Trim back your worries in 2008 with an all new “It” hairstyle. Next season’s must-have haircut is the short crop (aka pixie cut) and was inspired by Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick.
Up-and-coming models like Agyness Deyn (pictured) and Anja Rubik ruled the Spring 2008 runways with this chic hairdo at shows such as Dolce & Gabbana, Matthew Williamson, Proenza Schouler.
The best part is that you can simplify your style for the new year! Just blow-dry hair, then add in a little bit of hair wax and hairspray as a finishing touch.

She looks like a guy! Is it a guy?
1Never, ever! WAY too boyish!
2Back when I was really skinny, I always used to keep my hair this short. It was so trendy and SO easy to do!
3God no...
4Yes, the plaid shirt makes her look even more boyish! I was inspired from the "beauty resolutions" contest to try something new in '08 so ordered some (clip in) hair extensions. I know I will never go back to a short haircut like this. It makes me look too "cute". In my late 40s, I don't want to look cute! That said, I have the same hairstyle now as I did when I was 13! Often wear it in a long braid and that doesn't help, so seeking a change.
I say before cutting your lovely hair try a short wig and see how it goes! I would never "part" with my long hair just for the sake of fashion, but that's me!
5Actually, four years ago, I got extremely fed up with my long blonde locks and cut them to that EXACT length (if not shorter).
It was fun for the first couple of weeks, but then I got frustrated with the fact that I wasn't comfortable with myself, and I couldn't hide behind my hair anymore.
(Nevermind not really being able to wear hats, without looking bald.)
But I think that if you have the face, like Sienna Miller or Twiggy has, this cut is great on women!
Just not on me, who, at the time was a broad-looking 13 year old.
6Ew, I would NEVER do this to my hair!
7I'm afraid I won't be chopping my hair off to look like a man... it will stay nicely long!
8Hellz yeah! I can't wait to get a pixie cut after my wedding.
9I don't like that.
10Short bob hair is okey and chic but this type of haircut that is too short and too cropped to the scalp reminds me of the 80's hair fashion like of Sheena Easton and the boy bands then
11I think you have to possess unbelievable beauty and confidence to pull hair this short off.
12I have my hair cut like that now. Actually I grew it out a little longer for the winter, but when I first cut it really short this may it was about that length, and now it's still pretty close.
Anyway, my problem is that my hair is a lot thicker than a lot of the models you see with this style. So it's a fine line between chunky/piecy and poufy. That said it's still loads of fun.
Any other suggestions about how to style short hair? I'm easily bored and its hard to find styling tips other than the basic piecy look.
13i can not believe the number of women who say 'ew' or 'never!' i think that as women we need to think about why we choose to hold onto our hair as a sign of our femininity or beauty. it is interesting to know what the average person REALLY thinks about short hair. i deal with so much emotional hair at work...women who hang on to ridiculous lengths for no reason other than to keep it there. hair is for you to have fun with or to compliment you and make you look beautiful.
14but WHATEVER...so 1stharbinger i like to switch up what products i use in order to change my texture...sometimes i use surf spray for a wild beachy thing...sometimes make it real smooth and part it on the side and go more twiggy. try getting a texturizer with less hold and trying something piecey but more sleek!
ITA scissorz!!
15However, this look is really hard to rawk for some people. But I love Agyness and think it's a super cute cut.
I've always thought women look ridiculously fug with short hair. And I still do.
xoxo
16No way! Not that short. I could never pull it off anyway.
17i love it, but i am a littel afraid. one of my best friends has a pixie hair cut, and she looks like an adorable little girl. it's kind of fairy like on her, fits the pixie description, but on some girls i dont think it would. she has a girlish face and good style, and without that, it would be bad
18On some people it looks great however I will never have my hair that short; the shortest my hair will ever be is alittle past the middle if my neck. My hair either has to be just past the middle of the neck or past my shoulders. The longest I let my hair grow is just above the middle of my chest. I would never grow my hair out past the "girls" so-to-speak,lol,(it drags my face down and it's not a good look.) I like having slightly long, layered hair; I guess I feel more femine with it. Right now I'm in the process of growing out my hair to a just-pass-the-shoulders length.
19I love short hair, but when you go that short, you have to make sure you have the right type of face for it. That's pretty daring.
20Hasn't everyone been talking about this haircut since Sienna Miller was working on Factory Girl? Plus Tyra's been giving ANTM girls this chop for several cycles now (remember Cassandra and Mollie Sue?).
I chopped all my hair off last year and I love it. I get to wear all of the dangly earrings that used to tangle up in my long hair, and I've gotten a lot of compliments.
21thats agyness deyn, she is GORGEOUS! i dont think very many people can pull this off. but she does it beautifully
22No way! This one is especially bad because her brows are dark brown and her hair is orange. Horrible.
23Upon first sight, I thought that was a boy. I think it could work on someone with a more feminine face.
24I love it!!
25I love it!!
26I think those hairstyles look cute when the girl has a really girly fashion sense. Otherwise...they look like skinny boys to me.
27I had an extremely short cut for years. I loved it because it was so easy to take care of. But after awhile, I found myself missing girly hair and the opportunity to do different things with it. I think it's completely up to the individual to rock the style. Jean Seberg, Wynona Ryder and Halle Berry are 3 women who I think looked awesome and feminine and sexy with a crop do.
28I want to cut my hair that way, but I have curls and if I do I would look like a clown
29I could never pull this off...
30I think it's a cute cut on someone witht he right face and personality but I wouldn't ever do it just because i really like the way i look with long hair..the shortest ive ever gone was my chin in 7th grade haha i just love long hair so this is a no no for me
31hey it looks great on the model, but i think i'll pass.
