinking I was such a pretty girl for a day. It was sweetl Would I do it again? uhm no.
It reminds me of Napolean Dynamite. Wasn't there a reference about that from the chick that was selling things out of her caboodles?
I was 16 and getting a re-do of my horrid school pictures. The guy doing my make-up was a drag queen who showed pictures to my mom and me. The old man taking the pictures had a lazy eye that made him look like he was leering at me the whole time. But it was the BEST!
Galpal - you took the words right out of my mouth! Napoleon Dynamite! I am from Oklahoma though, so Glamour Shots is right up my alley! I can actually say though that i have never had those done before. The two malls that are near my house have the stores, actually one is a store and one is more of a kiosk, but still... I'm hoping that now that we are getting more trendy stores like White House/Black Market we will get rid of old stuff like Glamour Shots! Yikes.
I went for my 11th birthday, and they did my makeup really well...made me look nice but not JonBenet Ramsey. My mother and I were very happy w ith the pictures. However, this was the early '90s in the South, so there were a lot of sequins and denim jackets involved.
Yeah - once again I didn't think they still existed. I never went - I always though teh pics looked foolish and cheesy!
I didn't even know those stores were still open! I thought they closed shop years back. lol If the clothes and makeup are better then I might try it. You could get some good pics out of it too.
I think the couple glamour shots always looks silly
look*
No, way. In the 90's some of my friends kept popping up with Glamour shots and hanging them around the house. They are soo cheesy. Too much makeup, crappy Barbara Striendsand lighting and Romance novel poses. No thanks.
I did it back in 91, and good god are they hilarious to look at now! I think everyone should do them once...and just hand them out like you are serious about them, maybe for christmas framed....see what people say!
i never did but always wanted to
I'm torn because i hate to have my picture taken but I'd like to see how they'd turn out.
I alway's wondered with those pics and make-overs in general how they would see me and what have I wasted 48 years on I could have done better?
