Are you ready to begin your holiday shopping? One thing is for sure — mass retailers are. I have been keeping my eyes and ears open lately in hopes of hearing buzz about the latest and greatest products new to the market for the many someone specials on my holiday 2007 shopping list; however, it looks like I may stand alone.
According to a recent article, The National Retail Federation is predicting an all time low in sales since 2002. Due to the weak housing market, consumers are forced to cut back on holiday spending. Lucky for me I am an anal retentive planner who has learned to save for a rainy day. Have you ever put yourself on a savings plan a few months before the holidays?
If you are trying to save on gifts this year, keep your eye out for beauty related marketing tricks and ploys such as:
- Resist the allure of celebrities, especially the vast amount of celebrity fragrances available and set to launch. Beware of all the glossy posters that are set to appear everywhere this season.
- Just when you think you've walked off of the cosmetics floor scot free, products may appear again in holiday packaged gift sets in another department. Beauty products appear to cost less in sets, however, this is not always the case.
- While additional staff is recruited to facilitate lines and crowds, they are also there to aggressively push sales. Don't let their powers of persistence sway you.

If you have a bunch of girlfriends, try doing a Secret Santa! That way, you only have to buy a gift for one person, and you could even make a fun party out of it!
1I've already purchased some gifts for others and myself!
2I'm starting this weekend actually.
3I plan on starting ASAP.
4i have been planning on what im buying people and made a budget but have not yet purchased anything.. i should get on it tho! cuz before i know it i will be like holy crap! i have no time to shoP!
5I have definatly been looking out for things! Right now, I'm just looking for sales things or if I see somethign that is really calling someone's name then I'll buy it!
6But I have been trying to stay out of malls for the past few weeks (I'm a shopaholic) but tomorrow I hope to find at leats ONE present!
I like to start before the holidays, because if you plan between Thanksgiving and December, the frustration can spoil the fun out of experiencing the holidays.
7I don't like to start thinking about the holidays until after Halloween.. but I don't have as many gifts to get as most others do!
8OHGODNO not ready!
9I like to be finished by Thanksgiving..less stress this way. This can be a challenge because lots of stores don't have all the merchandise in before Thanksgiving. I'm making stuff this year. I found a cool new website at www.graphita.com and I can play around with photos and add cool captions and objects for free. Then I can print it and buy a frame. Makes a wonderful gift and easy to do!
10i am going to Europe this Dec, plus I will my year end big bonus then, so i am all set for FALL festive shopping! i cant wait!!!
11my xmas club money was just entered into my bank acct but I need it for food, rent & bills! aah. But i do a secret santa with my sisters so not that many presents!
12I've already started... I like to buy a little at a time that way I have alot for everyone.
13ummm..i think pre thanksgiving..
but I get sucked in with the holiday packaging as well..like for MAC arent they coming out with a holiday set of cosmetics..
14I stockpile presents all year long (Xmas, birthday and hostess gifts), so I can take advantage of sales and the like. However, this means that I must keep a running list of what I've bought and for whom, to avoid multiple presents and/or repeats. My husband thought it was hilarious the first time he saw me coming home with Xmas presents in May, but now he loves the idea because there is no last-minute running around before parties.
15I'm done! I got personalized gifts for everyone on my list at disneyshopping.com, and I used the discount codes to save even more, plus get free shipping. They have some really great deals at the disney outlet, and the personalized throws, ornaments, and warm-wear sets will be used for years.
