If you have a nut allergy, you're probably already careful about the foods you eat. You might also avoid foods that are processed in plants that also handle peanuts, pecans and other nuts. But have you thought about what's in your makeup bag?
A couple of readers have e-mailed me recently, sharing horror stories about having allergic reactions to creams and lotions. The culprit, of course, was nut oil. Because so many nut oils have beneficial properties—for instance, argan oil has excellent anti-inflammatory properties—they're frequently used in everything from hair oil to lip balm. Unfortunately, while they provide benefits to some people, they trigger allergies in others.
Those of you who have nut allergies probably already know to read the labels, but just in case, watch out for ingredients such as shea butter, almond oil, argan oil, and macadamia oil. Additionally, if you're giving gifts to someone who has a nut allergy, keep an eye on the ingredient list—and leave the nuts for roly-poly little squirrels.

1Yes be very careful. I wouldn't want to see anyone die from spraying on some body spray..
2Wow I never knew...
3Wow. I have a peanut allergy and I have yet to have a problem with any cosmetics or bath/body products (but peanuts are legumes, not nuts, so maybe their oil isn't good for anything but cooking). I have had to be careful with companies that use a peanut fragrance although most are synthetic and have absolutely no trace of actual peanuts.
4Bella, thank you so much for reading my email and posting this story. I'm so glad that other people are going to be informed about this now
god bless.
5never would have thought of this
6Wow! I am glad I do not have allergies! This is just another thing to look for. Good to know, I never would have thought of makeup having peanut in them.

10I am very very allergic to almonds, and have had a couple horrific experiences when estheticians used products with almond oil on my face (hello, emergency room)! I am always very careful to tell people of my allergy, but others are not always so careful. Beware!
11my roommate had severe nut allergies.
