I've created my own lip balm, sunblock, and solid perfume over the years, but I have yet to venture into the world of DIY makeup. Recently, however, a friend who paints using her own pigments decided to turn her colors into eye shadows and lipstick, and the results were fabulous on her (almost anything would be, though). I started to think about all the pigments and mediums out there, and I wondered how many of you have experimented with creating your own cosmetics. So how about it? Have you ever converted something into makeup?

While it seems a creative and perhaps economical alternative to ready-made products, my only concern would be the level of safety and quality one encounters when mixing their own cosmetics. Do be sure to check ad analyze any chemicals you put on your skin. Other than that, happy concocting!
1I have actually done this. Well, I have helped do this. A friend of mine is a chemist, and one day I tagged along to see the process and what not. I forgot what my "job was, but it was enough to say I helped!
2Well does pressing pigment count? It's kinda fun.
3I've mixed nailpolish colors before to make new ones.... so... other?
4No but I wouldn't mind trying one day!
5I haven't made makeup, but I have made lip balm from a Martha Stewart kit that I bought for my daughter.
6I voted yes because I just remembered when I made lip balms out of a kit with my friend when we were like 14 lol I think you could choose the colours and the flavours/scents.
7Nope. Closest I've gotten is mixing sunscreen into my moisturizer because I didn't want to pay double for SPF face cream.
8Not unless the make your own lipgloss kit I got for christmas when i was 10 counts.
9Nope, but I have mixed nail polishes if that counts!
10Tips on making your own make-ups would be cool
I wouldn't even know where to start, but would love to try it. Tips on how to make you own make-up would make a great story, so if anyone knows how I am all ears and eyes.
11Since starting to make my own body lotions and face masks, I would love to learn how to do make my own make-up.
12Additionally, after the "ingredients to avoid in your lip-balm" post you did, then also the news a couple of weeks ago about those Peruvian people arrested on suspicion of killing people for human fat which is then used in cosmetics!!! AND then one of the Girls in the Beauty Dept at Glamour mag posted on Monday about finding out that one of her fave face creams had a "secret ingredient originally derived in a European lab using proteins from the skin of a human fetus that was aborted, reportedly out of medical necessity."
Bella, could you PLEASE run a post on this issue, it scares the bejeezus out of me to think that human anything could be in beauty products
I'm made awesome shades of lipstick by melting 2 or 3 shades together. Does this count? I've also mixed my fav moisturizer with a liquid cheek stain to make a much more blendable cream blush.
13I remember people in high school making their own hair color out of kool aid
14mixing finger nail polish
15I have a very fond memory of making orange blossom perfume with my grandmother. It didn't keep very long however, haha.
16I'd love to learn. I'd be scared to have a reaction but I guess you could always do a patch test early.
