We all know that eBay is a great place to score deals — even if you do have to watch out for counterfeit makeup from time to time. In France, however, the auction giant has had its wrist slapped for having a free-for-all market. A Paris court has fined the auction giant 1.7 million euro for allowing the sale of certain perfumes. Luxury group LVMH, which owns brands such as Dior, Givenchy, and Marc Jacobs, argued that easy availability cheapens their exclusivity.
In the United States, those brands continue to be sold on the auction site. I've never purchased perfume on eBay, but a friend who collects vintage scents thinks it's the best resource out there. What about you — have you bought fragrance on the auction site, or do you prefer to go through more official routes?

I haven't bought, but I have sold high end perfume on Ebay and let me tell you, it's a pain! Ebay has a lot of regulations in place for sellers when you have designer items for sale. I had an authentic Chanel perfume I was trying to sell for a few months before I was even able to get my listing live on their site.
1I know you hate this perfume, but you know the Gwen Stefani perfumes that come in dolls? Well I love the "G" one, it's amazing. So instead of paying a whopping fifty dollars for one ounce of perfume: I bought the tester that has three ounces for thirty six bucks.
2I bought Alexander McQueen's MyQueen perfume back in 2007, I absolutely loved it but couldn't afford it for it's retail price, being a job seeker at the time, it was my Christmas gift to myself, and probably the one that made me happy the most!
3No
4Not on ebay but on another auction site. They're so much cheaper online than in retail stores.
5Yes. I've purchased a few perfumes on ebay in the past.
The only real problem is that I'm interested in older fragrances and I'm always worried that they will have gone bad or are in the process of doing so.
6Not yet, but I have been looking into it lately and probably will for Christmas.
7I have probably purchased over 20 perfumes online with ebay, only once was I duped, seller claimed it was a legit bottle of Chanel Mademoiselle, it most definitely was NOT, lol.
I refuse to pay high end prices for perfume, if it weren't for ebay, I would stick to bath & body works!
8you have to be extremely careful with this... because it has a huge risk of being counterfeit...or expired. the absolute 100% way to trust your getting the correct fragrance is to get it from a store--department store, sephora.
9I have made many purchases on ebay for 8 years now and it has always worked out fine for me. in terms of perfume, I absolutely love a perfume that has been obsolete for many years now called lou lou. the only place I can find it is on ebay..
10Hmpf tell me about that stupid law - even though I live in the UK, my French laptop won't let me look at any cosmetics on Ebay. If anyone knows a way around this one...
11I ALWAYS go to a perfumery or a counter to buy mine. I'm allergic to a LOT of perfume and have to test it before I buy, even if I'm buying the same scent (in case It's gone bad). I'm the same with makeup. I don't mind paying extra if it means I'm rash free.
12I never have but I would make sure you could return items if they were bad or counterfeit.
