Hear the phrase "purple eye shadow" and people either clap with glee or hide in fear. While the color isn't for, uh, shrinking violets, it isn't the brash '80s nightmare you might be afraid of. A light, dusky lavender can be used for a soft smoky eye—or you can go bolder with a deep purple. I like this Tarte eye shadow in The It Girl ($17) because it's soft and easy to blend.

Violet/purples are my favorite color of eyeshadow!
1I like violet shadows they bring out the green in my eyes. I am a bit traumatized by it though because in the early 90's I was tempted by a free makeover at the mall, she put on tonnes of purple eyeshadow, purple hued blush and purple lipstick! It looked horrific. I am very pale and am a red-head.
2I LOVE purple/violet eyeshadows! They bring out the gold flecks in my brown eyes, and it's a fun way to use a vibrant color without looking like a psycho.
