For those of you saucy Bella Donnas who strive for a hip beehive that stars such as Amy Winehouse are making chic again, here's an easy way to recreate this punkier and slightly messier version of the popular '50s hairstyle at home.
There's no doubt that you can use a wig, like makeup artist and hairstylist Yvette Beebe did here for Halloween. But if you want to rock a hive with your own hair in under five, you'll need:
- a styling spray
- a comb
- a set of bobby pins
- firm hold hairspray

- STEP 1: If possible, don't wash your hair the day you plan to create this style. It's helpful if hair has a little bit of natural grease in it. The first step is to divide your hair into two sections: top and bottom.
- STEP 2: Next, spritz the crown of your hair with a styling spray and then tease it underneath to create airy volume.
- STEP 3: When your hair is nice and stiff from all of the back-combing, turn the bottom part of the hair that you just back-combed and get ready to pin it in place. But here's the crucial part — before you secure it, push the hair forward so that you create some height. When you've got that beehivey look, begin securing it in pieces with as many bobby pins as necessary so that it holds.
- STEP 4: Lastly, gently comb any fly-away hairs back and mist the heck out of your entire head with a firm hold hairspray. It won't move much, but that's the point, isn't it?

1I created an Amy Winehouse 'do for Halloween this year, and instead of doing all the backcombing... I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of those cheesey fake pony tail things that *sort of* matched my hair colour and stuffed them into a matching hairnet... then i attached the lump of hair to the top of my head and covered it in my natural hair so you couldnt see it at all... it looked amazing and people said i could actually wear it out like that if i had an occaison to lol... so yeah, thats an alternative if you don't want to tease your natural hair into a knotty mess

12I don't think that is all her hair. I once used a black shoulder pad from a sweater and tucked it underneath and covered it with hair and cliped it center back with a tortoise shell barrette and wore the bottom half down. It was shoulder length at the time.It was 1993 and I wore a vintage Vera of California Op-Art Tunic shirt and black tights and heels. It was kinda Edie..

14Beehives can be fun, but I prefer the more classic 60's style smooth and chic style with a great shift mini dress, opaque tights, and fabulous boots. I'm not much for the Winehouse incarnation. It can look very chic and Jackie O if done right though. Fun fun!
