In June, I bought a new bronzer and some other really fun, brightly colored makeup. It was the beginning of summer, so I had a little bit of a base tan, and all season, I've gotten tons of compliments on my fresh-faced, glowy look! However, I've been working indoors a lot the past month and my tan has now substantially faded.
Last night I went to dinner with a bunch of gal pals and proceeded to meet a group of young, single men. Everything was going well until one of the cuties told me that I had some dirt on my jawline. As I feverishly wiped it away with my white cocktail napkin, we both looked down to find a smattering of way too-dark foundation. It was really humiliating, and now I feel like I've wasted so much money on makeup that doesn't even flatter my fair fall skin.
Simple Solution: Mix in a little bit of pale foundation to the bottle to lighten the color. And as far as powders and color choices go, blend the powder using a big fluffy brush or sponge and use the colors with a gentle touch and you should be fine. Don't worry, it's not a total waste!

that is a great tip I never thought of before. I hate buying expensive foundation becausemy skin tone changes all the time and then it ends up looking too light or too dark, so this is the perfect solution!
1Great tip! Do you recommend that the same brand of foundation be mixed in? Or could I mix in a different type of foundation?
2just put a dab of dark and a dab of light foundation on the back of your hand and mix and apply to cheeks to see if the ratio is right. If needs adjustment just add more of witch ever shade is needed.
3i actually have separate bins in the fridge for makeup. Summer makeup (darker) and winter makeup (lighter). All the different moisturizing lotions go in the bins too (less in summer, more in winter). For combo skin, it's crazy! The only thing I have to remember is to throw out things older than one season or are not safe to keep longer than one season.
Mixing powders really works too!
4You can also mix the darker foundation or bronzer with a little illuminating moisturizer to create a glow from within look. If you don't have fancy moisturizer you can use your trusty standby and add some powdered shimmer (I like bare minerals eyeshadows for thiss) in a white color or even offwhite--like a super lite peachy or pinky hue. This all helps to attenuate the dark factor of the wrong color foundation/bronzer. And remember: blend, blend, blend.
