This two-part ponytail (also known as a stacked ponytail) will double your beauty pleasure! Not only is it a fantastic way to keep your hair off of your face and neck, it's also unconventional. In this photo, Jennifer Aniston is sporting a sort of well-hidden stacked ponytail.
You can choose to hide the lower ponytail underneath the top one like she has, or if your hair is really straight, you can make the look more obvious by separating the two tails further apart. Either way, when your hair isn't cooperating and the standard simple ponytail won't do, this is a simple way to jazz up a basic ponytail. - STEP 1: While your hair is still wet, apply a styling product for hold.
- STEP 2: Blow-dry your hair straight, then separate it into two sections: top and bottom.
- STEP 3: Brush the top section back and pull it into a ponytail. Secure it with a thin hair elastic.
- STEP 4: Repeat step 3 for the bottom ponytail. When all of your hair is secured, mist your head with a medium-hold hairspray.

Great idea to chang up your ponytail!
1Thanks!
this could help out ALOT in the morning!
2I'm sorry, but Jen's face looks plastic here!
3Wow, she looks amazing!
4i like doing this because if you make it messy like jen's, it gives the look of more volume and longer hair than a single pony tail and no one is the wiser...
5i'm kinda confused. this sounds like how i did my hair when i was in first grade. does anyone have a picture of what it is supposed to look like from the back, because what i'm picturing right now is not pretty, and you can't really tell with jen's hair.
6hahah...steph, i think you're referring to the half up/half down thing where you tie both sections together on the lower portion? That sounds like the first grade sorta thing I did with mine, and no, this is different. It's 2 ponytails, separate.. one right underneath the other, as close as possible so the top one overlaps and gives it that fuller look.
I know what you're saying though about the 80s hair.. hahah
7I instantly thought of elementary school hair too!
Hers looks nice though.
8I've styled my hair like this for a few special occasions when my hair was long. It was a great way to add some oomph to a regular ponytail & I loved how it made my hair seem longer. Dress it up with curls, like I did!
9Thanks for the explanation trace face! I thought about my third grade hair-do too.
I'm always looking for ways to make a ponytail look nicer b/c I like wearing my hair up!
10i love my ponytail, this a great idea!
11stephsharer I have to say I was with you on this one till I read trace face's explanation.
Still, I'm not sure how "fab" this would really look. Jen's hair doesn't really give a great representation.
12I think it'd be cute if you wrap a strand of hair around both to hide that its two ponys-- I might give this a try tomorrow!! It's raining all week, so it'll be ponys all week!!
13yeah, I wasn't feeling this either at first, but sugarbecky has a great idea in wrapping one strand of hair around both. interesting.....
14She looks nice, but my hair is too fine and thin to wear it like that. The double ponytail thing is weird.
15I thought of the style when you have the 2 ponies, but the top on is incorporated in the bottom one too. I also then had a flash back to when you pulled the pony tail apart and pulled it through itself. I don't get why you need 2 tails though on top of each other. I will try it though to see how my hair looks.
16I just tried it and it looks good. I have really long hair though, so mine could border a bit on 'big hair', but it does look different than just a plain pony tail. You can't see the one underneath. I think I would do it to look a bit fancier than a regular pony. Maybe with a thin sparkly head band for a festive event.
17I so want to try this out! I used to make myself three ponytails back in junior high. This I might try for a fun yet more refined look!
18I used to do this in junior high. My hair is super curly and thick so this would be a good way to make it look longer because it kinda shrinks up in a ponytail.
19cute i do this all the time
20I do it all the time, too. I have gobs of hair and this way it at least looks *intentionally* messy.
21i have long hair, and instead of two ponytails, i use a small clip and clip the ponytail up underneath to my head, right above where the ponytail starts (grab ponytail and pull straight up, clip just above the elastic to your head). it adds volume, and sort of looks like one of those cheesy fake clip-on hair pieces they sell on home shopping channel! (but better, since it's real)
22Jennifer Anniston makes a ponytail look effortless and achievable!
23Class, Class, Class!!!
What a great idea, I'm going to try when the weather gets hotter and I wear ponytails again.
24We could go one step further and do a topsy tail!
25everytime i do this, you can see my bottom ponytail...i dont know why, it just sticks through the top ponytail...
26new mum here with hair that really is annoying me by getting in the way. i think i'll try this to get my hair out of my face!
27hmm..this sounds interesting, but i don't know if it would just look really funny with straight hair.
28I tried this and it looks really nice especially if your hair is wavy
29I actually have a question, I triiied about 5 times in a row to make a stacked ponytail but either I'm totally dumb either I didnt understand well here's how I do it:
first I take my hair, split it in two equal parts, take the top part, and make a ponytail out of it, take the lower part and make another ponytail out of it BUTTTT!!!! first of all theres this huge hole in between the ponytails and you can perfectly see it's a terribly made stacked ponytail!!!
I also tried clipping them but looks bad, tried to approach those two ponytails to eachother but still lookin bad with that hole in between them!!!!
if anyone can send me step by step images or a really well explained way of makin a stacked ponytail I'd really appreciate it!!!
30kisses to all
just tried it. it looks silly. i have straight long hair and you can see the bottom ponytail poking out
31I will have to try this.. I bet it would look pretty fantastic if you ratted out the ponytail, since it seems like it looks better messy than trying to be sleek.
I do topsy tails all the time! I do double braids or french braids (one on each side) then join them in a topsy tail at the bottom with a messy bun.. The shape ends up looking sort of 40s inspired, but without all the twists and rolls..
