Pretty Penélope Cruz just got a bang-up haircut from Beverly Hills stylist Chris McMillan. The in-demand guru is the man behind most of Jennifer Aniston's "Friends" cuts, and he's also snipped the hair of Courteney Cox and Rebecca Romijn. Word on the street is that Penélope is loyal to Chris—and frankly, if my hair wound up looking like hers all the time, I'd stick with him, too.
Unfortunately, I recently moved thousands of miles away from my favorite stylist. Now I'm searching for a new one, going from one salon to the next until I find the right fit. Do you do this, too? Or, like Penélope, do you tend to find one stylist and stay?

I live in Philadelphia, and my old stylist cut my hair for over five years. I was bummed when she let me know she was moving out to Cali with her husband b/c he got relocated for his job. God bless her- she actually came back for one weekend every few weeks for her east coast clients. She was the best (sigh). After a year or so, it must've not been worth her while b/c she stopped traveling back and forth. I've since found another stylist that was recommended to me by a close friend.
1I stay with my stylist till she mucks up my hair. Then I'm very passive agressive about breaking up ... I just stop coming and try to avoid the salon. Childish, yes, but effective.
2I stayed with my stylist till he did muck up my hair...but instead of leaving the salon, I switched to another stylist in the same salon. Now, each time I go there, I get to give the dagger eyes across the room. So fun!!
and my new styist has been great now for three years.
3Having to find a new stylist is one of the worst parts about moving! We moved a little over a year ago, and it took me several months before I found someone who did my hair the way I wanted. I tend to give someone one chance, and if they mess it up, I move on...that's not very forgiving, but oh, well...I've been with my stylist for about a year now and she's awesome!
4I've been screwed too many times... I cut my own hair. I actually get a ton of compliments on it too! Bizarre. I'm especially good at layering my hair.
YAY ME!! I save so much money too!! I wanna get my cosmetology license. P.S. I SPENT $300 at
sephora in the past 2 weeks!!!!
5I stuck with the same stylist for three years - and three salons. She understood my hair, I looked fabulous... but when she sent me a postcard to let me know she'd moved to yet another salon, I had to think twice about being loyal.
I can understand leaving a salon for a place that'll offer you a better percentage, or with lower chair fees, or with a better clientele - but 4 salons in three years? That's a little much.
So I stayed with the salon I adored (which made me think of a funky little place I went to when I was bad in my hometown) and haven't regretted it at all - they were extremely helpful in finding me the right stylist from the other stylists there.
6i jumped til i found my current girl and now i'm sticking with her cause she does a great job! she even moved salons a good 45 minutes from me but she's worth the trip!
7I stick with one.
8I have changed stylists, but only because of moving around. I really miss my stylist in Atlanta though. It was that perfect connection where he understood what I wanted even when I couldn't explain it perfectly. Plus he always spent more time styling my hair than he really needed to or spent on other clients. I always told him that if I ever made it rich, I would make him my personal stylist on call.
9I stuck with the same stylist for at least five years (maybe more) until she started giving me consistently worse and worse haircuts. They were never BAD bad, but the quality just kept going down...so I switched to a new girl, and she's SO great!
10I had a wonderful stylist back in 2005 however I moved like 30min from the place however I was still going to get my hair done there until I found out she left. :^( I've tried other stylists however no one seems to get me like she did; so I might go back to the same salon and see if one of the other stylists there will be just as talented. I like my recent hair color/cut however it's just not the same. Maybe I'm just being super picky however I can be like that, lol.
11I don't have a stylist.
Well, unless I count my old roommate!
12I've never been to a salon...
I spent a great amount of time jumping from one to another because I could never find "the one" who could cut my thick but fine ultra straight hair so it had body. Then I lucked out and found a stylist who has magic in her scissors. I get tons of compliments on my hair now for the first time in my life. She's awesome!!! So now I stick with one stylist. She's been cutting my hair for the past three years.
