Dr. Donda West, a retired English professor and the mother of Kanye West, has died from complications during a cosmetic surgery procedure. Her publicist did not reveal details about the procedure or precise cause of death. Kanye was very close to his mother, even devoting his 2005 song "Hey Mama" to her:
"Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you ... I appreciate what you allowed for me. I just want you to be proud of me."
I can't imagine how difficult this must be for the West family, as well as for the students Dr. West taught over the years. My heart goes out to all of them.

that is a damn shame, however this should be a reminder that cosmetic surgery is serious surgery and that you should go to a board certified licensed surgeon... which still won't guarantee so everything will go smoothly that much...
my condolences to the West Family
1Be strong 'Ye. And this too shall pass.
2Kanye, i know how hard it is, please stay strong.
3RIP
4How sad. Surgery is dangerous, even the most routine operations!
5My Mom has a procedure scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving. This news just freaks me out about it even more... My heartfelt condolences go out to Kanye and the entire West family.
6Such very sad news, it's all the more poignant when an elective procedure causes an untimely death.
7Wow. That's crazy. I know it happens fairly often, but still...
8My thoughts exactly, Ava.
9The local station here said that she was getting lipo on her stomach, and a breast reduction. They said the problem was that she didn't agree with the Anesthesia.
I don't listen to this man. But I've heard today that a lot of people loved him, and she will be greatly missed.
10So sad. And very scary.
I'm never getting plastic surgery!
11How sad... and to think she would still be alive if she didn't go for whatever surgery it was.
12thats f*cking horrible.
13The lady who wrote "The First Wives Club" died the same way, except she was getting her chin fixed. Heart attack from the anesthesia or something like that. Terrifying. Why people actually choose to have surgery is beyond me.
14So sad!
15That's so horriable I'm wishing him all my support.
16First of all, my condolences to Mr. West. May God give him courage to move on. If I was leary on cosmetic surgery before this makes me so sure on never doing anything!
17It's tremendously hard to lose a parent, especially if they are also your best friend. It's odd that she would die this way since she'd probably never have been able to afford (or want) plastic surgery had it not been for her son's success. The episode of Oprah where he sang that song to his mother made me cry! Now this.
18Wow, I knew that cosmetic procedures are not always safe but it's so rare to see such fatal results. I do not like Kanye but my heart still goes out to him. Hopefully this tragedy will help someone else from suffering the same fate.
19I wonder what she was having done.
Doesn't deter me from plastic surgery. People die every day from things as simple as appendectomies, plastic surgery isn't any different. Surgeries have risks.
20Oh God it's just not worth it. I'll never get cosmetic surgery, the risks and scars are not worth it. EXERCISE, EAT RIGHT, WEAR THE RIGHT CLOTHES, MOISTURIZE, & love your inner self. I swear.
21I am not a fan of K.W. but my heart goes out to him and his family. You forget how dangerous going down for surgery can be, especially when you see every other person who is someone in the public eye (or no one in the case of Heidi Montag), having plastic surgery done like it's no big deal.
22As sad as it is, what is the world coming to where people die from wanting to change their natural appearance?
23Poor Kanye.
24I dont care for Kanye as an artist mostly b/c of his publicity stunts but I really feel for him and his family right now.
25I was numb when I heard this news last night. My heart goes out to Kanye and his family. His mom was BEAUTIFUL as she was. I won't use this moment as my personal tirade for/against cosmetic surgery but we all need to learn to love where we are, right NOW today, as we were MADE. Stop tampering, tinkering, and trying to modify yourselves, by the hands of MAN. This mentality of "if you don't have it, go buy it" is outta control!
26It is very hard losing someone you love so dearly, and my heart goes out to their family. Because of the disease I have, I've had to have literally more surgeries than I can count. And these aren't little surgeries, I am talking about open heart surgery, multiple major abdominal surgeries, etc. These surgeries are required for me to keep living, and are quite painful, as surgeries are. And I cannot understand why people would volunteer for that (any type of surgery) when nothing is wrong with them. It is painful, there are major risks, and we often hear the phrase "dying to be beautiful/thin/chesty/etc.", and sadly some people do, as Mrs. West did.
27my condolences.
28God Bless.
29its so sad she died so needlessly...
30this is very sad and I have always felt very strongly against any plastic surgery procedures. I think It's rediculous for anyone to put themselves through unnessasery surgery. Id much rather have life than "big boobs" or whatever is in right now!!!
31This is very sad.
32RIP.
very SAD.
33More and more people going under knife, not even knowing how dangerous it is.
I think plastic surgery is still in "beta testintg" and there's no need to risk your life, if you do not really need this (in some cases this is necessary)
Look at http://plasticsergeant.com, there are so many examples of bad plastic surgeries and different disaters.
Poor woman...
