I predict that this will be the year of mineral makeup. The huge success of Bare Escentuals has prodded bigger cosmetics brands to launch their own mineral collections, but there are a few smaller ones worth noticing as well. I've recently discovered Mixology Makeup, a Phoenix-based brand that sells its goods on Etsy.

Mixology will appeal to the tree hugger in you: It's a vegan, organic line without synthetic dyes. Like most mineral-makeup lines, it's able to provide a natural look; unlike some others, the eye shadows are very fine and highly pigmented. They're also well priced at $8.50 each, or you can join the shadow of the month club to receive a surprise shade every four weeks.
To see some color swatches, read more.

From left to right:
Pirate is a dark-matte eggplant shade.
Trench is a twiggy, not-too-chocolatey brown.
Fray is one of my favorite colors. The brown is slightly shimmery, but not in an over-the-top Donna Summers way.
Bones is my other big favorite. Although it's described as a matte highlighter, the color isn't flat, so it still catches light. It's a good choice for using on the brow bone.
Dune is a shimmery beige with a hint of moss green.

Marc Jacobs
Milano
Steve Madden
Sounds nice...I like that it's vegan/organic.
1There is another mineral makeup etsy store that I use. Pink Quartz Minerals. Its pretty awesome and they give samples whenever you order. Check it out ladies
2Love pirate and bones...
3Ooh, looks cool. I will check it out.
4I'm there - big BE fan myself, but always up for more makeup.
5Another mineral makeup brand to check out is Mineral Glitters. I got a starter kit with full-sized pots for $20. I'll have to check out Mixology, too.
6Sounds good - I love of the month clubs - it's like a present every month
7An eyeshadow of the month club?! I NEEEEEEEEED to join that! I like Dune the best from the pics.
8Back in Sept I went to a "Ladies Night Out" at a resort in Scottsdale. There were hundreds of vendors and the young woman that sells the Mixology Makeup had a booth there. She gave me a personal consult and I am sold! Even at my age I want to make sure I have the safest product for my skin and to look fresh and clean. The greatest thing is I don't feel like I am wearing foundation and besides looking beautiful the best part is I actually "feel" beautiful! I will continue to wear mixologymakeup and I think everyone should at least give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
9P.S. I even joined the eye shadow of the month club. Her eye showdows are brilliant!
Looks awesome!
10I love Bones!! pirate and dune are my other favorites!!
11Thanks for sharing! I tried BE but it made my skin itchy and it turned orange after a while, so I will be def looking at this brand.
12Every drugstore cosmetic company is going mineral. Maybelline just released their version, with Covergirl & Revlon soon to follow. Neutrogena and Rimmel have had theirs but I think they're changing packaging and maybe formulas. And of course L'Oreal has had Penelope Cruz shilling their Bare Naturale for awhile now.
13You're right--it's becoming a mineral makeup world out there.
Covergirl = animal testing.
14Actually
15Covergirl, Maybelline, L'Oreal, AND Neutrogena = animal testing.
OMG!! I love this stuff...it's natural and light, not heavy in anyway.
This biggest thing i've noticed is that I'm breaking out less--this must be from all the organic and natural products used.
I'm anxious to try the sugar lip scrub too!
GO MIXOLOGY!!! I LOVE IT
16I really want to try some mineral makeup. Does anyone know of any good brands in the UK?
17Hi gigill!
I just wanted to let you know that we (Mixology) do ship all over the world, so you can give us a try
we love to help!
Best,
18Rae
I use JANE IREDALE makeup...it was recommended to my first by a friend and then by my Holistic health spa...I tried it and LOOOOVE IT! I can't describe how awesome this makeup is. It actually improved my skin. And if I must (gasp!) sleep in it...I dont feel totally guilty because I know it is not going to harm my skin.
I have since seen it spas all over the city and at lots of natural health stores...definitely worth checking out.
I use the pressed powder...one application in the morning and I am good till I get home (and I work 2 jobs...13 hour days). Amazing.

19It's great to see a natural based make up with reasonable prices. This definitely piques my curiosity.
20I'm a performer and I absolutely love mixology makeup. The colors have a lot of pigment which is very hard to find. I can honestly say that the eye shadows I like better than Mac and Lancome. I was surprised that a smaller company could offer up so much competition in a market filled with big namers. I was very skeptical of the coverage a mineral makeup could offer and it looks and covers better than your standard foundation powder ritual.I'm a connoisseur of makeup and I would recommend everyone giving mixology a try.
21thanks 4 the tip!
22I am a mineral make-up convert. Never again will I use liquid or cream foundation. It is the BEST!
23gigill, i buy mineral make up from www.lilylolo.co.uk, it's only available online but they do tester pots for 99p.
24I have tried a few brands of mineral makeup.
