Characteristics often associated with gamine women include pixie hairstyles, short, straight-across bangs, bobbed hairstyles, wide eyes, petite features, boyish qualities, and a bit of what you might call a certain je ne sais quoi. When I was about 19 - I rocked this look - a la Rosemary's Baby. I would love to go back to this - it's so simple and easy. My hubby think it's too boyish and just does not appreciate this the way I do!
1I'm not sure how Halle Berry or Ciara fit into this definition of gamine, short haircuts notwithstanding. Those women are far more overtly feminine and sexy to be considered gamines. If you wanted to feature more black women Left Eye (Lisa Lopes) from TLC and Jada Pinkett-Smith would have been better choices.
And did I miss it or was Kristen Stewart mistakenly left off this list?

I don't know about Ciara & Halle either. There's more to the label of gamine than just short hair. I think Agyness Deyn as an edgier gamine would have been a good choice to have. And to anyone who's looking at these and wants to chop it off, go for it! It took me years of contemplating a super short 'do until one day I just took a deep breath and took the plunge. That was 2 years ago and I've been rocking the short hair ever since. And what the hell, it'll grow back if you don't like it
