People with blond hair are called blondes. The same goes for brown-haired beauties, who are known as brunettes. If you have red hair, you're known as a redhead — whether it's copper, auburn, strawberry, or colored with reddish-violet undertones. Easy.
But when it comes to those with raven locks, why isn't there an official name designated for those with the darkest strands? Is it simply that black-haired is, in actuality, the most appropriate description? If you could give those with the darkest hair their own alias, what would it be? Ravenettes? Inkhairs? Blackheads? Nah, none sound quite right. Whether it's for virgin hair or it's dyed black, what's the best description you can conjure up?

Haha- ravenette was my first thought too.
I don't know!
Ravenettes makes me think of blondes because of Sharin Foo from the Raveonettes
I have black hair. I call myself "Raven-Tressed"...lol
Bella, you're psychic! I was on Wikipedia this morning trying to find a name for black-haired people. Strange that there isn't a name, it's the most common hair colour in the world.
Ravens or raven-haired is fine with me.
According to the Counting Crows, "Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation with a black-haired flamenco dancer," so I'll stick with that.
I always wondered this. And when shopping for color-specific products there is NEVER any products for black hair.
Usually they get lumped in with brunettes. What about people with gray hair?
I thought there was... a Raven-haired beauty.
there is one. English just never took it from French like with brunette. It's schatenne or something like that (I'm don't know French, so can't spell), other European languages use this word.
Châtain is light brown/dark blonde, I don't know of a French term for black hair (but I'm an English speaking Canadian so there very well could be one). There are Noiraud (black-brown) and Aile de Corbeau (blue-black) but none I've heard for plain black hair.
weffie, aile de corbeau means "raven-wing". So sort of along the lines of raven-tressed in English. Noirette? Maybe? Kind of in the same vein as brunette? It seems like back in the day, brunette meant darkest brown and black hair, and brownette meant lighter brown hair... see http://jezebel.com/5041399/max-factor-the-man-behind-the-makeup , the second ad, for the lipsticks based on hair color.
I'm with Retrodoll -- I thought the term was raven-haired.
As far as gray-haired, I think the term is silver-haired.
I think it's sad there isn't a name when it's the most common hair color in the world. I like Ravens.....It fits and most people would get what you are talking about without starting a whole new word.
This is a tough question...how about Ebony's, hmmm maybe not, haha (This issue definitly needs to be solved though) =)
I have black hair and I've always wondered this too. I always just lump them in the brunette category.
I thought it was Raven-haired.
I think raven totally fits. But I wish there was a name. I also saw myself as a brunette even though I have "black" hair.
Raven-haired or Ravens.
Definitely not blackheads. That just sounds gross.
I always thought it was raven-haired. I have noticed that they don't usually feature products for raven hair and just assume brunette products can be used by them.
I always assumed it was raven-haired but almost nobody uses it. Maybe it's because a lot of people with black hair (at least of those I know) are always convinced they have either reddish or brunette undertones so they consider themselves to be brunettes.
for greys i've heard silver fox (particularly for dame helen mirren..love her!)
noirette sounds badass. i approve.
Schwarzkopf lol
It's possible that there isn't a name for people with black hair because true black rarely exists (I'm an art major). It always leans to warm or cool. I have what most people would call black hair, but I consider it brown because of the red undertones.
Ravenette sounds nice!
It's already been commented, but I also thought it was raven-haired. Geez, tons of my family has naturally black hair and I've been dying my hair black for years and I never even thought about it haha. I think noirette sounds awesome too!
Ooh, yes- noirette. That sounds right, along the lines of "brunette." Let's make that a thing
I was thinking about this a couple days ago. Nothing really sounds right. We need to come up with one though.
I would love to be called Nero-Noir Haired (Very classy in Italian and French)
I have very very dark hair that most people would describe as black, and it certainly does look black in most lighting. But in direct sunlight you can see that it's actually super dark brown. I think this is the case with most people with "black" hair. I usually consider myself a brunette and have tried brunette hair products... but I have often thought we should have our own category/name. I quite like raven/ravenette
Raven-haired still isn't a name like brunette or blonde. Noirette sounds the best.
I thought raven-haired was already a nickname for those with dark tresses. Noirette sounds really nice too.
• allegra 120mg towards the slave building as they fired. I don't know where their shots went but I
Is it just me who thinks noirette sounds like a tampon?
I've always hated being lumped in with the brunettes. People with hair JUST off blonde call themselves brunette and that isn't me, I'm princess raven-waves!
