Thanks Bella, just yesterday I thought I needed to check animal testing companies.
It's a shame about Pantene and Elvive though, these are my two fav shampoos. Now I have to find a replacement!

I followed the link to the page indicating companies that do or don't do animal testing, and I have an issue. L'Oreal tests on animals, but the Body Shop doesn't - I thought L'Oreal had bought the Body Shop?

Also, does anyone know if Sephora or Avene do animal testing?

I like Bare Escentuals, and I've been making my own beauty products too. It's really fun and earthy feeling, and my skin looks AWESOME. I just woke up from a nap today and when my husband saw me, he thought I had slept in makeup because my complexion just looks that great.

Advah - if you mean Aveda then no Aveda doesn't animal test - it;s botanicals. They test on people.

However, they tend to promote their global and green awareness over their animal testing stance.

As for Sephora - do you mean their own make-up line? You'd have to find out what companies manufacture each individual product and sometimes each individual color of each product. Sephora is owned by LVMH which in itself is going to be offensive to some Sugar members.

FYI - Anita Roddick (creator/owner of TBS) sold The Body Shop for a pretty profit just like the owners of Burt's Bee. She sold her company to L'Oreal. Tah dah!

The Sephora Brand makeup is NOT tested on animals...I've inquired to the company. Aveeno DOES...if that was meant to be Aveeno not Aveda.

I blogged about Animal testing a while back...its a huge pet peeve of mine since its completely unnecessary.

PETA has a lot of info on who does, but a lot of times you can inquire to the companies themselves too.

Bella - I didn't mean to hijack the thread yesterday, but I had just found out that companies still tested. In my happy little world, they didn't do that anymore. But it struck a nerve and seems important to a lot of readers, so I guess it is a good thing I brought it up

Advah - I hope Avene doesn't as I was thinking of switching to them from La Roche Posay (L'Oreal owned). I have an email into them.

Not all companies are on the list, I called Benefit and they assured me they did not test. I also called VYX and they are cruelty free.

I"m going to Sephora tomorrow to replace some of my Lancome stuff with Urban Decay ... and other brands that don't.

The truth is, most products are tested on animals unless they explicitly state they are not. Some companies may not have labels, but that's a hot-button issue now and they'd LOVE to put it on their products if it were true. Everything from the shampoo and products in your hair, the dyes in the clothes you're wearing, and the polish on your toes. Yay for PETA (I'm a member), but just because they bring exposure doesn't make that the only company to steer clear of, and if you're going to have a cause, you might as well go all out and actually do some research on the brands you use/clothes you wear/materials that are used in your house. I just don't want anyone thinking they're saving the world by boycotting Dove.