13of course, only if the stylist is good! ive been through a few different stylists in the short course of my lifetime. i was dedicated to one in my lower/middle/high school years, but then she moved away - and the person who took over her clients gave me this little wormlike tail in the back of my head. it took 2 years to grow out! then i went to a new place, with a stylist i loved. unfortunately, the salon was in the world trade center. so we all know how that turned out.
14i then switched to a place closer to my house - where everybody is trained the same way, so while i usually used the same person, if i had to use somebody else, it didnt matter -- they all use the same techniques so the hair comes out the same way.
that became incovienent because of work, so i switched to another salon in soho...and now i am dedicated to my stylist jesse. he gives me the best hair cuts i have EVER EVER EVER gotten.
if you live in the ny area and need a fabulous haircut - contact me and ill give you his info. and he costs under $100 for a haircut...which sadly is hard to find nowadays.
Hihowareya--Never been to a salon!?! Hopefully you've at least had a pedicure!
IMJessica-- Totally same thing happened to me. Turns out the girl that was cutting my hair was addicted to meth. I found out she got busted after I quit her.
15I have 3 hairstyles that I use. My cousin but she lives back home, one of the mom's from my mom's group and this women from Gene Juarez. Everyone is pregnant right now, so I am actually going to try a new person tomorrow. I am a little nervous. For years I would only let my cousin do it but then I went to college and it was hard to get back home. That's when I started traveling 50 miles to go to GJ. So much has changed - since I had my son, it was hard to get up there for a hair cut lucky for me the mom from my mom's group has a salon in her home. The boys can play while I get my hair cut. Since she is taking a break until the baby is born I am forced to try someone new.
16I stick with my stylist!!! She's also my mom and I don't know WHAT I'll do when she retires. I went thru some years where I was jumping around from stylist to stylist only to wind up in Mom's chair crying for her to fix it. I finally learned my lesson and stuck with her, she's the only one that knows my hair and how to work with it.
When she retires I imagine I'll be jumpy jumpy again until (if ever) I find someone even close to as good as her!
17Shana's my girl!! I don't stray!
18I used to color my hair all the time, crazy and different colors every few wks-not anymore but when I did I stuck with my stylist till she had me leaving less than satisfied.
19I stick with one, just one...I have trust issues!!!
20I'm loyal to two stylists. One is a guy that has been doing my hair like forever. He was my very first stylist and now he's my friend too. Then he moved to LA and I was heartbroken and had to switch to a girl who I had to get used to but grew to love. Then my guy came back from LA. He said that life wasn't for him but he ended up coming to the new salon that I had been going to. The thing is they each have their high points so I go to my girl for straight sleek looks and then I go to my guy for cuts and color. We're like a happy family!
21my mothers original profession was a hairdresser so she does the back layers for me and i do the front how i like it...i went to a salon once to see how itd be and she totally sucked and messed up my hair, i asked for long side swept bangs and i got short poofy normal bangs, so now i stick to what i always did
22SHE LOOKS GREAT!!!!
23I stick with one. The last time that I had to have someone else was when there was a mixup at the salon- i was booked in to get my hair done with her on a day she wasn't working! Since I was travelling overseas the next day, I had to get another hairdresser to do it, and she hacked my hair! It was horrible! So yeah, I like to stick with one that I know won't mess it up.
24i stick to one stylist, my brother's best friend, he can do magic to my hair and it not an easy thing to do.
25every time i move i have to start the search over for the perfect stylist who understands both my hair texture and my personal style. before moving to atlanta, i had a girl i had been with in cincinnati for 3 years. i even tried to book an appt with her on a trip home because my search here had been fruitless thus far, but she had moved away, which did induce some tears of frustration, i'm not ashamed to admit.
after 3 years of searching, i FINALLY found my perfect stylist here, and now i'll only book with him.
26I only stick with my one and only Georgio!
