Because beauty products aren't always cheap, I like to get the most I can out of them. When I discovered this trick, I knew I had to share it with all of you.
Urban Decay Primer Potion ($15) is one of those cult-favorite products that people run through fairly quickly. But a few value-oriented makeup addicts have figured out a way to get the most out of the product. When the wand seems to have run out of product, they use an old knife to slice open the packaging, then scoop the primer into a different container. As you can see, there's a ton of product that you wouldn't be able to reach otherwise, effectively doubling the life span of this product.
It's surprisingly easy to do. Check out this guide to doing it yourself and enjoy the "extra" product you scoop out.

Sweet! Awesome tip!
1That's insane how much some people probably waste...
They should think about redoing their packaging. But I guess if some people don't realize this tip it just brings more $$ into UD.
2haha I always cut open tubes of products to scrape out the rest--stuff like lotions and face creams! There's usually at least a week's worth of the product still in there that I can't get just by squeezing the tube.
3Agree vehemently with the poster above ... UD REALLY should do something to improve their packaging with THAT much product going to waste!! >:/
4UD Primer Potion is worth taking the time to cut open the package and get every last drop!
5I would suggest pulling out the stopper and getting as much that way before cutting the package. I think the longer you keep the package intact the longer you can keep the product from drying up. after that fails, then cut it up for sure.
6I always tend to think anything in a tube like that is wasteful because you can't get to every last drop. Good tip though
7great tip!
8I've been cutting lotion tubes, etc. in half since I was a kid to get the rest out. Normally I just slide one half inside of the other until I use all of it up.
9Wow! I knew I was wasting some, but yikes! I work SO hard to get more out as it starts to run out. I'll definitely do this when this tube starts running low.
I absolutely HATE this packaging. It's so cheasy, so inefficient, so unhygienic! I say we rally for improved packaging.
10Uh...cheesy*
11I wish you could cut mascara packaging too-- I just know there's a ton left when the wand starts to get a little dry!!
danig, you can probably transfer it to a little lip balm tub or something that closes and it won't really dry out.
12Oh my gosh!! This is awesome! I'm on my second tube of UDPP and now I'm mad at how much product I missed out on. Not anymore! Thanks so much!
13Yikes! That's a LOT of primer potion that's not being used - almost, I would say, more than gets used with the wand! I just recently caved into pressure to buy this (and discovered that it's actually magical
) so I'll definitely make sure to not let
it go to waste! Thanks for the great tip, Bella!
14What a waste in not really even cute packaging!
15Total waste. They should really reconsider their packaging. Then again, they probably know that they make more money as a result of it.
16Great idea! I love the Primer Potion and use it almost daily...thank you so much for this!
17Wow! That packaging is terrible! So this is how much was left when you couldn't get anymore out? YIKES! I usually open packages to get the last bit, too, but it's mostly because I forget to get another one and run out if I don't.
18Aww I just started using my second tube and now I feel how that I threw my first one away without cutting it. But thanks for the tip I'll definitely keep a knife handy now!
19Actually, if you just pull out the rubber stopper with tweezers, you can get most of the product out that way.
20That is insane! And to think about how much countless tubes I have raced through - all the time thinking 'dang, this stuff runs out to quick!' and I just put it on my list to buy a new tube. Not anymore!
21I knew that the packaging left some primer in there that was difficult to get to, but I didn't realize it was that much!
Thank you for the great tip!
22Oh My!! Thanks Bella!!!
23I'm sure that the companies do this purposely so that you can go back and buy more and more of the product. It's horrible how wasteful these companies can be.
With that said, I grew up doing this sort of thing all the time. My mother came from a big Chinese family and was taught how to save money for everything. Now I always squeeze out everything from the toothpaste tubes, lotions, etc. I grew up just turning the bottles upside down overnight so that all the product would be ready for the morning lol.
24holy moly!!! i love using UDPP, so this tip is super helpful. thanks bella!
25WOW! i am still on my first bottle and can barely get any out. i will def try this very soon.
26look what this woman found in her bottle:

Wow! That's a lot! That tube design SUCKS!
29Wow, that's a lot of product left - what a rip off!
30Thanks for the tip!
thanks for posting..I love this idea.
31oh MAN!! i can't wait for urban decay to re-package this sucker! i, myself like to use both UDPP & Too Faced shadow insurance to prime my eyes before eyeshadow. just depends on the look i'm going for but MAN, the current packaging for UDPP is so frustrating and i'm SURE there's many a gal out there that had thrown out their UDPP bottles without knowing how much was left. GOOD BLOG =)
32I know this post has been here for a while, but I just cut into what I thought was an empty UDPP bottle....OMFRICKINGGOD! There was so much left in there, I used mac's sample containers as the new containers for what I scooped out...notice I said containers...that's right I got two containers worth. There was a RIDICULOUS amount left. I feel so cheated by Urban Decay, as I thought back to how many "empty" PP containers I've thrown away in the past.