32I had short hair for years, I even shaved it once just to try. Short hair is very comfortable and refreshing, and I think it looks so girly! Maybe not on Agyness because she looks like a man, but think of Audrey Hepburn and Jean Seberg, for example, or Halle Berry, Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder... I have it long now though, you really miss the feeling after a while.
1stharbinger I would add some small accesories, like a headband or some hairpins, they look girlie and fun.
33I've had my hair cut short like that a few times before. I tend to go in cycles where I get sick of my hair and cut it all off in a pixie and then wind up growing it out for ages.
34I just got my hair cut really short like this. It was sort of not my first choice, but due to an illness and the surgeries that followed it was necessary. I am so glad that I am setting the trend for once, usually I am jumping on the bandwagon at the last minute. Contrary to what some people are saying it doesn't make you look like a boy. Look at Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Portman, and Keira Knightley, they are all examples of the epitome of femininity.
35this cut is back again?
36yikes
i find that with short hair one doesnt need the hair to feel feminine. you use your style instead
37i think agyness can pull off short hair put it doesnt look good on this pic
38I LOVE my short hair. I have tried to grow it out, and did when I was pregnant with my first baby...but then I cut it off again. It's super easy and I always feel super feminine and pretty. However, I can understand for some people, concerning face shape, that it might not work for them. All levels of short can be pretty. I am loving this new trend of short/er hair.
39Why is everyone so damn insecure? Longer hair simply doesn't look good on everyone - I am an example. I shaved my head once, for the hell of it. It looked pretty good and was damn comfortable, and now that I have some length again, I can go for structured, angled, geometric cuts - actual innovative things, as opposed to a curtain that's just hanging there. I love short.
40Morgan - you got it dead on. People are INSECURE! If they had any personal style and/or confidence they'd actually be able to see the beauty in a short head of hair. These women hide behind their long flowing hair thinking it's what makes them beautiful, but in the end your confidence and your soul is what makes you beautiful, that's it.
41scissorz, I agree. We should examine why we feel long hair equates femininity and why we choose to keep long hair. There is more to me than my hair. I'm very much so like verily, in that I go in cycles from growing out my hair, to chopping it above chin=length. One summer, I was so fed up with being a woman and feeling like I had to conform-- so I got nearly a buzz cut. It was fun. It was soooo refreshing! Ever wonder why guys stick their heads out the window as they drive?! The wind feels AMAZING! Used so little hair product (woo hooo! Money saved!), but I let my hair grow out because it's too big of a pain to maintain-- to constantly get my hair trimmed. My hair's long right now because I call it my "courting hair." I almost loathe long hair, but the fact of the matter is, hetero men tend to prefer long hair and right now, I want me a man. Sigh. That and I'm broke. No money to get my hair cut. Ha.
42My husband started dating me BECAUSE of my short hair. Don't give up your personality to court someone who won't even like you for what you really want to do... Just saying...
43I had that cut for years - I loved it!
44I also buzzed my hair to 1/2" for a couple of years, and I loved that, too.
Lots o' hair is not what makes a woman beautiful or feminine.
my goodness... short hair really appears to be the end of the world huh? can i make wreching noises when i see long hair? or for every time i hear at the office, "oh i'd cut my hair but my bf/husband won't let me". I don't think so... it's a hair style. if a dude likes it so much let him traipse around with 5 pounds of hair on a hot day.
45i don't think i suddenly grew a dick and became a boy when i cut my long hair off. [checking] no still a girl. it's so outdated to cling to your gender identity based on long hair. keep it 'cause you like it, not because that's what women are supposed to look like.
Eww I won't be doing that to my hair ever. lol
46I had really short hair (1 or 2 inches) for a while, and absolutely loved it. Wanted a change so it's been growing for a while, once my hair got to a certain length I had to straighten it because my hair is really wavy, and I was getting very angular cuts that had to be "just so" it's now long enough to pull back into a ponytail and I'm tired of it - I felt so much more stylish with short hair, it showed off my face more too, made me look like I had nice cheekbones and all.
even my boyfriend liked my short hair - ever since I've been growing it, he keeps mentioning (not very subtley) how much he liked it short, and that he'd love it if
I'd cut it again. I'd never do anything just because he wants it, but I like it shorter myself so next haircut, it's all going. Also easier to dye (I use bright semi-permanent dyes like
Special Effects and Manic Panic that require I bleach out my hair - it's really difficult and time consuming to use these dyes on long thick hair like mine, which is why my hair is bleached
out at the moment, but not blue or pink or purple like it has been for the past couple years)
47scissorz - I do agree that some women still attach being feminine with longer hair; but I think even more so, most women don't like this particular style (and by particular, I mean the piecey, stacked top) because you have to have a certain personality or facial structure to pull it off. If someone less androgynous than this chick (Seriously, how did she come up with this name? It's harder than heck to spell correctly without looking it up, no matter how many times I have seen it in print.) was used for the picture, maybe the responses wouldn't be so negative. Plenty of women still look feminine and gorgeous with this exact cut, whether style classicly or with some attitude.
Ladies, don't forget that Agyness is popular because she is supposed to have a different look about her.
To the women out there who can pull it off - Rock on. I would love to have the versatility to be able to sport a pixie.
48scissorz, i absolutely heart your do.
i always grow my hair real long, and cut it to a short bob. for that drastic effect i guess.
this time i'm gonna go shorter than a bob.
49I would love short hair like that, but my hair is really curly and it's just easier long. But I'm always so impressed with a woman who can rock that kind of style.