27there has been times where i have tried a different stylist... but i never come out as happy as i do when the one that i always go back to!! soo in the end i have just decided to stick with her!! she is amazing!
281love, I am so jealous! I can't cut hair worth beans, particularly not my own!
I have found the most fabulous stylist though, I have followed her for 11 years and through 3 salon changes! She has hair a lot like mine, so no matter what I ask for she has a good idea of how to make it happen! Love her!
29I LOVE my stylist (I've been with her for 3 years - and about a zillion hairstyle changes), but I'm moving in a few days!
I change stylists when I move, until I find one that I like.
30I stayed with one stylist for years until I was ready to make a big change (chopping off my hair), and, after a few months with short hair, I wanted to try something (and somebody) new. I really, really adore my new stylist and I've gotten tons of compliments on my hair. I've also done some hair modeling, too, so I've gotten great inexpensive highlights/dyeing. (The haircut I got hair modeling, however, sent me running back to my stylist going, "Fix it!")
31I used to jump around to different stylists & salons, but I found a master stylist who's awesome & cuts hair for a great price! So I will stick with her.
32I used to work at a day spa at the front desk, so I intimately got to know each stylist and their habits, strengths and weaknesses. So, depending on what kind of cut i want, I see that specific stylist that is very good at it. It's fun because I get time to catch up with everyone and I get a fab haircut no matter what

When a was younger I always had the same hairdresser as my mother, and unfortunately she jumps from hairdresser to hairdresser like anything :-S I'm older now and you would think I'd be able to choose my own hairedresser, but I find it way too embarassing to go back to the same hairdresser and have them ask 'So, how is your mum? We haven't seen her in a while...' so I always end up moving with her!
35i change depending on if i move or if someone recommends a better one
36i've been going to the same stylist for the past five years. he just opened his own salon and i have to fight to get appointments now. i don't know what i'll do if he leaves philly! probably cry.
37I was with the same stylist for five years. She gave me great haircuts, styles, prices, and colorings. I moved away so I had to find someone new but I already have someone new I plan on staying with without trying stylist after stylist. I went up to someone with an amazing haircut and style asked who they went to.
38When I was 18 or 19 I used to go to this guy by my job, his name was Kazu and he was amazing!!! I changed jobs and moved around and when I finally went back he was gone
But, about 3 years ago I went to a new salon to find a great colorist (and I did..hee) and I needed a haircut and so I just told them to give me anyone since I was new...well wouldn't ya know it Kazu worked there!!! So 12 or 13 years later I had the same guy giving me great cuts!!! LOL!!! I'm never going to anyone else
39I was very loyal until my stylist got flakey.... She did the most convincing blonde every....then she screwed it up...
40I am currently in cosmetology school and I can say that honestly the best thing you can do for your hair is to be loyal to your stylist. He or she will really get to know your hair and can know exactly what you want whenever you go in.
Personally I hardly ever have my hair cut(I do it myself) but I cannot afford to go to someone who will do a great job on my hair so I always end up getting it butchered and messed up. I'm hoping that one of the ladies in my class will prove to be a great stylist who I will work wonders on my hair.
41If you find someone that gets to know your hair, stick with them. My girl of 4 years moved to Colorado:( who moves to colorado and now i'm searching all over again. DON'T do it stick with your favorite
42It depends on if I liked the stylist or not.
43It's really bad for your hair when you let too many hands in your head.
44I have mine done every 6-7 weeks at a training college - I cant afford to get it done anywhere else !
45my mom;s good friend is a hairstylist and she has done my hair my entire life, but she's moving away in spring of 2008. I do not desperately rely on her, but I am afraid for my hair's well-being.
46Hair means too much for me to have any and everyone in my scalp. However, I do like styling other people's hair.
47I still don't have a Stylist since my move..
48But Wow, Penelope looks so Totally put together casual Chic!
Great Photo!!!
i only change hairstylists when i change zip codes...in a major way.
