The presidential election is still a year away, but as everyone knows, the candidates have been campaigning for months. In South Carolina, campaign volunteers are chatting up clients at beauty salons. Some salon owners present DVDs, pamphlets and other campaign materials to their customers. Sound odd? Not necessarily. African American women make up approximately 29 percent of voters in South Carolina, and candidates are hungry for their votes. The Washington Post reports:
One place Clinton and her main opponent, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, think they can reach them is at the hairdresser's. "Girl, that's where we like to spend our time. If I could, I'd be in a beauty salon now," Clinton's state director, Kelly Adams, said with a laugh. "Seriously, we have to go where the voters are."
The idea is that because salons provide a social atmosphere, politics will eventually come up. Regardless of your political viewpoints, do you think this is a good strategy? Or would you prefer to have your beauty destinations stay politically neutral?

I hate propaganda shoved down your throut politics!
1I hate when anything is shoved down my throut. But seriously they have to go where the voters are.
Isn't that hilarious? I heard the Clinton's state director, Kelly Adams say that first part like all young and hip and ghetto, like Girl! And then revert to a business-only demeanor. Seriously...
PS This was all in my head. But funny nonetheless.
2You're too funny, Terry18. I can totally hear it that way too!
3Living in SC, I think this is a pathetic choice of gathering political votes. I compare it to a party-affliated bus gathering black voters to arrive at the "party's" voting place, after being brainwashed on their trip. It's sick, and it's saying to the black voters in SC, you're the most easily persuaded, and we're here to do it.
4soooo tacky! i would never hand that stuff out!
5It's sad but effective I would assume... I would def want to keep my salon neutral.
6Ew, I wouldn't want either in my salon if I am getting anything done. Terryt18, I read the comment the same way.
