One morning before work I decided to cut my own bangs. I thought that a harmless little trim (that would save me a $125 salon visit) intended to get the wisps out of my eyes would be no big deal. Instead, it turned into a big ol' mess.
As I was trying to create perfect symmetry, I found myself continuing to cut a piece here and a piece there and before I knew it, my bangs now originated in the middle of the crown of my head. What had I done — my flirty wisps had turned into chunky bangs!

There's a reason why hair dressers tell you to never cut your own hair. I had uneven and ridiculously thick bangs that were going to take eons to grow out. Not only did I wind up having to buck up the $125 for a professional visit, but I had to endure a full day at work with my mistake —that's the last time I'll ever get scissor happy!

hahaha been there done that...although my bangs didnt turn out badly...but a few months ago i thought i could highlite my hair myself too...turned out FLOURESCENT YELLOW!! It was AWFUL! I had to cough up the $120 to get it fixed after 3 PAINFUL DAYS of going to work with FLOURESCENT YELLOW hair because my hairdresser didn't have an open appointment! Talk about awful!
1I did the bangs thing when I was about 13..big big mistake! i wet my hair, pulled it down and when i cut it my bangs went to the top of my head..
the other mistake i did was dye my hair my first year of college..I was using Clariol Hydrience..and it was a color like Medium Golden Brown..big mistake when I dyed it the 2nd time..my hair was orange!!! blah!!
2About five or six years ago I thought it'd be a good idea to dye my dyed dark red hair back to blonde myself, which is my natural color. It turned orange after several bleach jobs in one day, and then I dyed it back to red after giving up, only trying again days later. I finally got it to a "decent" color for a few weeks and then got the idea to do black steaks in it myself. I had totally fried off my hair and my past shoulder length hair was cut into a pixie. I wore a hat for several weeks afterwards.
I wish I had just let it grow out my natural gold blonde after it was all cut off, but I'm addicted to changing my hair color! Luckily now I know my the limits of my hair now and the world of deep conditioners...
3A few years ago, I didn't want to pay $80 for a haircut, (what can I say, I am a broke college student) so I decided to cut some bangs in myself. Well, they were really uneven, so I kept cutting trying to even them up, and they ended up about an inch long. It took me months to grow them out, and I'll never come near my hair with scissors again!
4Actually, there's a way to do it that I've tried time and time again, always with good results.
You should do it after you wash your hair. You take the hair you want to cut and make a little lock, just all in one piece, then twirl the lock of hair a few times. Always cut an inch or two BELOW the mark you want your bangs to be. The lock of hair is small and you should cut the hair all in one go. I use a big pair of scissors.
Your bangs end up really straight and when your hair dries you can see the result. I always do it that way and it always works. I don't have bangs now, but it does work.
I hope that made sense.
5sigh* been there done that
6also a friend of mine tried to create red streaks on my hair- ended up with ugly, bright yellow streaks- you should have seen my hairdresser's face when I entered the salon haha
I cut my own bangs when I was little... It didn't end very well.
In my defense I was only six, and my sister was very convincing.
7I didn't do it myself, but an inept salon worker who was trying to take my light brown hair to a light, highlighted blond ended up turning it orange- we're talking orange soda colored, BRIGHT orange- with white highlights. I was horrified!
8I always dye my own hair, and when it's long or I've got bangs, I trim it, too. The only problem I've ever had was a couple of months ago, when I got distracted and left some colour in my hair too long while I was bleaching it, and turned the front blue. Didn't want to bother with the salon, so I fixed it myself, and 20 minutes later my hair was how I'd originally meant it to be. I wouldn't suggest the same thing to anyone else though... I seem to have a knack for this stuff. I've been dying my hair since I was 12, and that was my only oops so far, despite going from black to blonde to brown to pink and back to blonde many times over...
9Oh my gosh, I've had so many hair eff ups! Hiding under a hat, creative hair clips strategically placed. But now, after one Sunday morning, I mastered the self-cutting thing by chopping off 6 inches of my hair and turning it into the Sienna bob. I still cut my own hair but do so very cautiously and very slowly so as not to cut more off than anticipated. I havent visited a salon in over 4 years!
10Hahaha oh my god!
11My sister did that once - it didn't turn out too good.
I know when I had bangs though I would trim them myself though and they always looked fine and dandy!
i've had quite a number of cut-my-own-hair-eff-ups too! hahhahaa
12hahaha is it so bad! should've posted a picture there!
13've done it... got lucky, mine were ok. Ended up keeping them for about a year. The secret is to cut the hair while it's wet, but remember, hair becomes shorter as it dries, so give an extra inch. You can always trim it later.
14I did that, well my friend did
15She convinced me that she was able to cut my hair, next thing you know my long hair is well gone, not all of it of course but she cut out too much bangs.
I have thick blunt bangs and I hate it! I wish hair could grow faster though mine does but
I don't know how long I'm stuck like this.
I went to my hairdresser and he straightened the cut and cut some of my hair as well
so it looks better.
Thank God.
How long did it take for yours to grow out?
Last year my friends and I made a video for youtube. It was a remake of Rihanna's Disturbia. I decided it would be cool to cut my own bangs to get that scary edgy look. It was scary alright. My hair is really thick, and I combed it from the back and chopped it off. EEEEW. For a while I couldnt do anything so I let it grow and now I'm going to get it done professionally which is always a smart choice!!!
16When I was like two I took my younger sister in the bathroom and took the sicsors with and cut off her only curl....boy was my mom pissed...and now i want to be a hair stylist when i grow up haha
