Yesterday, Yum came to me with a dilemma. She had her brows waxed over the weekend, and much to her dismay, was left with reddish bumps as a result. She had done nothing different than usual, taken any medications out of the ordinary, or even gone to a new waxing lady, but still ended up with itchy, irritated skin. To find out my tips on helping Yum get her brows back to normal, just keep reading.
- If there's an infection: If you feel that the bumps are bad enough, head to a doctor. However, witch hazel, an antiseptic cream like Neosporin, or a natural remedy of tea tree oil, could help heal a minor infection.
- Take the sting out: Simply applying ice to the affected area can help cool it off. A dab of aloe gel will help hydrate and take the sting out, and lavender oil is another an effective and natural way to ease irritation.
- Anti-inflammatory: Cut the redness and itch out with a dab of cortisone cream. It's as easy as that.
- Post-wax products: There are lots of products available to help soothe angry skin post-waxing, like Tweezerman's After Tweeze Soothing Cream ($12) and the ever-popular Tend Skin ($17 to $50).
- For the next time: Let your waxer know about your post-waxing bumps. Perhaps the wax was too hot for you, or you simply need a different formula, such as wax formulated for sensitive skin. Also, be sure to check out my three tips to help you prep your brows before your next hair removal appointment, and you'll be good to go.

Urgh, I get those bumps all the time! Even when I tweeze my own. I think I just have a particularly sensitive eye area.
1I know this is weird, and I get my eyebrows waxed all the time, and I never get those bumps, which I am thinkful for, maybe I just have tough evebrow skin, but I do get them other places, lol, so I guess that makes up for it.
2I make a point of doing the Proactiv face mask after waxing (it reminds me to do it on a semiregular schedule, if nothing else), and it seems to soothe all the irritation away. YMMV of course
3BellaSugar, I think you should do a story on threading eyebrows! I just heard about it for the first time less than a month ago and I love it!! I was amazed that this technique had existed for so long and somehow I had never heard of it. Everyone deserves to know there's another option than waxing and tweezing!
4I agree with Torance, i prefer eyebrow threading myself. The results are so much cleaner and more precise. It's harder to find if you're not in a big city though, but its worth looking. Love it!
5I've been to this place a million times, and know the owners, so it was the first time that it happened! I'm going to need to inquire about whether they've used new waxes...
6My brows did the same thing 3 days before my wedding. I had decided to it myself instead of going to my regula salon for my eyebrow waxing. Oh well, guess i learnt the hard way.
7Neosporin on the eye area -- not sure about that one...
